I never understood "There's an ignore feature. Don't use it". wat?
That was a typo made by the dummy who made the rules of the chat thread in the first place. I have since corrected it. It's intended to say to use it instead of the opposite.
I think a page for updates would be good
I think what the TF2 section does, just make a new thread for each update, would be appropriate. Also maybe there should be a suggestions megathread?
I guess that would just be up to the discretion of the moderator. If somebody completely ignores the content of the thread / original post and throws it off-topic with something silly and unrelated, then a short ban might be justified, but in my opinion simply not being in-the-know of Minecraft's quirks and easter eggs just isn't worth official punishment.
But wouldn't ignoring the OP completely be worth at least a 1-hour ban? For a long time all threads have that kind of stuff in highlighted bold, most times even before the banner and stuff. It's extremely annoying, really. [editline]25th February 2011[/editline] I support this, as long as it has content, like the TF2 ones. It's great to have a place to discuss the new stuff.
it would also solve the problem with people asking "whats new in the update?!?" "Im not going to read through 10 pages!"
Sticky should be a guide on how to find mods and minecraft itself and how to install it and play. Not just rules for the section, that way we won't need 500 question and help threads. Or perhaps just a separate megathread for help.
Sticky should be a guide on how to find mods and minecraft itself and how to install it and play. About video threads Threads on videos you made are Ok, anything else are to be posted in the video section or video megathread y/n [editline]25th February 2011[/editline]
Sticky should be a guide on how to find mods and minecraft itself and how to install it and play. Not just rules for the section, that way we won't need 500 question and help threads. Or perhaps just a separate megathread for help.
We could do this
We don't need 10,000 threads entitled "THIS IS HOW YOU PLAI MINECRFFFTTFTF HURR DURR"
No threads asking "Can you please Donate some money so i can get minecraft?" No threads that have anything to do with "OMG WHY HEZZY STILL NOT MOD?!" No threads outlining problems with Minecraft (Especially those saying "Can't connect to minecraft.net" I made a fucking fix thread for that) They can just ask in the Megathread here. There's most likely some more people can come up with. But hopefully this can serve as a starting point. Said this in the megathread, I still stand by my rules suggestions.
Good rules. I don't think the Hezzy one needs to be added. I they should know that this section is about Minecraft and not the "Ask us about the forums", which already exists in General Discussion.
Use the megathreads
Yes definitely. However if a user has made something really extraordinary, such as a 1:1 Colosseum then I think it deserves a separate thread.
No "LOOK GUIS, WOO, FACEPUNCH!"
I know it's annoying but as far as it is in the chat threads I'd say it's fine. There will always be new players playing the game. However of course making a thread about it would be against the rules as it easily can go into the megathreads.
* Don't ask for someone to gift you the game * Think twice before making a thread - specially a contentless one * Read and search for other threads that might fit your content before making one (technical help, videos, stuff you've built, etc.) * Don't derail too much on the Chat Thread - as in don't spread a non-Minecraft related subject for two pages without any real good reason to do so * Don't post about the following matters:

Chat Thread drama;
The Minecraft forums are terrible - we all know it
"Wow I found floating islands"
"Woo, Facepunch!" splash image.
Dungeons on the surface
Annoying users. There is an ignore list. Don't use it.
Technical problems - use the right thread
Trolls in the chat thread - report them instead
Still thinking on more
I believe that you shouldn't be making a thread at all if it's contentless. I can't really ban people for talking about annoying stuff though. But yes, report the ones that are obviously causing drama, derailing or trolling the megathread.
Wouldn't it be sensible to make a shortcut thread to Games section rules thread in this forum?
I'll just put a link in the rules thread I'll be making soon.
Oh, and no "look guys i made something" unless it actually deserves a thread
Yep. And about everyone wondering if we should have megathreads where people post their creations:
About this, a good formatted thread about something you made that you feel deserves a thread should be ok. If it sucks, just don't post in it and let it die. Which leads to posting to say something sucks is bad, and that's a normal rule all around.

Common Sense rules apply. Pointing out old or unimportant content ("Woo, Facepunch!" splash image, caves on surface, yada yada) definitely should not be a bannable offense, because what's old to all of you will inevitably be new to somebody else. Not knowing all the little quirks of your game doesn't mean they deserve a ban. Common sense is the governing factor. It doesn't seem to me that the rules in this forum need be any different from the rules in the others. Stay on topic, no flaming, don't post contentless threads, etc, etc.
Yes!
I think what the TF2 section does, just make a new thread for each update, would be appropriate. Also maybe there should be a suggestions megathread?
Yeah the rule seems to work well in the TF2 section. Each time a new update comes up someone makes a thread about it. The ones that are late are simply just locked.
http://isminecraftdown.net/ http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewforum.php?f=17&sid=6e23e946fc376ea9f7c0d22418bba118 http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=155770 If there's going to be a sticky, might as well be a plethora of helpful links on where to look for something so someone doesn't make a thread on "How Do I Build Stuff??" or "Minecraft Is Really Slow and I'm Not Providing Any Information"
Yes that's a great idea. Sorry if I haven't answered all of you, but I've definitely read them. I'll try to wrap something up and check it with the other game moderators! Edit: I'll do it once I come home, which is in a few hours.
I think we need a few megathreads stickied? Like Mods, Textures, Server Help and Minecraft Client Help. They are pretty much self explanatory. So people would check/post there instead of "OMGGG GUYZ MY SERVER LAGGGG" or "OMG BLACK SCREEEEN WAT DOOO" like they do on minecraftforums.
I agree. The mod and texture pack threads should be stickied. I don't know about the help threads though.
Don't sticky megathreads, just keep the stickies to the rules and maybe a closed resources thread. Compendium of Useful Server Guides Helpful as fuck, place that into it.
Don't make threads about Herobrine, such as 'OMG FLOATING ISLANDS HEROBRINE' or 'I THINK I SAW A NAMETAG ITS HEROBRINE' or anything similar.
I think we should make a "Technical Help" sticky Thread for Help. If not then keep all Tech questions in the Megathread. We don't even need a Megathread anymore, Just some threads.
Minecraft Client help and Server Help should be one thread imo. Also, what about a suggestions megathread?
