I don't like how they seem to have dropped the smg. It found its balance with the new 32 round AR: Less power more dakka
Yeah SMG was so fun to use in Halo 3! They should bring it back and make it a counter for the plasma rifle.
That's because we were at war with them at the time. No one is going to come out from the Covenant side and say, Hey! You need to know about our guns?
It could also just be 343 adding more details into the Halo universe.
That, and there were no companies manufacturing Covenant weaponry prior to the Civil War. State manufacturers likely handled it. Now, though, it's likely that private industry has taken off.
anyone want to play some custom games in reach/3? I'll set a game up if I can get a group.
Something that bothers me storyline wise is that the new spartans still don't have VISR. As gamebreaking as it could be in, for example, multiplayer it still should be (again, storyline wise) standard issue on the spartans.
I'd like at least an SMG in custom games.
Another idea: Let me tweak my per-weapon damages. (At least in Infection.)
Even if the weapon doesn't fit into the balance ratio, there's no harm in including them. Halo has always had an incredible penchant for modularity, you could never even see an SMG in matchmaking- even with loadouts.
uh, they have
it's the next gen covie plasma rifle
unless I'm confusing the assault carbine with the storm rifle
Its confirmed, Assault Carbine is the Storm Rifle.
Actually i'm hoping it's supposed to be like the assault rifle from Combat Evolved
Actually I think the SMG is actually supposed to work like the AR from Combat Evolved, same accuracy, same ammo, same high rate of fire.

See I think the developers just hate the SMG or something because theres a few guns in Halo: Reach that didn't fit in the gameplay like the Spiker or the Plasma Rifle but they them added anyway despite them saying they removed the SMG for redundancy.

Which sucks, because the bigger the weapons sandbox, the better. With Forge and custom games, the more assets the better. It wouldn't even take any extra work on behalf of the dev team, as balance wouldn't need to be tested thoroughly- just don't put the SMG in matchmaking.

Even so I think the SMG has a place, it seems theyve beefed up the Assault rifle a bit so all it would have to be is;
Close range, SMG wins.
Medium range, Assault rifle wins.
I couldn't even care if it was any good or not, it looks cool, has a place within the canon and it feels weird being missing.
I think its chief's signiture weapon behind the AR. Its a weapon thats been in so much of the canon just a bit weird that theyve pushed it to the side.

Agreed, and more importantly, we're running very low on small arms. Now that the plasma rifle, a formerly close-mid range weapon, is gone in favor of a mid range assault rifle-esque weapon, we're down to the M6H, plasma pistol, and...is that it?

I guess the Needler but thats more of a specialist kind of weapon, I just dont get why they would have both the DMR and the BR but not the AR and the SMG.
Maybe it is in and just hasnt been shown, or am I hoping for too much?
I wish we got to see the M247 GPMG a bit more as well, only really appeared in Halo 2, I know it was in Reach as a big turret, but I mean the squad varient. I found it weird that theres no Automatic Riflemen in the world of Halo.

This glorious bastard.

I'd like the Halo 2 pistol to make a return.
Yeah, I'd love if they included a 'heavy' option, I'd love to go and spawn with one of those HMGs, they're just so much damned fun, I'm glorious with mounted guns in reach, I'm a beast with the ones in Anchor 9

That weapon was a god in the right hands, especially in MM

Another badass gun that doesn't get enough appearances.
I liked the ODST Pistol.
I agree, but at the same time the Reach pistol is godlike. I fucking own in matchmaking with just that. I feel like Arby from Arby n The Chief.

Spawning with a turret might be a bit overpowered.
Spawning with a turret might be a bit overpowered.
Not necessarily. The thing about turrets is their lack of accuracy, slow speed and miserable range. Spawning with a turret leaves you open to melee, BR/DMR attacks and anybody with Promethean vision.
not to mention a guy with no knees could out run you. Unless you're an odst, then all bets are off.
Why so quiet today my fellow Haloians?
Hopefully 343 will get to concepts bungie was going to implement but cut, Such as blind wolves (wildlife that could be mounted)...Flood carrier forms with jackal shields and driving a scarab through a covie base and wrecking shit up.
Just recently got back into Reach and I'm finding it very easy to pick back up again. My first game back was a little iffy but after that I've been kicking ass like I was almost a year ago. It's such a fun game, I don't know why I stopped playing it.

There won't be any Flood in this, but I could see blind wolves being part of the Requiem fauna.
Driveable scarabs, maybe. Hopefully. Just to watch the carnage.

I dont think the Covenant presense will be significant enough to warrant a Sacarab, as fun as it would be.

Perhaps. It depends on how big the force that hit Requiem is. Though, judging by how many forces we've seen, it could be anything from a CCS-class to a full on Assault Carrier. Shame we don't know why they're there, it'd make figuring this out much easier :v:.

Same, I played Anniversary Classic with a friend after about 4 months of not playing, went 21-3 KD in my first game.

What's the covenant doing in halo 4?

Chilling and killing, most of the time.
