Gordon is 27 years old, so lets say HL2 was based in 2000. That would mean he would be born in 1973. Which is close to 1970, its just off by 3 years.
I remember reading here that since TF2, CS, Portal and therefore Half-Life are referenced in L4D and L4D2, the L4D is the realistic universe on the Valve Universe.
