I believe the armour is a seperate thing from the specialisations, so yes, you can mix and match. I think they just put these sets up as a showcase for some of the armours.

I think these are the armors the class rewards unlock.
Wow, many things in this article is stuff I don't even know! I love that!

ah that confused me i thought it was talking specifically about the armor sets not a class
So the new armours look pretty sweet but they still don't look like something from Halo, and I really, really hate how their catering to the MLG audience. Oh and I can't wait too see the Scout specialization is if there is one since that's what I'll be using the most.

i wonder how many specializations their will be theres a lot of room for them to become epic and i will most likely be using Wetworks until i get the full armor then switch to one of the other 10

just saw this sorry so do you do coding/artwork/etc for a video game company?
holy fuck that armor is amazing
holy fuck that armor is amazing
Yeah, but I'm a bit mixed on the Specializations. It sounds like it will give people who pay more for the Limited Edition a huge advantage at launch, but I could just be misunderstanding the concept.
i'm just a little iffy on the effects that come with them. part of me would rather leave them be cosmetic. but hey, maybe it'll be really good.

i think it is just a huge advantage from what it said i also got that and apparently most people + it think the limited edition even says you get to start with 10 specializations from launch
oh, i'm glad we agree
[editline]14th August 2012[/editline]
Wait, I think we're reading this wrong.
With that in mind, a few housekeeping notes: Specializations give you 10 extra levels’ worth of goodies to unlock, including nine levels cosmetic armor items. Those nine include armor sets, skins for those armor sets, a weapon skin, emblems, and a visor color. On the tenth level (though the order of what will unlock when isn't finalized yet, according to 343 and Microsoft), you get your gameplay modifying perk – the ultimate prize you really care about that we’ll detail below.
I don't think it comes with the armor?
I don't think the armour is going to look that good in-game, from what I've seen in the trailers and pictures the texturing is pretty bad on them.
oh, i'm glad we agree
yeah but it all depends on the new skill system they made and to your other post from what i have read the armor is cosmetic but you get at least some of it from lvling the specialization but this is just what others have been thinking so im not sure
OH! I'm right. They're just showing off the armor, and the armor MODS are separate.
I don't see any of these abilities having enough of an impact to seriously give a player an advantage. First few times they use it maybe for shock or confusion, but they aren't so powerful that regular players can't win.
Its not like armor lock before the patch.
Armor itself is still cosmetic
Armor itself is still cosmetic
343i said along time ago your armour will affect how you play.

i dont think they are supposed to help you to much its just like a extra small little boost to go along with AAs which seem pretty balanced and fair so far
343i said along time ago your armour will affect how you play.
If I'm reading the article correctly, it clearly says that armor sets are cosmetic, and armor mods are a totally separate level of specialization
If I'm reading the article correctly, it clearly says that armor sets are cosmetic, and armor mods are a totally separate level of specialization
also a lot of the customization screen shots have shown being able to mix and match so if it wasnt cosmetic then most people would have the full suit for the special powers
edit: found this and its direct from the article "Specializations give you 10 extra levels’ worth of goodies to unlock, including nine levels of cosmetic armor items"

No, but I am the owner of a game company myself and 3 others started in Late march is about to proceed into the soft launch phase where we will hire the remaining staff we need to have a team and the resources it take in building high quality games.

cool how hard has it been so far though?
cool how hard has it been so far though?
Not difficult really as long as you are confident its what you want to do, its very interesting and exciting. Although, its a lot more work than most give credit for.
I started an interesting discussion with a friend regarding Star Wars Tech vs Halo after reading the "Kinetic Weapons Are Just Better" page on tvtropes.
Arguably while the Star Wars universe has more advanced then the Halo universe, Star Wars tech was made to defend against energy based weaponry, not kinetic.
Heck, in Star Wars lore, while Projectile weapons (called "Slugthrowers") exist they're not wide spread, but evidently are effective against Stormtrooper armour (which really isn't effective against anything, see: Ewoks)
Like wise, Starships in Star Wars have Ray shields, but only protect from objects like space debris they would possibly hit while moving in normal space.
With this in mind, a MAC round could easily tear through all hull of a ship in the Star Wars universe, and any other high velocity projectile based UNSC weapon could damage them.
Now the Covenant races tech being designed around energy based weapons and defences might find it harder to fight against the Star Wars forces since they are also designed around energy based weapons and defences.
Now, a majority, if any, UNSC ships do not have energy shields, so Turbolaser fire would eventually erode the hull (Heavy Turbolasers could possibly tear right through) on their ships, but the same could be said about the UNSC ship to ship weapons against Star Wars ships, since as stated earlier would not defend against high velocity rounds.
Also keep in mind, while Star Wars weapons are referred to as 'Lasers' they're not actually lasers in a conventional sense, they are plasma based like Covenant weaponry,
