How do Spartans even bleed out of their armor if it's all sealed
[QUOTE=mac338;34982735]Well hopefully in a couple days at GDC we'll find out.
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
Well it is for the 360, and it is still in alpha. It'd figure if it wasn't polished and shoe-shined at the moment.[/QUOTE]
Those are Valve's textures though, not stock ones.

Well female spartans had their suit adapted for 'that time of the month'

Hm, you might be right. I'll investigate tomorrow.

Well presumably if they're getting shot at their suits won't be sealed for much longer
I don't think we'll see anything official of Halo 4 until E3, I can't see anything happening at GDC.

Wasn't GDC more about hardware and stuff than about games?
True.
Frank O'Connor is listed as a speaker though. WOnder what he'll be talking about.
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
Were they not originally going to show off Portal 2 at GDC one year? But then it got delayed to E3.
GDC does stuff sometimes.
[QUOTE=Bokito;34983239]Wasn't GDC more about hardware and stuff than about games?[/QUOTE]
Yes, GDC tends to focus more on the technical aspects of gaming than the actual games themselves. However, there have been some pretty major reveals there over the years. It's possible 343 may show off some of the revamps to the Halo engine, and thereby using assets from 4 to make that demonstration.
I wonder if Bungie will show anything, I didn't look for their name on the presenter list.
It's possible. They seem pretty entrenched in their new project, though. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't hear from them for awhile.
I preordered my copy of Halo 4 a few days ago. Already put $20 on it so if they release a collectors edition I'll automatically be upgraded to it (although I can choose not to be if I decide I don't want it).
The one thing that worries me about it is, as was said above, the lack of Marty O'Donnell. Hopefully this new guy can produce some good music, but I fear it'll never come close to Marty's work.
Honestly I'm pumped for the new music. From what I've heard so far it sounds pretty fuckin tight.

He's already composed amazing music for Metal Gear Solid 4, so no worries here.
The Metal Gear solid theme is one of the most memorable themes I've heard, it's not that.
It's that the style of music completely changes to something less Halo-y. Don't know how to explain it.
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
I worry that 343 will be more action focused and take away all the fun-but-not-so-realistic stuff that makes Halo Halo.
[QUOTE=Funky Pickle;34985971]He's already composed amazing music for Metal Gear Solid 4, so no worries here.[/QUOTE]
Yeah, but there's a distinct difference between 'amazing music' and... well, the caliber of stuff that Marty was producing for the Halo sound tracks. Those soundtracks were just... something else entirely.
Besides, he may be qualified from Metal Gear Solid but even with Hans Zimmer on board I would've complained, because only one man could make music that's truly... Halo. And that's Marty.

I'd say wait it out for a while. While Marty made the 'true' Halo music, we've never seen someone else attempt to make it. Once Halo 4 comes out, we'll be able to judge if it holds up to the previous iterations. I'm fairly optimistic, seeing as the music we heard in the trailer was pretty good.
are you guys daft or something? halo's music (the score especially) was insanely simple and easy to replicate.
it doesn't take a genius to get what marty made.
sure it's fucking awesome music, i went out of my way to get the soundtracks for the first two games (so much so i think i got like the ultra special edition and shit), but don't kid yourselves, it's not as groundbreaking as amon tobin or jesper kyd's shit, especially the former.
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
and if you don't know about them, amon made Splinter cell: chaos theory's soundtrack, which is probably the best soundtrack of all time.
then there's kyd, he made music for both the hitman series AND the assassin's creed series.
amon's got his own style, you can totally tell its his music just listening to a bit of a song. whereas kyd can do all sorts of shit.
both are much better composers than marty mc'donnell. only reason why they're off the radar is that marty got to make music for the biggest game series of all time and they get to make music for games that don't have a bandwagon nearly as big as halo's, combined.
The Halo soundtracks were genius to me. I've never heard a single other persons music capture the essence of 'ancientness' as well as Marty O'Donnell's did.
The Halo Wars soundtrack was pretty decent (ESPECIALLY 'Insignificantia') and that wasn't Marty's work, so hopefully we get something similar to that.
my god you've never heard of dead can dance have you.
if anything they're main inspiration for marty.
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
fuck i forgot what genre dead can dance is exactly but it's all really gothy epic sounding music.
it's like dark wave meets ethereal
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
fucking shit what was it, sigur ros was grouped in with it as well.
i think it's called ethereal wave.
One thing's creating a string of orchestral music, simple enough if you have the resources and knowledge. But it sounds boring.
Marty hits the right notes at the right time, making his music very memorable and engaging. Easy to replicate, sure, but not easy to create anew.
When you manage to create a theme that's recognizable by the first 4 seconds of it, like the James Bond theme - like the Metal Gear Solid themes - like the Harry Potter theme and like the Halo theme - that's when you've succeeded. Not necessarily when you've managed to make an orchestra play something that sounds 'nice'.
I just bought Halo!

But I don't own an Xbox :(
Because I never liked consoles and it's against my principles to buy one. But Halo is so freaking cool! I want it for PC!
What do you guys say, should I buy an Xbox just for Halo?
welll it's a gherman version so no
[QUOTE=FoodStuffs;34988685]welll it's a gherman version so no[/QUOTE]
I know. Can't you choose in which language you'd like to play in?
I remember back in the day I bought an Xbox just for Halo 2. Only reason I got one. That was worth it for me.

uhh, metal gear never really had a consistent theme song. the music varies greatly from game to game iirc.
also it is easy to create something like that anew, it's called music theory. in fact, it's much easier to create than original music because you have that one theme that you can stick to. pretty much all the music is just a bricolage of predetermined parts with heavy emphasis on the main theme score.
another case in point, chaos theory had many different themes, namely el cargo, the lighthouse and ruthless (reprise). all of those songs were easily recognizable as songs from splinter cell 3 but were all completely different sounding songs.
[QUOTE=FoodStuffs;34988701]uhh, metal gear never really had a consistent theme song. the music varies greatly from game to game iirc.[/QUOTE]
I was referring to this
[video=youtube;jv1uGFv_vMs]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv1uGFv_vMs[/video]
Which as far as I know has been in every game in one way or another.
I'm no music expert so I won't discuss the ease of this and that, I'm just going to say I've heard much orchestral music but Marty is one of the few who get the chords right so surely it can't be that easy.
not easily recognizable in the least bit, so much so i've play every solid game at least twice and nothing comes up in my memory. it's to slow to be "catchy"
and god damn it read the post. MUSIC THEORY. you get a degree in music theory+music comp and you can pump out insanely catchy theme songs by the dozen of all different kinds.
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
what you see in marty's music is production value.
of fucking course an orchestra and symphony is going to sound epic, there's a fuckton of people just playing the instruments. any time that happens and everyone knows what they're doing it always sounds epic.
I believe we have a difference in opinion in what is good, catchy and who can make what. This is not necessarily factual, so there's no point in us arguing about this any more.
it isn't opinion, it's solid fact. music theory is basically the study of what makes good music.
you think it's so rare but it's not. i highly doubt they picked him over others just because of skill, he either got his foot in the door first or had ties with the developers or something.
EVERYTHING in music has been done before so many times you'd have to be a retard to fuck it up if you studied music
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
also, it's classical.
classical has been around for fuck-ever.
