Oh wow you obviously completely missed the entire point of Arma. It's okay if Arma isn't your type of game but it's far from boring and dull.
This. ArmA was never intended to be a mainstream game, and it never should be. A good handful of the people playing ArmA will never get to truly experience what it has to offer, as they never get into the community, and as such, never play anything except the horribly shite public games. There was an old saying on the BI forums, something along the lines of "It should have bene printed on the back of the box: Warning - You cannot play ArmA with people you do not know". While I think it is great that ArmAII has received alot of commercial attention and praise, Bohemia Interactive work their asses off for such a small company, I wouldn't mind at all going back to the old days. As for OFP2, in all honesty, it might actually make something of itself if a dedicated community develops for it, and if they get the mod tools they need to do so. However, now that codemasters has said there never will be any Tools released, and the fact that the file setup allows for nothing but very light scripting, they've practically fucked that in the ass.
Yeah I've fucking played it, I've reinstalled it about 10 times hoping in some vain attempt that each time I might get some fucking FUN out of it, to no avail. Crysis was intensely fascinating for the first 5 minutes, after which you realize just how dull and fucking boring the game actually is. Depends on your sense of optimization. It's BF2 level graphics with slightly superior lighting system. In that sense, it runs extremely well. On the other hand, it looks like a fried dog turd with distance rendering problems. Pick your poison.
From the pictures, it looks better than BF2. and my sense of optimization is if it'll crash on 2 GTX295's and a core i7 @ 4.2ghz. Which ARMA2 ALWAYS FUCKING DOES
In my opinion Operation Flashpoint 2 is a good game. :smug: Can't attack me now.
I wouldn't say any such thing. One of ArmA's failures that wasn't corrected until the very late 1.14+ patches was netcode was that iffy at the best of times. It was prone to a number of issues. On the other hand, with a powerful server and ideal conditions, I participated in a huge 128 players + AI event with minimal lag, albeit one that crashed about 2 and half hours into the event. But that's nothing to sneeze at. All this being said, I can't say I had severe lag all that often, infact, the only time I ever had really severe lag on ArmA 1 was back in patch 1.04 or something and I was playing on a foreign server. Problem is somehow these early netcode problems carried over to ArmA 2 somehow. I'm not going to make excuses for it, I have no idea how it happened, was another team handling ArmA bugwork while the others were developing ArmAII? I have no idea. But it will be fixed, just as it was in ArmA and just as it was in OFP before that. No. Crysis sucked balls. You can go search the dregs of the FP threads to see the many large crysis threads in which more people disliked the game than those who loved it. I never said I wasn't a ArmA fanboy. Reading comprehension fail.I said I could judge the game from a standpoint without any fanboyism whatsoever.
So Facepunch is the absolute definition of how good Crysis was? No, it's not. Crysis got 91 on metacritic, which is the average of every review score given to it. And no, due to the fact that you are a fanboy, you CAN'T judge a game from an entirely objective standpoint, BECAUSE YOU ARE A FANBOY. [editline]04:03PM[/editline]
This. Do you ever wonder why it isn't mainstream?
OFP2 is good for the general CoD4 or Halo player...

As I've already said, there are people in the tactical gaming community and the gaming community in general that dislike ArmAII strongly, and still hated this game. Do I wonder why ArmA isn't mainstream? No I don't. I don't need to. I know why it isn't mainstream. A) it's radically different to every other FPS out there, all of which at the end of the day, are cookie cutters of eachother. B) OFP/ArmA is very barely commericialized, it's essentially a repackaging of the tool they sell to the USMC, the US Army, Australian Defence Force, the Dutch Military etc etc for training. C) Until ArmAII, BI did not strongly advertise ArmA, and they still don't, even with the increased commercial success ArmAII is enjoying. Infact, that question is fucking stupid. That's the equivalent of asking "Do you ever wonder why flightsims aren't mainstream?"

By the definition of a fanboy, you can't objectively judge a game that is essentially a competitor to the one you are a fanboy of. This isn't rocket science. Also nice. You just answered for yourself why it isn't very good, and isn't mainstream. It isn't a game.

A game is an object of commercial interactive entertainment.
I'm not really seeing any direct answer that doesn't have a twinge of bias to it, so I'm just going to come out and ask. I like the following games, and play them sometimes regularly in multiplayer:

The Call of Duty series
The Battlefield series (including Bad Company)
ArmA and ArmA 2
Unreal Tournament series
Medal of Honor series
I played the original OFP through OFP: Elite which, I'll admit, isn't as great as on PC due to the limitations of the original Xbox. I don't really care how ArmA 2 is so superior because it's more massive and blah-di-blah-di-blah. I'll still play ArmA 2 regardless, because I love ArmA 2. I don't really care how OFP2 is really so much more optimized and "has better AI" or whatever other arguments are being put forth. So, here's what I want to know:

How polished is the game?
Is the game fun?
Based on the games I play (listed above), could you recommend this game?
About half and half I'd say. 2. Depends on your definiton of fun. I personally found it boring as hell. Others claim they've had fun in the multiplayer. If you enjoyed COD4 and BF2 etc and can ignore the lack of inspiration in some areas of the game, then you'll probably like it. 3. Yes. Get it for your Xbox360/PS3, and get ArmAII for your PC. Best of both worlds. EDIT: Apparently this is an biased opinion ^ :rolleye:
OFP2 is good for the general CoD4 or Halo player...
If they don't mind having their asses handed to them by a gunship, well, yeah.
So, any of you guys think there would be good mods? Also, this game needs a shitload of vehicles. But, it seems that there is a better HUD or camera for vehicles.

Do you feel better now about your tiny rottweiler-mutilated cock?
So, any of you guys think there would be good mods? Also, this game needs a shitload of vehicles. But, it seems that there is a better HUD or camera for vehicles.
Nah, codemasters made a forum for modders but hasn't promised a SDK

I've given the game a chance with every patch, but so far it hasn't been fixed yet, so I'm going to wait until a few more patches come out. So how about you go fuck yourself, okay? :)
Nah, codemasters made a forum for modders but hasn't promised a SDK
Damn, that sucked. Unless there is a TC mod that can change the gameplay in this game or add a shitload of vehicles, I might buy. Why the fuck are they delaying the fuckin demo? The game is out for christ's sake! Someone get me a source!
They promised monthly DLC tough
They promised monthly DLC tough
Yeah, hopefully it would be as good as operation Arrowhead.
Yeah, hopefully it would be as good as operation Arrowhead.
Wait... It's out!?

You can't quite grasp this concept.
Wait... It's out!?
No, not yet. But, its likely OA would be fun.
Game sucks, controls where clunky as hell and everything looks really shitty. I mean, it's just green for me.
Anyone know when the Mission editor for the consoles is supposed to be released?
Damn, i was losing on the campaign and only 1 squad nember was left. I tried to hid in a building but about 20 PLA guys started to enter it from all sides. While shooting them the guy i play started to cry, not snizzling but real crying. After 30 seconds or so the PLA got me.
Anyone know when the Mission editor for the consoles is supposed to be released?
They said that there wouldn't be any editor for the console version. Also, did the guy like, really really actually cry? Or was it something else that sounded like crying?
I find it fun in the editor if you make a bunch of bad guys and give them no ammo, they chase you with knives, kinda like zombies.
Ignoring the shitstorm above between fanboys and idiots, and the occasional person who is thinking. Played it round a friends for a bit today, it's good fun and a nice change from the "l0l I sray @ u" of CoD. The controls were a bit iffy, but the combat is fairly decent, the Ps3 version looks okay, not top of the line awesome, but pretty damn nice still. Had a go at the second mission, problem is my friends left me at the first checkpoint you reach, stood upright, right as a helicopter was passing over. Got killed multiple times by that, finally figured out which direction it came from, got pissed at it, and shot the bastard down with my M4A1. At first I saw it slow down, I thought it was slowing to turn and come back, then suddenly the blades locked up and it just plummeted from the sky, I couldn't help but say "Fuck yeah :smug:". Walked a couple hundred meters or so forward to the now demolished objective, enemies a couple hundred meters away, that kind of crap. Luckily my friends had a gun with a infrared scope, made picking out the baddies easier. I liked the shooting, as I am able to predict bullet drop and trajectory really well, I was getting the enemies with headshots over various distances while they were running around trying to get forward. Was pleased with that. Panted the C4 on the artillery, ran like a fucker, blew it up, killed my Medic (fuck). Ran towards objective two, almost made it there, then the 5 minutes until the gunships arrival was up, and I was pretty much screwed. If you can ignore some of the problems in this game, it is incredibly fun to play, nerve wracking at times when you know theres a enemy, but you are having a hard time locating him, and he is slowly killing your squad. I'd give it about 7/10, it is ridiculously hard to get around when you have to basically stop to tell your squad to move. And sometimes enemies just seem to appear around me for no real reason...
Damn, i was losing on the campaign and only 1 squad nember was left. I tried to hid in a building but about 20 PLA guys started to enter it from all sides. I had enemies all around me at one point and no team left (forgot to call them back from their position after launching a artillery strike). He just seemed to be really fucking angry...
How the fuck do I call fire support from the binocs? I always seem to have to use my C4.
