Nov 1955 to April 1975 35 Battles 50 x 80 Map size
35 battles? Are you sure? I think we shouldn't have a campaign drag on for too long and have everyone get bored.
Edit: Two posts of mine got merge together some how. Silly me, just do 15 battles I guess
Problem here: You can only get airmobile formations when the US actually committed major ground forces in Vietnam. Starting in 1955 would mean we would not get to choose that. [editline]26th January 2011[/editline] Actually, length of the campaign won't matter. We'll do a vote if any of LPers feels like the campaign is getting boring and a shift would be nice.
Looks like we're going to have to bump up the start date, 1965 like hurts suggested?
Will do. This is the final screen. Does everyone think this is okay?
I'm down
Quick note: For some reason company-sized airmobile formations with integrated transports don't appear until around 1968. Do we still want to continue or shift the years a bit?

Fine with me.
Alright, here are the selections we can use for our force: For a first LP campaign, I suggest that we keep our core force limited to some sort of infantry company reinforced with tailored external assets. Discuss which formations you would like to select and command. [editline]26th January 2011[/editline] Anyways, I'm going to bed. See you all tomorrow.
I'd be okay with commanding an infantry platoon.
Let's go in with an infantry company, with two snipers and two 4.2 mortar platoons. We should have about 100 plus points left for something else. Then when we actually get air cav companies, we'll upgrade our core.
Here are the selections we can use for a foot infantry company: We have multiple choices for some of our company troops and here are the data screens for them: 432 - Rifle Squad 433 - Rifle Squad These two are the company commander's HQ squad. 341 - Mechanical Mule 806 - 106 mm recoilless rifle Jeep We probably won't be facing any tanks, but any direct fire support is good. 414 - Rifle Squad 415 - Rifle Squad 416 - Rifle Squad These guys are going to make up the bulk of the company. 71 - Bazooka Team 402 - Flamethrower 970 - M72 LAW Team Each infantry platoon has a single team of these guys. Should we go for more anti-tank firepower or infantry support weapons?
Infantry support would be better IMO. I'm not sure how well fire spreads in the game (I've only see it happen as a result of artillery bombardments, not because of flames being sprayed directly on the hex) but a flamethrower could be very useful in the jungle. I'd pick the infantry section with the sniper rifle, btw.
Looks interesting. Though I don`t understand jack shit in most of it.
Three votes for a Vietnam campaign. Any other suggestions? Two votes for a minor NATO power vs. minor Warsaw Pact nation. Four votes for the Vietnam campaign now.
Considering Vietnam is largely jungle, forests, plantations and hills, how exactly would this be a good scenario? It's really more a terrain suited to infantry battles with limited opportunities for combined arms that this game seems to focus on, especially armored units. [editline]27th January 2011[/editline] or am I wrong and the game actually does a fairly good job at simulating small unit tactics and infantry combat as well?
Its world of tanks on steroids.
Except this has nothing to do with World of Tanks other than having tanks and realism.

Hence why they included an AI tank heavy feature for people who bought the game, expecting just armor.
Well okay then. I downloaded winSPMBT, looking for some interesting scenarios, but not sure where to find them or how to install them. Did get a Rhodesia 1978 scenario.

Alright. This is our most current core force. Any changes or additions are welcome. I will now start to accept players. Any vacant slots left at the end will be controlled by me. I wouldn't recommend taking the "boring" slots like the engineers or mortarmen though. You wouldn't like posting orders for them. A. Battalion HQ: Tac Error B. Rifle Company Command Squad/Independent Rifle Squad: VACANT C. Rifle Company Fire Support Section: VACANT D. Engineer Section VACANT E. Mortar Platoon: VACANT L. M48 Close Support Tank Platoon: kamikaze470 Slots will still be open even after a battle has started. Just ask and you will receive.
Yeah put me in for F rifle platoon.
Put me for I.
It wouldn't be advisable to have the use of armoured cavalry in a area like Vietnam, but I'd like to be in command of a tank platoon if I can.
It wouldn't be advisable to have the use of armoured cavalry in a area like Vietnam, but I'd like to be in command of a tank platoon if I can.
A 5-tank (this is before some of the Army's 1970s reorganizations) close support (they have lots of HE rounds as a difference) tank platoon of M48A2 tanks costs 515 points, so I guess I can add that to the core. (I never really specified a points limit, oh well)
The slots are still open, but I'm proceeding to the next step. In Steel Panthers campaigns before each battle we receive a certain amount of "support" points to purchase extra units that we use for that battle only. What shall we spend it on?
Air support would be a must-have if we can afford it. Death from above!
Negative on that. The random change mechanic-thing has decided that we get no air strikes, for this battle anyways.
What a load of bologna. I can't think of anything else to mind except for perhaps a howitzer platoon and a forward observer.
What a load of bologna. I can't think of anything else to mind except for perhaps a howitzer platoon and a forward observer.
Heheh. With all our support points we can buy exactly 24 M110 8-inch SPHs (that's 203 mm) and a FOO. I don't think we need anything else. In real life until 1992, such artillery would have been kept at the corps level. [editline]27th January 2011[/editline] This is our first battle area. We'll most likely deploy on the west side. With the exception of the northmost victory hex cluster our objectives are basically suited for infantry. If possible we should shell the two bridges over there to prevent enemy vehicles from racing down the road. Gentlemen, make your deployment choices. If you need a further zooming-in cap then please ask.
