The cannon reason is that the the FUD was carrying prototypes of the Battle Rifles.
It's a cop-out yeah, but it's better than complete retconing, it would be cool if they reskined/remodeled them to be more prototypish though. That or just make a remodel of the old assault rifle, but that's just nitpicking on my part.
Oh that explains why I was using prototype Battle Rifles on the Ark.
Oh that explains why I was using prototype Battle Rifles on the Ark.
Just because they were carrying prototypes doesn't mean they were not carrying normal ones.
It's a weak reason used to justify for the style art yeah, but as said, better than a retcon.
Because 343. Their willingness to change something 'just because' is worrying.

I hate how they've been taking the 'you didn't see it so it could have happened' approach to a lot of things.
i don't think it matters a big deal
valve did the same with portal 2

But they did it in ways that made sense and could easily be explained in the past game. Most of the changed for Halo 4 either can't or are done though contrived explanations. Example:
The new Dawn breaks two rather large canon points.
1) The hanger is not in the rear, so how did Chief and Arbiter get on?
2) The bridge is still very much attached to the wreckage, so how did Arbiter get back to earth?
[t]http://images.wikia.com/halo/images/7/7a/Forwarduntodawnreton.jpg[/t]
The Dawn is a perfect example of something that did not need to be changed, and has no canon way to be changed with out retcons
this might sound dumb
but i don't even have the attention span to really care. it's sorta like an inconsistency in a movie. you keep watching and enjoy it because at the end of the day it's still good. you had fun playing halo 3, and you might have fun playing halo 4. i think it's excusable.

We care because it makes the suspension of disbelief hard if things keep changing with no or bad explanation. We care because its bad, sloppy, and lazy writing in a piece of fiction we enjoy.

Yeah your argument isn't really making any sense and your kind of sounding like a fanboy right now.
just preordered halo 4
how get preorder bonuses?????

i'm being passive about minor inconsistencies while everyone is nitpicking these details and i'm the fanboy? i'm just saying that none of this really seems necessary if literally the rest of the entire plot is doing just fine relatively

I love you.
This is precisely the point I've been trying to make.
The new FUD now looks like a boring generic ship now. I wish they kept to having an art style that was still influenced by Syd Mead's work.

But due to some of these changes, IE, the Dawn, the plot can't proceed.
As the Dawn stands now, Chief and Arbiter bounced off the engines and died on halo at the end of Halo 3. Even if that was some how averted, Arbiter would still be on the Dawn in Halo 4, because the bridge is till there.
Changes are fine with an explanation, changes in and already established canon just because you want them is not fine.

This was the one thing that never made sense to me. However, the bridge is in the same location than it was in Halo 3.
[t]http://images.wikia.com/halo/images/e/ef/UNSC_Forward_Unto_Dawn.jpg[/t]
Maybe the Arbiter didn't go to the bridge, perhaps an aux navigation control? Just throwing some ideas around.

Bridge is still intact in Halo 3 post slicing ship in half. (Where those red lights are)
Thoughts?
Wait, how the fuck? I went check the end to see where the bridge is, only to find that it IS still on the dawn.

But Arbiter is clearly in the bridge at the end of Halo 3.

Ha I ninja'd you.
I'm thinking maybe that's not the bridge, and maybe an auxiliary control station. That looks too small to be the bridge.

Damn it.
I bet you didn't hunt down a video to painstakingly take screencaps of and edit with loving care in paint.
Anyway, every source I can find lists it as the bridge.
How good was the first episode of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn?
How good was the first episode of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn?
Excellent, though its heavy on the character introductions due to it being the first episode.
How good was the first episode of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn?
Very.
It was also moderately uneventful.
That little light thing at the end of episode, god i want to know what it is.
Its totally not aliens.

The back of the bridge was cut off when they went to through the portal. Airlocks made it so the Arbiter wouldn't run out of air.
The back of the bridge was cut off when they went to through the portal.
If that were the case the Arbiter would have died, or sucked into space.
The back of the bridge was cut off when they went to through the portal. Airlocks made it so the Arbiter wouldn't run out of air.
But then we have a dead Arbiter, and hes obviously not dead.

Delta, I swear to god...
Spartan, don't rate disagree. It was stupid and visual evidence disagree with you.

Not very clear pic, but you can see that only forward section made it, the bridge is nowhere near the forward section.
snip (or retcon if you will)

Arbiter flies into the Earth
Doesn't really explain why he ran all the way to the front of the ship, rather then just to the bridge.
This a whole new problem.
