Jesus christ you guys are looking way too deep into the Competitive thing. The problem isn't that they want to play competitive or for money. That's fine, it's their life, and they're playing how they want to play. The problem is that they're influencing (Or from what we've seen of Halo 4, were influencing, but not anymore) design decisions at the cost of the rest of the playerbase.
What is so bad that they have influenced so far? The base game has customizable loadouts, killstreaks, perks, a 5 shot kill BR and armor abilities, none of which the pros support, and none have been removed or changed. They get their own playlist anyway, why would they complain? The only feedback which 343 really saw was how the pros abused promethean vision, which in turn I hoped they nerfed it.
Hey guys, have they invented human safe cryo tech yet? I need to get to November now.
Ive built one but it hasnt been deemed safe yet. Want to be my first subject?
use [thumb] tags Have you ever seen the amount of skill required for a Starcraft 2 match? They need to push out around 250 commands a minute which at its basic form is just mashing certain macros they have to manage an entire armada in the space of an hour or so. Concentration and dedication is required, just playing SC2 on the surface is like playing any game just on its surface. Take super meat boy as a completely obscure game to use - you play it for fun yes (at the expense of several controllers) but there are people that are playing it rather competitively by trying to complete it in less than 30 minutes and so forth. E-sports is like a fast paced action packed Chess, where the knight shoots flaming missiles at the rook. Tribes ascend is one that I can really understand (gee I can't imagine why) but on the surface level pub games are a cluster of generator camping, point farming, stomping, outright moronic gameplay and tactic using retards with the so called "good" players spamming in chat about how amazing they are and how you suck (aka every sport on the planet from football to golf). "Professional" gaming is a bad word, a word that people like MLG throw around to sound cool when in fact E-sport is something that is something which requires a high skill level and dedication to reach, just because games come and go quite rapidly and are a form of entertainment more than they are a sport doesn't mean people can challenge others at a higher skill level, should I take out their sniper or get rid of their flag defence? Should I rush with all my assets and risk the match at a last ditch attempt? There's a lot of decision making in E-sports that you don't get some actual sports which it's why I relate it to Battlefield: Chess. I understand this is incredibly narrow minded to say that in a sports like Football (read: Soccer) there isn't a lot of tactics being made other than "Who do I pass to?" sure there's some deeper depth to the player's skill level but there isn't a huge amount of decision making or tactical play involved, Football (read again: SOCCER) can be related to games like Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, and on some depth, Halo (Sue me). Basically, gaming can be a form of competitive "sport" in the same way chess and football can, except that gaming is merely the bridge between the two. Take this metaphor: Little casual Timmy over there that plays Modern Warfare 3 with his mates John and Bob also likes to play sports, and in fact, wants to continue onto a professional career. Jimmy despises games like Chess and thinks its for nerds and geeks with no life, gaming on a deeper level can be classed as nerdy and geeky too, but so can football. I guess it's really just down to society, I'm not trying to get all deep and sophisticated to prove a point but the reputation gaming has for being "mindless" and "violent" all instantly give a negative impact on anyone that looks at games on a deeper level, that includes E-sport. I used to think that competing for money on SC2 was rather stupid (and is for games like MW3 and BF3 with really no tactical depth) but when I got into Tribes more seriously I began to see the reason why. I still can't fathom how to play any RTS game, like, ANY RTS game, but I respect some of the e-sport players that can play it well and earn quite a large sum of money from it. At the end of the day, it's down to having fun - people have fun playing football and I have fun playing Tribes, some people can't understand how I get enjoyment staring at a screen (Ignorance #1 shining example) but in the same sentence a lot of Facepunchers, 4channers or Redditors can't understand how people enjoy sports (again, ignorance) but they're having fun, we're having fun and I guess that's all you can really boil it down to, fun, but a more organised fun with more people of the same skillset that also want to have fun with people that have a similar interest.
I think the main issue here is that these hardcore competitive players are the ones who end up practically deciding what weapons are powerful and what aren't, which isn't a good thing as the balance for competition pretty much makes the game less accessible to anyone who just wants to have fun. Instead the weapons are nerfed or buffed when they really shouldn't be just because a few people who take the game too seriously said so. If MLG just played the games but were also competitive, then that'd be fine. In reality, MLG affects the game outside of itself by not only banning certain aspects in the competitions, but affecting regular consumer playlists. Of course we can blame the developers who follow these people, but then again they're really pressured to make everyone happy.
The comp scene majorly help balance a game, you have to go to extremes to find which guns and items are the most OP, then work out how to make them not so OP. Tribes has the Sentinel class which is largely debated to be overpowered despite being useless against 6 out of the 9 classes, having the least amount of health of all classes and the longest respawn. Normally this would hinder public play (and it does for the lower guys) but when you get past ~rank 20 they really start to show their muster and become ridiculously good at defending the flag and require a dedicated person to take down - in competitive play a capper can't grab or come in unless he's down. The "MLG" guys are basically advanced Q/A except they know what they're doing.
I do not want a game designed for bad players.
Does anybody? The average player isn't bad, but they're also not the competitive type that groups like MLG cater to.
trying to watch rvb is just painful it's so convoluted and serious it's not even cute or funny where's sarge? grif? simmons? yeah i'm not cuaght up on the plot but i at least know that these characters should at least fucking be present in the series that they made famous [editline]18th July 2012[/editline] oh there they are. after all the serious shit happened with a bunch of characters nobody cares about.
I like the new Seasons :saddowns:

Is it just me, or is Halo 4 going to be the best yet?
I'd be surprised (not to mention disappointed) were it any other way.
I just got myself a 360 and Halo: Reach. I've played Halo 1 and 2 but the aiming always feels so awkward to me. I'll try to get used to it. If anyone wants to add me go ahead, gamertag under my avatar. My friends list is pretty empty.

If you guys do play, any Idea on when?
I somehow played so well in my last few MP games, that my overall KD ratio went up by 0.1. Maybe actually playing the campaign helped my aiming.
I'll be hosting Forge Wars tomorrow (July 21st) at 10:00 PM EST. I'll be filming, so join up if you want internet fame. Gamertag: Agoat944

Gamertag: Agoat944
You mean that one game were people make square bases and armories loaded with power weapons and go into forge mode and fly away when they are about to die?
I already asked if anyone wants to play today but no one ever seems to listen. 9pm BST (British Summer Time) 3pm EST 1pm PST You work out the rest.
I forgot how Forge Wars works
Plays just like Source Forts. There's a limited amount of time for two teams to build bases, once the time is up we save the map and move over to Team Slayer, where I have a gametype with pre-loaded classes and no weapons on map and no weapon pickup. Last few times we played, everyone loved it.
You mean that one game were people make square bases and armories loaded with power weapons and go into forge mode and fly away when they are about to die?
No, I put thought into my gametypes.
