If you play PC games: Get ArmA or OFP; much better games.
If you play consoles: OFP2 will be fun as hell.
Just played this on XBox, it's good fun. It didn't feel as gritty and realistic as Arma 2, but not as Arcadey as Call of Duty. I really liked it :) I might get it on PC, depends if I can get said mate to do the same.
Mission editor is fun to play around with, I really hope they release an actual modding SDK though. The Lua would be fun as hell to mess around with, and I'd like to make it so you can select your squad and equipment prior to entering combat.
I think I still have the Operation Flashpoint GOTY with Cold War Crisis, Red Hammer and Resistance.
I sucked terribly and had no idea what the fuck was going on when I played and died all the time. Perhaps I can figure it out now
It's okay, it's like a more main-stream version of ARMA
[editline]06:50PM[/editline]
Stop comparing this to ArmA, it's pretty obvious at this point that Op-Flashpoint has completely different goals in terms of gameplay.
Than why is it built on a similar engine/style using those same ol robotic voices and targeting system and all that junk.
None the less, it's basically a main streamed ARMA with no full body.
If it's so different, it shouldn't remind me of OFP/ARMA
*then
Anyway, I'm going to fuck around in the mission editor.
the graphics in this game suck, looks like those screenies were renders, and its probably cause of the consoles the games graphics were never what I would expect a 2009 PC game would look like :crying:

Absolutely no.
This game only has its name and theme in common with Operation Flashpoint.

Stop blaming the consoles for the lack of skill on the developers end.
The console isn't a living entity, anything is up to the developers.
[editline]04:26PM[/editline]
It's funny, this game would have actually made a great sequel to Ghost Recon.

And its the developers fault that they didn't do anything about the PC side.

Yeah it is...
I don't even know what the point of that was.

they know everybody (well a big part) that buy buys it has played the original OPF and ArmA, they are all PC users (except for one or two, there was opf for xbox i think). Yet they still didn't do much. No dedicated server... oh god

Yeah that's my point.
The existence of the game being ported to consoles doesn't make it automatically lose the dedicated server option. There are tons of PC console port games that have dedicated server options.
You're just blaming the consoles in such a stupid way that it needs mention.
So, what I understand the gameplay is like Project Reality, but with a bigger map. How accurate is this assumption?
So, what I understand the gameplay is like Project Reality, but with a bigger map. How accurate is this assumption?
Not very accurate at all. Project reality is alot more harsh, and infact, is on a bigger and more indepth scale. Personally I'd also say PR is more realistic (despite the deviation, which is there because BF2 can't have weapon sway etc) and extremely team orientated. If you try to do shit alone in PR you usually get fucked up.
OFP2, on the other hand, it's not uncommon for fags you're playing with to go "hurf durf Imma go to the objective while youse are fighting and take out a fortified position by mahself".
Yeah that's my point.

Not this game. You're missing the whole point.

Just get ArmA 2 if you haven't already, and don't buy it on PC. Wait for a good game to come out.
FFFFF- rage.
This game is even worse than I said it was before. Fucking AI can see through foliage, and, I'm starting to suspect the same of buildings. Also, come within 50 meters of any AI unit, no matter how quiet you move, and they'll automatically detect you. Get fucked Codemasters.
This game is just terrible, the AI can see through foliage, it doesn't act as any form of occluder to AI. Hell even in multiplayer the foliage disappears after a certain distance, no sprites, nothing. So players will duck in the shrubs thinking they are hidden only to be completely visible to any enemy snipers.
The AI are god mode AI, they can see you under any circumstance. Completely enveloped in smoke? Too bad, they know exactly where you are.
God damn, it's companies that release a watered down version of something that eventually fail in the end. Just a bunch of sell outs who want to make a quick buck from console users and fuck the PC users in the asshole.
Yeah very annoyed that they can see through smoke, played that beach assault mission from campaign where the AAVP's smoke the beach and still getting shot at, though there pretty lousy shots but they get lucky sometimes, this is on experienced difficulty though not hardcore.
I found you can sneak up quite close to within about 4m or 5m, then they turn around this was under the cover of night which the moon makes it look like day anyway and stealth mission.
There reaction time is damn quick aswell, you need to shoot at exact same time if 2 enemy are right next to each other. There's no, WTF just happened to my buddy moment or they don't duck, they turn around and boom headshot really god damn quickly.

Never had this problem, pulled ambushes off on enemies without them seeing me.

I've never had the problem of the AI being able to see through foliage.
Also if the sniper is shooting at you, and he sees you hide behind a bush, he isn't going to go "HURF DURF WHERE DID HE GO?!"

I'll agree to that, they are damn quick at realising one of their friends just got popped.
ArmA 2s is actually is getting much better via the patches, and that's typical BIS - a buggy shit release that looks like a beta, but then grows into a awesome game.. But codemasters? They usually release their games pretty polished and nice, but I've ran into a lot of problems with the AI.
HOWEVER
I had a fucking BLAST in the editor last night.
I had a LAN party 2 days ago and my game shipped right when I was about to leave, so when I arrived over there I installed it. At first I thought it was kinda boring, a bit disappointed, but then I got a few people to play coop and it was a blast, one of the awesomest thing I've experienced. Had hilarious moments like in that beach mission, my friend was hiding behind a small stonewall, he peaked over to see the enemies and he got shot by an APC. I wanted to see if he was only incapacitated but then I noticed, not only was he shot in the head, HIS HEAD WAS FUCKING RIPPED APART WITH HIS WHOLE BRAIN EXPOSED
amazing
lol
I hate when I've got a whole US marine platoon behind my chopper, and as I start the engines, the back rotor cuts up 50+ men. I
if anybody is interested in the locked levels, these are the codes you can enter to unlock the levels
OFPWEB1
OFPWEB2
BLEEDINGBADLY
RaidT18Z
StrongM577
CloseQ8M3
AmbushU454
So I played this today, and I have to say I'm disappointed.

:rolleye: I don't need your cop-out argument, I know for a fact there are no viewblock objects on the foliage, hence why the AI can see through them.
I think Bohemia should steal one of Codemaster's non copyrighted names, and make the game similar, but without a soul, as OFP2 is.
[editline]01:27AM[/editline]
I know it wouldn't happen, but it is a thought.

Its basically a really dumbed down version of Arma with a smaller scale

Shame how the AI can see through the grass in ArmA too, if it bugs you that much.
I have played this yesterday aswell. Not what I expected really. I think the game it self is pretty good, not much bugs, terriffic sound and generally decent graphics and gameplay.
But it just doesn't feel like this game was made for the pc in the first place. More arcade like game rather then a simulator fps.
