It looked a lot like BF:Bad Company to me, for some reason.
Maybe it's the film grain.
I don't see what realism has to do with your gamepad. Last I checked, a mouse with keys isn't realistic at all.
It feels like realistic FPS games need a lot of keys for all the stuff.
I hope the camera movement in the tech demo will be so in the console version of the game, because I like the way you have a small box were your screen doesn't move like in OFP and ArmA.

Game dev's are just lazy and don't want to come up with intuitive control schemes so they just map shit to everything.

Yeah, you know, I never figured that out. How's that realistic. How do you aim when the gun's pointing off the screen. In RO it's kind of interesting but in OFP it was really just too much. I'm glad they added a setting for that in ArmA.
Haha, yeah PS3 players experienced it with the Killzone 2 demo.
Anyhow, OP2's lightning system looks fucking incredible!

I think it is supposed to simulate the fact that you don't need to turn your entire body just to aim a gun, and that you only need to move your arms alittle
Oh and OFP2 looks alot better then ArmA2 still thinking about which to get.

Experienced what?
OFP2 looks like it's shaping up to be ArmA for pussies.

That's a bad thing?
While I'd love to put hours and hours into ArmA, I would also like a game that had similar features but that was far less demanding on my schedule. I don't want a game that I can only play on the weekend, but rather one I can play an hour or two a day and encounter some hard hitting action.

ArmA is a game that is hard but not in a time consuming dwarf fortress kind of way. The only really hard to learn part about it is getting used to the fact that it plays completely differently to other FPS games. Once you get the concept behind it it's very easy to pick up and play and thanks to the easy to use mission editor it's really easy to make or download a mission that immediately gets you into some action.
And really, the main reason I play ArmA is for the challenge. Not many games these days can deliver such gameplay where one wrong move can get you killed, yet still a good player can cause incredible havoc.
And sometimes you can cause all of that havoc without firing a single shot.
Will we be able to use TrackIR with this game like we could with Arma?

no

I played ArmA and it sucks dick. You can't aim because your gun is always pointing offscreen and only 4 bad guys a mission that your robotic teammates kill because you had to order them to go ahead of you 300 feet away because if you get any closer you get shot in the face while they spam sensless acknowlement that only a guy with a compass would understand.

That's what I mean with "the hard part is getting used to it".
Also film grain in a game that's supposed to simulate being in a war is hilarious.

The film grain is pretty nice actually, like only you would notice if you look hard enough instead of bad company.

It's more of an unwelcome graphics trend like bloom and motion blur and single-colouredness.

Yeah, and also like polygons.

what kind of a comparison is that?
Good thing we tactinerds will make any realistic shooter last longer if given the proper SDK tools.
If ArmA 2 has grunge brushed textures, how did they do the camo patterns on the infantry?
Anyways, the PLA just switched to a new digi-camo pattern. It would be nice to see this implemented, as they originally texture mapped the Marines with woodlands in the beginning before any videos were shown.
no amount of SDK tools BIS dishes out will improve optimization, nor will it remove the horrendous amount of bullshit such as over-encumbered controls which any player are incapable of using. what's arma and ofp's mods consist of? vehicles, guns and new units? wow. some improvements right there
obviously arma will last because it's the only game in its competition. why hasn't anyone else touched this turf? pff - they won't make money off of it. ofp will appeal to the general consumer and the casual gamer, which means it will be fun for everyone despite minor drawbacks (oh no! the marines don't pile out of their IFV according to military standards! let me bitch about that while my game's controls don't even work)
Controls don't work? Sounds like somebody sucks at ArmA!
i am the proest pro at arma that there will ever be. i'm so pro, in fact, that i made multiple tactical units disband. that is how pro i am. if i'm so pro, i obviously have to know how the controls work
now, in relevance; cqb in real life is not that hard. i should be able to turn to my target and lay down a burst of fire and hit him with ease. with arma, i have to go the extra mile of STRAFING because when i turn, i fucking pivot two feet from where i initially was like i am mounting a turret on a humvee even though i am clearly standing behind a pillar. you also can't tell me that you haven't fallen off of a roof because of this (especially when prone). oh, let's not even bring in the fact the the latency of the movement - or to be more exact, the fact you have to let the animation "warm up." am I a car?

and how is this relevant to my argument? oh. right. it isn't. oh, and if they were, they'd still be bullshit because they don't seem to be fixing the game at all. in fact, they add more unnecessary bullshit than what is needed

Maybe you pivot BECAUSE you strafe 'cause I don't. I have never ever fallen off something or been moved into the line of fire by rotating. You're making shit up.
And about the "warm up", imagine you're carrying all kinds of crap on you like a flak jacket, ammunition, food, grenades and all sorts of other stuff while holding a gun that weighs around 3 kilograms. Now imagine you'd have to do all kinds of moves like the ones you see in ArmA. Tell me that isn't tricky.
You just got killed in ArmA a few times too much because you don't understand it. Your inability to grasp the gameplay has made you decide the problem is not with you but with ArmA. That is all.
I have a few questions about the first operation flashpoint and the first arma (since they are both in the same game category).Which one of the two is better? Which one has the bigest online population? How large is the learning curve?

ArmA is in essence an improved OFP, so it's better and has the bigger community.
The learning curve depends entirely on your playstyle in other FPS games. The more reckless you are the harder you'll find it is.

In terms of numbers how large is the community?
