The SMG is a good fort attacker but not destroyer, it's pretty cool to see your fort being broken up piece by piece and you have to maintain it. Also i'm new to this, does green always start with a fort?
depends on the map, most have prebuilt fortifications for both teams
I find the worst shooter I've ever played to be the first Delta Force game, from 1996. It was praised at the time for its awesome graphics and gameplay, and the voxel-based maps were certainly incredible, but crawling around with an invisible gun shooting baddies consisting of five polygons gets old after about 30 seconds.
People had imagination back then. :v:
I was playing on the Aloha US Pinpoint server yesterday and seeing the tracers from the SMGs flying through the air with the players charging underneath was one of the most beautiful things I've seen. We were so close to the blue's base that some of them switched teams and started to grief our base using the SMG. T'was very fun.
Because that's the natural progression of warfare; when you give every infantryman a purely offensive capability the trenches and bunkers start becoming too costly and useless to build since they will be quickly overwhelmed. When all there was was rifles and grenades you got a happy medium, and really the entire game should be centered around defensive gameplay because that would make it unique. Things like submachine guns only quicken the pace and make offensives easier, making defense in depth redundant. [editline]30th June 2011[/editline] If the SMG is as bad as people make it out to be right now maybe not all is lost yet, but i'm sure it will be tweaked in time.
I'm assuming you haven't actually played 0.54 yet? Not to sound like an asshole, but if you had played it, you would see that the general concept of combat in AoS hasn't changed one bit. Still massive bunkers/castles/forts, still annoying tunnelers, you've still got people digging trenches and building walls on the front lines. The reason why it hasn't changed is for the simple fact that the SMG is quite crappy by itself. It doesn't cause people to want to run-and-gun with it because they know they will get shot to pieces. You know what I've seen people using it for? A defensive gun emplacement, pretty much the complete opposite of what a SMG is meant to be used for. It's mostly used at medium to long range with a slight bit of effectiveness. As someone already said, it's a cover-fire weapon, and it quite literally "forces" teamwork on a large scale like you've never seen before.

SMG is fine, almost perfectly balanced. Really useful in some situations and shit in others. With positioning now serverside though, the hit detect is messed up and I can't get awesome 20 headshot killstreaks anymore :( seriously the rifle feels like a little bit of a random fuckfest and I've played way less AoS since the update because I just keep getting frustrated about it
Made a M82 model for the rifle. It's kinda shitty though. :frown:
I just tried this out and I love it. I happen to think the SMG fits reasonably well into the games flow, although it can often turn the tides of small combat more that past encounters. Overall I just think its a decent medium range alternative to the rifle.
I like how most firefights are long and drawn out now, a bit more realistic. What I don't like is the speed at which the SMG runs out of ammo; it either needs more, or its firing rate needs to be lowered. Either way, it's awesome. I've had some incredible battles on one of the old randomly-generated maps as well as on the aloha uswest island map. Much more immersion in the combat when there are tracers flying over your head/tearing into your bunker.

Hosted a server today to check out a map. Gave it 18 slots, I took a piss, when I came back I couldn't join my own server because it was full. [editline]30th June 2011[/editline]
Don't worry, you'll improve.
You was there, son.

I guess so.
If you want any changes to the op and whatnot, pm me. I don't read this too much anymore and I don't want to be arsed with updating the op everytime something happens. So of you have a idea to add to the op, or change in same way I'll gladly take suggestions, but they have to be by pm.

Nah, it isn't in the OP.
Hey guys, here is a link to the thread on the official AoS forums where the skinmod I am using can be found: http://ace-spades.com/forums/topic.php?id=2561#post-31972 I am using the U.S. Ordinance M60 btw Here is a picture of a few of the weapons in the pack (including the M60): Enjoy, none of these are mine by the way, not trying to give that impression.
Thanks.

Strange things happen on the Peacefarm, the location of the picture. [editline]1st July 2011[/editline] Don't judge a book by it's cover; The base seems small, but it's gigantic from the inside. We made rooms and alot of tunnels. The Green, for some reason, always took the same route. So we killed them once they appeared on the hill.
