The word "gimmick" gets thrown around so much in video game discussion, it's lost all meaning. Anything could be classified as a "gimmick" now, when originally a gimmick meant that the game sucks but has one interesting feature/mechanic. Wanna know a gimmicky game? Fracture. That game is gimmicky because it takes a neat idea (a shooter where you can modify terrain) and implements it horribly. Even CoD isn't gimmicky because it doesn't have any outstanding features.
Thats my problem with cod mainly,it would probaly be a decent game if they added new features intead of just a new coat of paint over the same shit that was in the last game, but anyway back to Halo. Anybody here still play Halo ce or 2 for the pc?
Seems that I'm getting a ghost.
same, and here I thought I would only get armor and gun camos.

As for Halo, I still see an occasional server or two, I enjoy the single-player of both and custom edition is pretty awesome, might make a firefight map or two sometime.
Limited edition gets all the skins, right? I really want the spider one.
Limited edition gets all the skins, right? I really want the spider one.
Who said that? These are preorder exclusives.
i want that arctic br skin [editline]19th September 2012[/editline] i wish it was digital though, to kinda keep with the sci-fi theme.
IIRC a "Nordic edition" (the regular version in Finland, Sweden and such) of some game had all the pre-order dlc that was offered in different shops in the US - probably because none of the shops here had exclusive pre-order dlc. I would ejaculate furiously if we'd get something like that with Halo 4 too.
Seems that I'm getting a ghost.
I'll stick with Best Buy because I like Dead Space. I might trade the Deadeye helmet, though.
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a406862/halo-4-retailer-pre-order-bonuses-revealed-for-the-uk.html UK pre-order bonuses have finially been detailed.
I'll stick with Best Buy because I like Dead Space. I might trade the Deadeye helmet, though.
The helmets are not part of the preorder bonus, only the skins are.
Us Swedes gets the CIO Pre-Order bonus, it doesn't look too shabby.
And Different Weapon Camo. Just like Call of Duty.
And Different Weapon Camo. Just like Call of Duty.
I forgot Call of Duty invented camoflauge
And Different Weapon Camo. Just like Call of Duty.
Aw shit, here we go.
I would really like to see, maybe just once, one of my posts followed up by someone that would explain to me why this game isn't heavily mimicking the recent releases of the Call of Duty series.
I would really like to see, maybe just once, one of my posts followed up by someone that would explain to me why this game isn't heavily mimicking the recent releases of the Call of Duty series.
Mimicking and adapting to a trend are not the same things. Gun camo exists in many games. Call of Duty popularized it, but Halo popularized elements of the FPS that made CoD work in the first place. Video gaming is cyclical. I expect the next Call of Duty to begin development will have features resembling those of Halo 4's, as well.

Besides is mimicing a few good ideas really that much of a crime. Its been done for years and its what has allowed games to progress so well. Not just games, everything has progressed by people taking others ideas and improving on them.

Standard Halo gametypes had everyone start with the same weapon or a random weapon; where as a standard Halo 4 gametype would have you pick your weapon based on level, much like Call of duty. The models and campaign gameplay are leaving bounds as well, in my opinion, because they add tons of gameplay elements to a story that was almost perfectly wrapped up. Reach wasn't necessarily a mainline addition to the Halo franchise- it was like ODST, a departure from the norm. It experimented with ideas that would give Halo more long term play ability and act as a testbed for tech that 343 could inherit from Bungie. Halo 4 reconciles those ideas with the gameplay we came to know and love from the original trilogy. Standard Halo 4 gametypes are still based on random weapons and such, only wargames and certain other gametypes actually use loadouts, if I'm not mistaken. And trust me, the story was not even close to wrapped up. The Halo universe has many loose ends to be dealt with (Chief needs closure, the UNSC is in a bind after the war, there's still 5 unaccounted for Halos, we still have no goddamn idea what the Flood is [in 2553- us IRL folks know exactly where] and if it could come back, and the Forward Unto Dawn was spiraling towards a Forerunner construct, anyway).
As if Camo is a defining feature of any game. There is a lot of reasons why Halo is not COD and why they are different from each-other, the shield system, the vehicle play, the art-style, the universe and lore, story. They're all completely different. I could go on and on, I mean hey, remember when halo had ironsights? Me too
That's why I have such a problem with this. The point I do however agree with you in terms of Halo 4 not being Halo is unlocking guns. Im totally ok with choosing a starting weapon but they should really all just be given to you at the start.

Perks? The Character Design? E.G. The Covenant look nothing at all like anything in any halo game.

Otherwise, expect a system similar to Reach. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (looking at you, Delta).
What about killstreaks? Perks? The Character Design? E.G. Wargames is a new gametype geared to keep up with modern trends. Don't like it? No problem, click another playlist. And it's been 11 years since Halo 1 came out, the Covenant have undergone many graphical redesigns. These are no different. Physiological alterations are debatable as to whether or not they are excusable, but armor and such is entirely so- it's been years (3 or so, I think) since the Human-Covenant/Great War ended. These are not the same Covenant we've been fighting for (11) 30+ years. They've adapted, just as mankind has. It's confined to the Infinity gametypes IE Infinity Slayer.
Some Halo 4 stuff being talked about on Gametrailers TV Friday morning 1AM EST http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/t3eqhy/gt-tv-gttv-halo-4-promo
COMMENCE SADNESS.
What about killstreaks? Perks? The Character Design? E.G. The Covenant look nothing at all like anything in any halo game.
The Covenant go under a graphical redesign every game. Look at Reach for example and what they did with the Elites, or look at Halo 2s drones compared to Halo 3s. In fact the Brutes have had 3 redesigns now. Besides whats forcing to play these game modes, there are many people like you who want the same thing out of Halo and 343 understand that, they've already said there are going to be classic playlists. If you dont want kill streaks and specialisations just dont play the playlists they feature in. Is it so wrong for them to make changes when its still possible to play it how Halo used to be?

The Jackels look so different, their heads looks like they were taken from a T-Rex, Jackels in the old games looked like Bird/raptors
