That's the point. Alch's terrible stat gain is offse tby just how well he could farm. If Furion had Goblin's Greed instead of Sprout, he would easily hit 1200+ GPM
So by that logic why is everyone saying Alchemist is shit? I think he's great with a good last hitter, nice BAT and really useful stun that helps a lot in teamfights.

By their logic, Lycan is sub-par and the most powerful hero in the game is Treant Protector.
Alchemist has a terrible win rate because unlucky pubs random him and don't know how to last hit, making him useless by not utilizing his absurd farming rates. I don't think I've ever seen an Alchemist win, except for when Purge played him.
people's argument for alchemist being good is always "pubs don't know how to play him!" which totally falls apart when you consider the fact that alchemist has almost never been picked in a competitive match. He requires a huge amount of work to get going and even when he starts rolling the results are unimpressive but people constantly try and argue that he's not bad for some reason. This is literally bad for the community because you are encouraging people to play shitty heroes that will cause your team to lose. [editline]12th August 2012[/editline] why do people try so hard to defend him anyway? it's not like he's even any fun to play like batrider is
honestly i didnt expect my post to fan the flames of the alchemist war. I just wanted to know if the build was feasible, not the hero himself
why do people try so hard to defend him anyway? it's not like he's even any fun to play like batrider is
I have fun with him though. Once he gets his ball rolling with a Radiance, Mjollnir, and Assault Curiass, He attacks stupid fast for good damage, and all those lightning procs are crazy. Problem is that if he keeps getting interrupted in his farm he can't really amount to much.
So by that logic why is everyone saying Alchemist is shit? I think he's great with a good last hitter, nice BAT and really useful stun that helps a lot in teamfights.
he's pretty much a glorified creep with a 4-second stun.

How high is Phantom Lancer on the hard carry scale?
He's not played in comp because he's a hyper-hard carry like Spectre and Medusa.
Didnt he used to see competitive back in dota 1? what big change made him fall off?
Didnt he used to see competitive back in dota 1? what big change made him fall off?
Various nerfs and skill changes, plus a changing meta.
Didnt he used to see competitive back in dota 1? what big change made him fall off?
Wasn't Silencer also at some point an incredibly important hero? I'm not sure WHEN, but somewhere.
Didnt he used to see competitive back in dota 1? what big change made him fall off?
i imagine the gigantic nerf to his stun would have been the cause of that, it used to be absolutely ridiculous.
I have fun with him though.
Wasn't Silencer also at some point an incredibly important hero? I'm not sure WHEN, but somewhere.
Silencer is STILL awesome hero, he just doens't fit into the current meta becuase he needs a lane dedicated to himself, and being anything more then a walking ult means he would need to steal kills which is a no-no with heroes like Morphling or Antimage on your team.
How high is Phantom Lancer on the hard carry scale?
I'd say 8 out of 10.
so your metric for 'fun' is 'farm all game then right click on people'??
this is p much every hero...
this is p much every hero...
this is p much every hard carry... FTFY When's the last time you saw a Jakiro farm all game and right click a hero?
i sure remember all those times i did nothing but right click dudes as rubick (this is actually true every time i steal empower)
i sure remember all those times i did nothing but right click dudes as rubick (this is actually true every time i steal empower)
Playing against Sven as Rubick when I have an Orchid and Sheepstick. Doing 400+ damage per hit with a int hero is fun.

Meaning the team is effectively down 1 player the whole match until he gets enough intelligence to start doing serious damage.
this is p much antimage, spectre, and medusa
Fixed. Just about every other hero in the game is at least semi-active in the midgame. (with the exception of farmed up Alch, of course) [editline]13th August 2012[/editline]
The thing about silencer is that he needs to steal a massive number of kills to become super effective. All you need to start dealing decent damage is force staff and treads. You have decent Int gain and a unusually high agi gain for a int hero.
The thing about silencer is that he needs to steal a massive number of kills to become super effective. Meaning the team is effectively down 1 player the whole match until he gets enough intelligence to start doing serious damage.
I find silencer to be a good silence totem, and nothing else. Good for shutting down low CD/ wombo-combo heroes. i.e. bristleback, skywrath, pudge, lina, etc etc. I usually don't play him carry, so I build str/ and support stuff on him.
Okay, theorycrafting time again. I'm going to go play Axe and try Orb of Venom on him. Wish me luck!
What's a decent item build with Dark Seer? I tend to get Soul Ring first, then work towards a Hood of Defiance next, or Vanguard depending on if I need HP or not. Then I focus on Wand then Arcane Boots. Also, should I focus on getting attack speed items for Dark Seer? His right click is very slow, but it's also pretty potent.
Don't bother getting attack speed items. Your main goal is to get as many spells off as possible. Scythe of Vyse is a great disable, and the stats and mana regen work pretty good with Dark Seer. Shiva's is pretty good too.
I usually get Shiva's because it synergises more with Vacuum, and Vacuum is a big ass stun already, no need for the Hex (usually).
Heart is probably good for DS too if you are victorious in a couple of team clahses.

Blink feels wasted on Dark Seer because Vacuum is already good enough to solve all the positioning issues.
Blink feels wasted on Dark Seer because Vacuum is already good enough to solve all the positioning issues.
Had a game as dark seer where we were pushing their middle barracks, saw all of them gathering behind the barracks for an attack when I sucked them towards us with vacuum and our Earthshaker blocked them with his wall attack. We ended up killing all of them. Felt amazing.
