You best be shitting me.
ArmA is the true successor to OFP1. Bohemia interactive made OFP1, they also made ArmA, and are gonna release ArmA2 soon. Make no mistake that ArmA2 will be the true OFP2 (Arma 1 was good, but thoroughly unpolished. Felt like OFP 1.5). Codemasters has the rights to the name as they published OFP, so obviously they act as if they made OFP, and they didn't. In all the videos they always say "in OFP we did blah blah" Who the fuck is "we"? they didn't do fuck all as far as OFP went. They are just trying to steal what little spotlight that ArmA2 has, all the while flinging feces all over the OFP name. That's part of the reason I am loosing more interest in OFP2. I will probably buy it; as most games suck right now, and I'm sure even if OFP2 doesn't live up to the OFP name, it will still be decent, if not good.
if it was called anything else i'm sure you would love it
the only reason the OFP name is slapped on there is because it will entice more buyers. "oh, this is a sequel?" or "wow, the first one was pretty cool! i wonder if they've expanded on the idea" are the primary thoughts in the buyers' head
example, people are sick and tired of ww2 games but the second call of duty is slapped on to the title, it sells big time. you're buying the title at the end of the day, regardless of the quality or style
I don't agree. It's like in GTA4: A bunch of retards can't learn to aim for themselves so they turn on autoaim, and everybody who can, does it online. Which gives them a big advantage over the people who prefer free aiming.
Auto-aim has no place in OFP2 and it isn't what I'm talking about. I mean the very basics, such as knowing what I'm carrying without having to use free look or the third person camera (or just free look if the Codemasters forum-goers get their way) to see whether I'm running out of ammo and how I should change my tactics accordingly.
Whether they like it or not, you need some kind of interface with this kind of game. It's essential to commanding a squad as it gives you a brief of what your men are doing and where they need to be going. It's also useful with vehicles, such as the HUD being a way to simplify the information being shown on aircraft dashboards (by prioritising the most important information like altitude, vehicle integrity and fuel).

you mean any kind of game
First image looked like a photograph.
I don't see why people are bitching about the graphics and comparing it to bf2 on high
Battlefield 2

Operation Flashpoint 2

That OFP2 pic is pre-rendered so it isn't ingame.
OFP2 looks like BF2 and Bad Company without bloom.

I like the way RnL mod does it. Absolutely no HUD, but middle mouse button brings up a pop-in inventory to show you your mag+grenades.

All the CoDs play exactly the same.
If OFP:2 was called anything else I would probably dislike it, in fact I wouldn't even buy it. The only reason I am buying it is on the off-chance it plays like a real OFP sequel would. I havn't really seen anything I liked or found refreshing yet, the name wouldn't make a difference. The name and their attitude towards it just shows their true colors. Which is what I was getting at if you would actually read the post.
Watch your blood pressure mate, all the raging and ranting you've been doing.
Calm the fuck down and realise that people are entitled to their own opinions.
And okay, I haven't rooted through the thread, but who's to say that you're the military figure you claim to be?
And yeah, OFP2 doesn't look bad, but I'd much rather play ArmA 2, ArmA one has provided me countless buckets of fun, especially with D. Murphy Man's Quarantine game mode (Zombie survival ftw) and the Project RACS addons
I'll rage and rant all I want thanks. That's me. That's my choice.
People are entitled to their own opinions, that doesn't stop them from being wrong. Yes, get over it, I am a asshole.
Note that I never claimed to be anything, other than an asshole. The person you are thinking of is Bug Rules, who is claiming to be a military contractor, and is now avoiding the fact that I've proved he isn't.
My point still stands, all codemasters have achieved with OFP2, is stealing the name, destroying the original's spirit, failing on delivering promised features and making a game with the graphical fidelity of BF2. Yay.
Also @ bobsters:
That BF2 pic you posted is BF2 on low settings. The OFP2 pic you posted is a PRE-RENDERED SCENE. Thanks for further spreading propaganda.
I've been hearing OFP2 will be more arcadey, I might get it rather than ArmA 2..
It'll be more accessible, but I hope still inaccessible to 8 year olds.
It'll be more accessible, but I hope still inaccessible to 8 year olds.
That'll be nice, it's one of the problems I have with OFP and ArmA, I enjoy them because they're good games but I hate them because it's so hard to see enemies and then successfuly kill them.

You don't like plaything with this?;

This we can agree on.
Blah Blah more ranting bullshit
Seriously dude calm the fuck down, i'll say my opinion if i want and i don't see how i am wrong.
If you like a game that i don't then what you are saying is i am wrong because i don't like what you like.
Pull your head out of the fucking drain, game picture = propaganda? what ? its a game not an army being rallied by its government.

I gathered that lol, it just annoys me how he got pissed at some other dude ( i agree that guy did bullshit about being a military contractor) but then he basically carried his annoyed rage through the thread and placed on people because they have an opinion i different to his.
Anyway...
I was reading about the scale size of the map and it should crazy,
something like a 250kilometer map scale
would take:
*days to run it
*about 5 hours to drive it or something
*an hour or 2 in a chopper
*15 minutes in a jet.
That is crazy, I'd be happy if that was the only map because there is so much on it, that you'd find somany new things.

What I've always found strange is that ArmA 1 has a bigger map (400 square kilometers) which takes less than 15 minutes with a jet.
So logically the island must be really thin or something

Just note that the demo is a really early version and some very important stuff (like gunsights) are done better in the new versions
And the patches make it run ALOT better for me.

Oh ok, ill take a look at videos and screenys of ArmA and ArmA 2.
Meh, they said it's going to be more arcade-styled, if it is true, I'll probably get ArmA.
If not I'll get this one for sure.

They said it's 250 kilometers long. So if it's like 250 km X 100 km, the map would be 25000 square kilometres.

Now that would be insane.
I'd love a game that's similiar to BF2, since Dice won't develop shit I think this will be a good timekiller until Dice release a decent modern combat game that isn't BF2.
Edit: To be honest I like the look of OPF2 to A2, looks cleaner and less clunky.

Yea, they are making a Battlefield Bad Company 2, it is set in the winter from what i saw on the pics.
Also i have to agree i watched the videos on Arma2 and i have to say this, (this cant be biased as i have played neither OF1 or ArmA) that OF2 looks alot more fun.
Man I'll be loving this game so much. Let's just hope we'll have driveable A10 Warthog, M1A2 Abrams, AH-1W Super Cobra.
