You can't really say the campaign was bad though, it was terrible story wise, but gameplay it was one of the most solid Halo games of time, it understood itself enough to let you enjoy it.
The gameplay was good but I felt they tried to cram too many scenarios into a short campaign, like space combat, the falcon mission, sitting in the gunner seat of the falcon on tip of the spear. All these would have been great if they occured more often or for longer and more fleshed out but there wasnt enough time in the campaign.

It was kinda annoying how they described all these characters and I was all like "man I can't wait to see how these guys will affect the flow of combat" and then the only difference was that one of them had a sniper sometimes
Not to mention that I never saw a single scene with Kat with a pistol slowly walking behind Jorge as he shoots into what seems like a crowd it's in one of the videos
Not to mention that I never saw a single scene with Kat with a pistol slowly walking behind Jorge as he shoots into what seems like a crowd it's in one of the videos
A lot of the scenes in the vidocs were made solely for the vidoc, or got cut. Such as the scene where it shows Noble Team outside the relay outpost in the first level flaring for a helicopter to come. [editline]19th February 2012[/editline] And another one where Noble 6 and Carter kick a door in and shoot at whoever is inside. I'm guessing there were going to be Insurrectionists to be fought in Reach, but they got cut out. Speaking of that, why has not a single Halo game (/w exception of Halo Wars Multiplayer as an NPC faction) let us fight or even see the rebels? All we got in Reach was two mentions of them.
because it'd be easy as shit to kill them as a spartan. plus killing rebels doesn't send a good message no matter how you put it
because it'd be easy as shit to kill them as a spartan. plus killing rebels doesn't send a good message no matter how you put it
Rebels have sheer numbers on their side, like Grunts. How would killing rebels send a bad message though? Reach came out before the 2011 revolutions anyway.

Emile apparently almost got pulled from Noble because he was too brutal with the rebels - imagine if the media got a hold of Six running around teabagging their dead.
So I finally caved after 2 years and bought Halo 2 Vista. Not so much for the multiplayer (I've heard it's a mess of hackers), but I seriously miss the campaign.

It's the reason the Spartans were created in the first place, to deal with the Insurrection. It would add a nice layer of plot to see them in a light other than as super heroes.
yeah but nobody will ever see it that way plus it'd look like a dumb cod publicity stunt i'm fine shooting aliens

I just can't help but feel that the UNSC would not be cool with casually shooting rebels in the face like we do with the covenant.

trust me it's better for 343 if they stray away from the image of giant army men shooting down them nasty dern rebels
You'd be surprised, the impression I always got from the novels was that they really didn't care what happened to the Innies, so long as they stopped annoying the UNSC.
When I said "UNSC" I meant "the people who will inevitably investigate the UNSC". I get that the SPARTANs are top-secret and all, but one of the rebels is bound to have a camera phone or something. Then all that "shoot first ask questions later" mentality players have adopted would backfire horrendously.

I doubt any cell phone camera videos or pictures of Spartans would be able to get very far before people and information start "disappearing", and internet networks have "outages due to a storm"

All ONI needs to do is sick a smart AI or, hell, even a dumb one on it and just let the fireworks go on.
If you ignore the multiplayer and compare the campaign alone to the rest of the Halo franchise then, by comparison, Reach DID suck. But that's only by comparison. On its own merit alone it was a pretty decent game.
Honestly I'll have to disagree with you. I found that all of the Halo's have done a good job with the campaign. ODST was probably the most drastic change in terms of how the game is played, but even it wasn't a bad game. I just didn't like how I had to play treasure hunter in the dark between each story. Reach did things differently than the other Halo's as well, but it wasn't terrible. You have to understand that Reach takes place when Spartans are still a dime a dozen pretty much and you're fighting one of the most important battles in the series.
Decided to play Halo 3 on multiplayer. The map was Infestion, and I hadn't played Halo 3 in a year or two. I get on, and I jump towards something, expecting small jump, nope. I went on to get a terrible amount of deaths, and like ten points. Anyway, news on Halo 4 at all?

The occasional griefer can be hilarious, but when there are fifteen of them crammed into one map, it gives me PTSD.

Speaking of Halo 4, 343 best be adding join-in-progress to matchmaking. Also, it might be time to add a bit more spice to multiplayer, sure, multiplayer hasn't been in reskin territory for the past 5 games, but the formula is starting to get stale. We need things like higher playercounts, larger maps (Forge world size), classes (Medic, Support, ect, not COD "Classes"), and gameplay that revolves around teamwork and communication. If you've played Hugeass or Coldsnap, which are maps that only real way to succeed is by heavy teamwork, then you will know what I mean. Like that, but all the time is where I'm going with this. Same basic gameplay as normal Halo, but with much more emphasis on teamwork, much like COD3 is to the rest of it's series.
Speaking of Halo 4, 343 best be adding join-in-progress to matchmaking.
Ehhh. I don't see why that's necessary. Very few games exceed 15 minutes, and most last around 7-8. Joining active games could damage the validity of one's statistics (win/loss/kill/death count could be disproportionate to games/time played), and a fair number of people (myself included) are seriously anal about stats. I do see how it would be useful, though -- not having to wait to join a friend and keeping games full constantly would be a huge bonus. But if it were an option, I would choose to only join closed games; it just seems like it would be more consistent and serious (not to say that casual games are bad, just that custom games is better suited for that sort of thing). Hate to bring it up here, but Call of Duty allows the joining of active games, and to me that just feels far too arcade-y -- which might be fine for CoD, but I don't think it would work for Halo.
Anyone want to reach with me? I've never had anyone play co-op campaign or firefight with me :(
My main gripe with join-in-progress is that people on a losing team will quit more than the ones on a winning team, thus resulting in you joining games on the losing team more often than in a winning one. Also, you could join a game that has around 15 seconds left, making you wait in a lobby anyways.
Join in Progress doesnt suit Halo. I prefer being given 5 guys on my team, and them being my team not some constantly changing list of players varying in number.
Halo 2 Vista came today, and I've spent the better part of the last 2 hours playing it. I haven't had any issues; from what everyone says, I'm lucky. Does anyone know the extent of client-side modding that is allowed? As in, custom textures and models? I'd love to resize some of the weapons. I don't ever remember them being so big. Or the crosshairs so low on the screen.

Halo 2 is no exception. So yeah, any client modding would cause the server to spit you out because of an inconsistent map, unlike Halo 1 which only did consistency checks for map geometry.
Halo 4 needs bots but only if they are smart bots
