Ever think of the materials that plane wing is made of?
Unless it's depleted uranium, it's going to be susceptible to machinegun fire. To be fair though, I never fought against a lot of them, in your experience how much fire did it take before the wing(s?) came off?
Also, throwing in another recommendation for IL-2. I haven't played tons of it online, but there's lots of fun to be had when it comes down to aerobatics and gunnery, rather than radar and missiles. Bonus points because the graphics, while not fantastic, are fairly nice where it counts. (Which basically means all the planes look good.) More bonus points because you can purchase it for ten bucks on Steam.

A piece of lead traveling at 2,000 feet per second is going to go through the wing of a plane from World War 2, a wing is mostly hollow you know
Project reality BF2 mod flying is pretty realistic but it's not a sim.
Hahahaha, no.
Difficult does not = realistic.
Rise of Flight is kinda fun and realistic. Just needs more free planes...
Combat Flight Simulator: 3 :buddy:
Falcon 4.0? From the small taste I got of it, it's incredibly realistic and heavily moddable.
