Yes!

Downloading at 18kb/s. Are the server getting overloaded or something?
The current version is actually very playable. Shame most maps make shotgun useless.
do they still use that shitty "oh, you have to connect to their website, then connect to a server from there?"
do they still use that shitty "oh, you have to connect to their website, then connect to a server from there?"
Yeah, well, that's still there. No idea why the guy doesn't focus on a server browser instead, but apparently it's coming later.
You know what I think the game needs, after the core elements are fixed up nicely?
Vehicles. I think this could be a very nice Battlefield-ish game with very large battles and vehicle combat. I also think there needs to be specific "corpse" models depending on where the player was shot, but that's certainly not high-priority.
The new release is a lot better. All of the weapons are fairly nicely balanced (the rifle isn't shit anymore either.)
The author said that he'll introduce boats/air vehicles, but not tanks/jeeps, because he thinks it doesn't fit Vietnam theme he wants. However, it seems that he actually changed his opinion on his game towards the general WW1/WW2, so that might have changed.

Now that is good news.
Regarding vehicles, I could live without them, but I think Howitzers would be a great addition.
My list of stuff I would love to see.
-Aircraft for Dogfighting
-Aircraft with Bombs
-Placeable Artillery which is based on something similar to Project Reality[Basically blind firing]
-Satchel Charges
-Explosive Blocks[Kegs of Gunpowder]
-FoBs which act as resupply placements.

1) This basically removes players from overall battle for a single purpose.
2) Either planes would be pointless and weak or they will control the sky.
3) I'd say that direct-firing, movable canon emplacements would be better. Maybe mortars as well?
4) If it had something akin to TNT wire going from it, to the player, it would fit well.
5) Just being able to give props certain properties would be a great start.
6) Some kind of temporary resupply would be useful, I agree. At the moment, it's almost impossible to hold your position for long time, even if you ration your ammo.
How about buildable weapons? Like you could build MG Nests, Artillery Guns, FoBs, and barbed wire.
You could add the mortar man as the moving artillery piece, but the big guns which would be more about, "Building? What building?" would be stationary and would be given cords to drop arty on.
Currently working on client-side interpolation. It'll allow for network optimizations... and 64 player servers in the not too distant future
Oh god.
Haven't played this game in months, I forgot how much I loved it.
I reinstalled it, but I'm not getting any sound on Ubuntu.
Forgot how much fun this game could be. The new weapons seem to be rather balanced.
One thing I find odd in the new versions; is it no longer possible to dig or place blocks in a team's base for either team, or just one's own as griefing protection? I was going to dig a trench right to the bottom along the perimeter of the intel tower so we could see if the enemy was tunnelling underneath it, but I couldn't do shit.

Unrelated, but some of the noobs accuse me of hacking when I headshot their neon heads :v:
Old players like me are just really good with the rifleman class (after the amount of time I spend using the thing in older versions), I suppose.
[editline]5th April 2012[/editline]
They also don't seem to grasp that:
1: We can hear them digging, even when we're above ground
2: They are very visible, as are we all
3: A player's head is very big

The day/night cycle is a rather nice touch, looks amazing with SMG tracers spraying across both sides of the canyon.
You can't dig past sealevel, some servers turn destruction off.
Had a fucking awesome game as SMG. The map was a sort of WW1 trench deal, with a no-man's land consisting of a river, and shell craters on either side; and trenches and large bunkers on each teams side.
I was doing rather well as SMG, so people actually started following me. The river and shell craters meant it was actually possible to do a frontal assault without dying and meant it wasn't just a static game of trench whack-a-mole as some maps devolve into, so a few guys followed me as we advanced across no-man's land and kicked the shit out of them while 2 experienced players flanked and nabbed the intel :v:
Seeing a line of comrades advancing across the scarred land, while tracer fire whizzed overhead and grenades smashed their fortifications was a magical sight.
You can't dig past sealevel, some servers turn destruction off.
I know that, but the tower was above sealevel, and the rest of the map was destructible. I guess it was a specific server plugin to make the spawn and intel areas invulnerable.
Seen some rather odd plugins across a few servers; one of them gives you a callable airstrike (basically just a short rain of grenades) after 6 kills without dying. Got that a few times, made me feel all fuzzy inside when I was calling them in on enemy bunkers so my teammates could advance :D
[editline]5th April 2012[/editline]
The servers that turn destruction off completely are rather boring tbh. Especially when they have all these weirdly shaped structures and buildings that would look good in a rubble pile.
I remember digging a really long and deep hole right behind enemy lines, occasionally peeking my head out to pick out a few targets and then jump back into my cave. Good times.
Haven't played since forever. Glad to see this game has evolved in a good way.
Does the "Map Transfer Fail" or "Version mismatch" errors still hunt players?

Does the "Map Transfer Fail" or "Version mismatch" errors still hunt players?
Well if you're using the wrong version, then you'll get the second error (afaik all servers are up-to-date), but I have so far never gotten "Map Transfer Fail".
I get a plain error when connecting to servers that have 31/32 players, but that's because a player joined before me and it hadn't refreshed.
I remember digging a really long and deep hole right behind enemy lines, occasionally peeking my head out to pick out a few targets and then jump back into my cave. Good times.
I do that quite a lot, really bloody fun. But one generally needs to be aware that digging sounds can be heard quite far away.
Thank you for the information, I'll make sure to check it out again

"initdirectdraw failed"
WHat's that supposed to mean? And how am I supposed to fix it?
I wish this game had landmines at points. Would add a little more to the, "It's WW1 yo' " feeling.

As far as I know there are two ways (that worked for me)
Restart your PC, the problem will eventually return though.
Set the game's screen resolution to the same one as your screen, use the config file.
So I was playing AoS last night just fine (albeit without sound), and then I go to jump on a server today and I get "ERROR: Server connection failed." I'm getting this error on every single server I'm trying, regardless of how many players are on it. I'm on .75, so it can't be a version mismatch.

Just rebooted and reinstalled, still nothing.

I was just able to get in on a server with no players, so maybe it is just people joining before me. V:v:V
Hey guys! Was just wondering if any of you guys have had problems with joining servers? or have resolved the issue. About 5-10 minutes after entering the server i get an error "Server Disconnect". Would appreciate any help :D. Loving the game however!
Did you check if the server was still up after you got disconnected? How often does this happen?
When I play AoS, I don't get any sound aside from the intro guitar thing at the team selection screen. I'm running it through Wine on Ubuntu, so are there any drivers I need to fiddle with or something?
This happens every time i join a server i play on it for like 5-10 minutes then D/C. And the server is always still up because friends are on it.
Soooooo any UK based Facepunch Server?
