I hope 4 has more goofy and fun maps like Halo 3, massive open spaces with loads of vehicles etc.
He was part of the spartan I project, which were basically what ODST's are.
ODSTs are ODSTs, not Spartan Is, whole different thing, there weren't many candidates for project ORION.
I hope 4 has more goofy and fun maps like Halo 3, massive open spaces with loads of vehicles etc.
My favorite maps were the ones had something special it, we would all go out the barrier and try to race each other with the landmines or the snow map and make a outside barricade to shelter in from the turrets that lock on and kill anyone that tries to escape.
The map with the floating sententials in the background made a popular target practice map
The map with the boats, Oh man we had boat wars
Terminal still remains my favorite halo map (Halo 2 train level)
I'm still surprised they've never brought terminal back.

That you know of....
He was part of the spartan I project, which were basically what ODST's are.
No. ODSTs have always been a step under Spartans.
No. ODSTs have always been a step under Spartans.
More so; the leap between an ODST and a Spartan is akin to the jump from a second gen Pentium to an Ivy Bridge.
[editline]18th May 2012[/editline]
They're posthuman supersoldiers who were conditioned from childhood to kill bad guys, you don't get much more effective than that.
Well, Spartan I and IIs at least. IIIs and IVs were more or less mass produced and some were already around 18 when they began the program iirc
Yeah the ODST are the next best thing to the Spartans. They're the best trained soldiers.
I don't know
I'd think of the S2s as being the "dumb muscle" of the UNSC, whereas the ODSTs (And probably S3s) think out things much more an rely on using tactical thinking rather than brute force to get the job done.
Remember, the S2s were picked off of having above average physical traits, not early academic talents. Sure, Master Chief is certainly smart, but I doubt the rest of the S2s used their brains as well as him to survive the fall of Reach.
IVs are now the next step up from ODST, they'll choose the best of the best ODSTs and give them rigorous training to meet SPARTAN-IV standards.
Which makes it even more streamlined.

Which would be a very wise decision for the UNSC.
I mean, the S2s costed too much time and money to produce, and in the end almost all of them got wiped in a single attack (the fall of Reach)
Whereas S4s are much more efficient. They just cost slightly more time and money to train than the average soldier, are much better than the average soldier, and you have so much more that you don't have to worry about them all being wiped out at once unless you plan on activating your local halo array.

Actually they only lost like a quarter or half of the Spartan IIs at Reach, and even then they died doing what they were supposed to do, completing their missions and such.
The rest are stuck in some dumb sphere on Onyx or whatever.

Are you kidding? They had VERY strict criteria for the children that were dragged into the SPARTAN-II program. They didn't just have to be strong, they had to be intelligent too - really intelligent. The entire idea was that the SPARTAN-IIs truly would be the best of the best. They'd be fast, strong, intelligent - they were meant to both outmuscle and outwit their enemies.
The primary selection factor was genetic compatibility with their augments, them already being strong and smart before being taken is just a bonus
The primary selection factor was genetic compatibility with their augments, them already being strong and smart before being taken is just a bonus
Actually, compatability with the augments was a low priority, as seen from how many Spartans died or became completely fucked up due to the genetic alterations.
They looked for strong and smart kids, and that's it. Everything else was an afterthought.
There are several types of spartans:
Spartan-I(ORION Project): Adult volunteers that were subjected to augmentations different than spartan-II, they included muscular enhancement injections, pulmonary respiratory enhancements, retina-inversion injections and cochlea enhancement tuning as well and mental augmentations to enhance brain functions. This was canceled because it did not reach the effect that ONI wanted and had a chance of causing several diseases, one of which prevented the flood infection that I will discuss below.
Spartan 1.1: Newborns of soldiers who were in the ORION Project, they were augmented as babys to prevent complications from their parents augmentation. Side effects included:
Higher-than-average intelligence
Increased speed
Enhanced vision
Immunity to most illnesses
Inability to become intoxicated through alcohol, though they can get high through an unspecified illegal recreational drug, as well as by painkillers
Decreased amount of time required for sleep
Enhanced hearing
Increased lung capacity
Superior muscle density
Heightened sense of balance
Accelerated cellular regeneration
Faster-than-normal reflexes
Increased strength
They tried to form their own army once they found each other but failed as the covenant invaded before they had a chance.
Spartan-II: The next step in the spartan project, this one was targeted at kids who were still 5-6 and had specific genes that helped the augmentation process. Kidnapped by oni, and trained their entire life. Had flash clones put in their place. Augmentation often resulted in deformity or death. Augmentations included:
Occipital Capillary Reversal
Surgery is performed on the occipital lobe of the left cerebral hemisphere of the brain; the occipital lobe is the visual processing center of the brain, containing most of the anatomical region of the visual cortex. The surgeon performs a procedure on the capillaries, the smallest of the body's blood vessels, to reverse the direction of blood flow in each capillary to boost the blood flow beneath the rods and cones of the subject's retina. The rods and cones of the eye are light-sensitive receptors located in the back of the eye. Together they are able to detect movement, light and color, and relay that information back to the brain. This procedure produces a marked visual perception increase.
11% of subjects could face retinal rejection and detachment causing permanent blindness.
Carbide Ceramic Ossification
Surgery is performed on the arms and legs of the subject's body to expose the bone. An advanced carbide ceramic material is grafted onto the skeletal structure to begin skeletal ossification. This process works by breaking down bone and rebuilding it stronger then before. This results in the bones being virtually unbreakable. The coverage of this procedure does not exceed 3% total bone mass due to significant white blood cell necrosis; to make up for that a growth hormone is administered to help strengthen the bones throughout the rest of the body.
3.8% failure rate due to possible mutations and compromised bone marrow matrix integrity. In pre-and near-postpubescent adolescents, skeletal growth spurts may cause irreparable bone pulverization.
Catalytic Thyroid Implant
A platinum pellet is implanted in the left thyroid gland; this pellet contains a human growth hormone that is released into the body to boost growth of skeletal and muscle tissues. As the hormone is released into the body the pellet dissolves and is absorbed. The hormone targets and stimulates the growth of fast and slow twitch muscle fibers, effectively producing significant gains in muscle mass. The hormone also targets osteoblasts to help boost bone tissue formation and effectively strengthen the bone structure.
2% of subjects acquire elephantiasis. Suppressed sexual drive.
Muscular Enhancement Injections
In addition to the growth hormone catalyst, a protein complex is injected intramuscularly that targets the muscles' intracellular molecular machinery to help increase muscle strength and endurance. These injections target the muscles' molecules increasing the density of the connective tissues and fibers, the more visible result being the muscles quivering and contorting over one another, making connecting tendons stronger and decreasing lactase recovery time.
5% of test subjects experience a fatal cardiac volume increase.
Superconducting Fibrification of Neural Dendrites
Alteration of bioeletrical nerve transduction to shielded electronic transduction. 300% increase in subject reflexes. Anecdotal evidence of marked increase in intelligence, memory, and creativity.
12% of subjects can contract Parkinson's Disease and Fletcher's Syndrome.
Spartan-III: While still within an age range, the ages were much more flexible just as the genes required were. As orphans these spartans were not kidnapped but offered a chance to get revenge at the covenant for killing their family. Risks were negligible and success rate was 100% Augmentations this time was entirely drug induced and didn't require surgery. These drugs/augmentations included:
8942-LQ99
"Carbide ceramic ossification catalyst" drug.
Skeletons become virtually unbreakable, allowing survival in harder impacts.
88005-MX77
"Fibroid muscular protein complex" drug.
Increased density of individual's muscles, allowing heavier lifting.
88947-OP24
"Retina-inversion stabilizer" drug.
Color sharpness is significantly improved upon, and night vision is adapted.
87556-UD61
Improve the colloidal neural disunification solution
Greatly improves the individual's reaction time, decreasing the time taken to react by 300%. "Spartan time".
Spartan-IV: Augmentations unknown. Participants included spartans from both Spartan-II and Spartan-III generations.
Other Inquiry's
Spartan-I: One of the side effects of their augmentations, unknown to humanity at the time, was immunity to the flood. This disease was masked as Boren's Syndrome. Effects of being attempted to be infected by flood possibly included an increased regeneration rate as some of the flood dna was still spliced in.
Spartam-III: Further augmentations were possible with other drugs but were not induced due to increased aggression and need counter drugs. Kurt, leader of the spartan-III teams, illegally put these drugs in the spartan cocktail of augmentation during Gamma teams procedure. These drugs/augmentations included:
009762-OO
Neural-altering non-carcinogenic mutagen.
Alters key regions in the individual's frontal lobe. Enhances aggressive response to dangerous levels. Requires regular doses of 009127-PX and 009927-DG to be taken to avoid uncontrollable aggression.
009127-PX
Cyclodexione-4, bipolar integration drug
Counters the effects of 009762-OO.
009927-DG
Miso-olanzapine
Counters the psychological effects of 009762-OO.
Sorry for getting carried away with this post!!!
Actually no, that's really informative. Thanks for that.

So wait, they're allowing Spartan IIs and IIIs to be recycled as Spartan IVs?
shit just got complex

Spartan IIs aren't but IIIs are. Its mentioned in Glasslands that the III part of Blue team were offered to go into the Spartan IV program, whether they accepted is unknown.

They're all intelligent, Chief didnt survive the Fall of Reach through smarts, he just wasnt deployed on suicide missions like the rest of them.
If anyone wants an avatar of their Spartan, send me a PM.
I wish some of that olden day Halo magic was back.
Y'know, this good old hype

That and Halo 2 had a direct cliffhanger with an unfinished story while Halo 3 did not (yes it had a cliffhanger but not one like Halo 2).

Video game releases as a whole aren't the big events they used to be. Call of Duty kinda killed it for everybody, IMO. Modern Warfare came out and stole the spotlight from what was supposedly the last Halo game (for the time being). MW2 came out and it was a big deal. Then...Call of Duty games, every year. Each release sold more, but the hype was gone. Nobody cared. Everybody got used to it each year. So now, we're left with maybe one or two huge, hypeworth events every once in awhile.
Halo's still the king, but Microsoft needs to market the shit out of Halo 4, or its launch is going to go unremarked this winter. It'll sell well, but won't strike home.

I thought Reach was an improvement over 3, but it just surprises me how much further and further developers manage to push the limits of a 5-6 year old system.
Any decent Halo 4 wallpapers? 1440 X 900
