The general view on this seems to be that people who bought it expecting a decent FPS are thrilled by it, and people who bought it expecting it to be like ARMA and the original flashpoint, with utmost realism, hate it. [editline]08:46PM[/editline] I'll wait for the demo.
Not really. As I pointed out a few pages ago, even the people who hated ArmA and were hoping this was less realistic hated this game. It's just really a crap game lol. Truth be told though, I'd buy it on xbox. If it was on special.
I own ARMA2 and just got OFP2. After playing for about an hour, I can safely say that OFP2 blows it out of the water. It's not too realistic, it's just fun on a massive scale. If you're going to buy it, go into it with an open mind and don't expect an OFP sequel.
I've been looking at this game for some time and I still can't make my mind about whether to buy it or not, it looks good and the price tag is very tempting, but I really can't tell if I'd like it

There are some great moments where I just stopped and said "holy shit that's really cool". The polish on this game alone is pretty much worth it, and I've never had a "wow" moment in arma really.
yeah, I didn't really like Arma or Arma 2 because they tried too hard to be realistic, this looked actually decent for combining simulation and game
WOW. I fucking love this game. just played powder trail mission. it was fucking awesome. and it looks soooo gorgeous on max settings. at some point it looked like real life. Impressed.
Just did the second mission, was pretty fun. The squad AI is a tad retarded but nothing a patch wont fix. Oh, the game runs MUCH better than ARMA2. I got 30fps on ARMA2 and 60 on OFP2 with it all maxed out. Glad I got the game.

If it actually had a scale close to arma 2's it would run a shit ton worse.
Facepunch seems to be the only community not ripping this game appart.
Probably because (some of us) accept the game for what it is and don't go OMG ITZ NOT OFP OMG!
So it suffers from what we call "Far Cry 2 syndrome"?
Yeah, except this time it's a good game.
Facepunch seems to be the only community not ripping this game appart.
Well many on facepuch like those disturbing RP gamemodes in gmod. And there's a large amount of furries. And children. [editline]12:47AM[/editline]
Yeah, except this time it's a good game.
If good games don't come with anything they promised
Yeah, wasn't there supposed to be dynamic destructible environments?
Got it awhile ago (PC) Is there anyway to increase the nauseating low field of view in this game? It's literally making me feel sick
I think that people are right to moan about it not being like OFP1. Imagine if they added powerups to the tracks on Grand Turismo, or let people jump 20 feet on football games. There would be an uproar. But since the people who enjoyed OFP1 were in the minority, people think that they're wrong for moaning about a more arcadey feel to the game. I'm sure they're not complaining about the game itself, just that it's cashing in on the name of the game that they do like. I'm annnoyed that they promised a huge, real time world with broken and dead stuff that stayed there for ever. I heard all of these stories about how the game is like a large version of BF2 in that there are no set missions, just a real time engagement involving thousands of troops. You'd be told to go to scout a forest, but only if you're standing in the right place at the same time. ...instead, it's just a more arcadey version of the first game. It might be more 'fun' in the short term and for console players with short attention spans, but some people enjoy crawling through a muddy field for hours on end. Those people are the ones who bought and enjoyed OFP1. They made it what it is and it's wrong to turn your back on them with OFP2. In my opinion this is what happened with Deus Ex: Invisible War, though I think it was a genuine accident. This was a deliberate attempt to increase the potential market for a series which has always been about hardcore realism. And by doing so we've lost another specialised game series to the plague of console-compatible games. The Total War series just looks better and better in my eyes for not jumping to console. Still, at least there's the ARMA series. Buggy, massive, unpolished... but still fun in the way that OFP2 will never be.
I have never played the first OF anyway, so I enjoy this one.
when is the demo coming out?
when is the demo coming out?
Never.
FUCK fuck fuck fuck
well I just ordered it anyways, $40 CAD is pretty cheap

You got that info from a very unreliable source, and that may have caused you to hype the game more then necessary.

They promised all of those things and failed to deliver, his source was directly from the mouth of the developers. If that's an unrealiable source, than it speaks volumes about codemasters...

I have always been a fan of the series and I am always looking for updates. I know that it was from a reputable source as well. Mighth ave been in the PC Gamer UK magazine at one point. Then again, it might just have been what Bohemia Interactive wanted to do, they've always been quite ambitious with their plans.
I just got the game and so far I'm having fun playing online. :)

It's funny how at the start of this thread, people were raging at me when I said this was gonna a be a piece of shit that failed to deliver on it's promises and how I was full of shit because I couldn't possibly know anything about a game thats not yet out. Now that's it released, I'm right yet again...
I'm disappointed, it isnt really much like the original ofp's :(
OFP was for a limited audience, most people won't understand why people look back at the game so fondly. How's the music in this game? I'm yet to hear anything in the Arma series that compares to the original soundtrack.
just dont think about it being an OPF game. say to yourself its not OPF and you're gonna love the game :P everyone knows the real sequel is arma 2
The engine seems a lot more polished than arma2 engine.
