They are to the people who play on them, compared to those that don't...
Meh, you got a point.
Yeah but those arent really private now are they
Neither are the servers that people make and are for some reason called "private servers".
Mine is
bo it isnt
yes it is :(
yes it is :(
I've been on his server, but he doesnt want to tell anybody.
private servers are shit the only decent one that was around but is done now was Toxic and even that was shit cause you could just buy ingame items with donor pts
`me saying the obvious`
Private servers break the licensing agreement with Blizzard, so if you want to go on one, be ready to possibly face some legal action, buddy.
FYI they dont sue individuals that just play there, they just ban the accounts on live if they have them and be done with it, only owners of servers are in a big risk zone of getting sued
But of course its nearly impossible for blizzard to know that you've played on a private server unless you confess to a gm or something.
The only thing that there at all good for is trying out a class at 80 or one shotting ToC 25.
it isnt good for tryin a class at 80 either
If you use two different clients; one for private server and one for live you are mostly safe, if you do not Blizzard can very easily check whether you have logged onto a private server with the client you are connecting to blizzard servers.

That was a nice fact you just pulled out your ass there.
Blizzard cannot tell if you have been on private server, doesnt matter about client

Yes they can genius... They used to not be able to, but starting in Lich King they changed something and can see the exact realmlist for the server you were on... Remember a little after Lich King launched like 5 "top" private servers got hit with a DMCA notice? Must have been a coincidence... Oh right, it wasn't.

If you are simply going in a private server by changing your realmlist.wtf to the servers IP, then back to the EU IP when you want to go on retail wow. There is no way blizzard find out. Your an idiot if you think they can.
And the reason why 5 private servers where sued when lich king came out, was beacuse blizzard doesnt want private servers stealing sales of there freshly made expansion, it has nothing to do with them "updateing the client" to show them private servers. If they want to see private servers they just use google lmao. Use your brain.

Blizzard can check everything in your WoW folder using Warden if they want. If you logon to a different server a folder for said account is created in the WTF folder. If you have a folder in there called Administrator it's pretty obvious isn't it? Also, config.wtf saves what server you went on last. If that's MaNGOS or something similar it's pretty obvious as well.

They are not going to check with warden, and evan if they did there is no conclusive evidence of private server so they couldnt ban
Ofcourse they can. If they have suspicion of you doing anything against the EULA they can very easily ban you. Hell, they can ban you for any reason if they want to. You are borrowing your account from Blizzard.

Theres a bigger chance of myself spontaneously combusting than getting banned for going on a private server
Do you have any proof on that? :v:

How do you think most machinama gets made?
Do hundreds of film makers get banned? In fact, have you ever heard of one getting banned?

I know how most of machinima gets made, I do it on private servers myself as well. But that's just trivial. I bet if you would send a mail to Blizzard admitting you play on a private server you'll get banned for it. Meaning you can get banned for playing on a private server.

Do me a favor, join a private server that has a ton of shit changed, like rep being removed from gear or class specific items being used by everyone... Buy or look at one of those items and then log out, change realm list or whatever and go on retail, look at the same items and you will see they still show the private server edit, but you still can't buy/use them. Why is this? Because that shit is saved in the cache, everything is. From the mobs you mouseover or target, to the tooltips you generate, everything. EVERYTHING.
They can easily use warden to look through that shit, and they find it easily. They know everything. EVERYTHING. You're an idiot if you think they can't.
