This is making me want to reinstall ARMA, Patch it, and play. TOo bad the online is full of shitty "blue" mods.
EDIT: I'll probably purchase this for console splitscreen with friends, and ArmA for a more serious experience.
looks like next gen bf2
Why are you guys talking about Arma in a OF2 thread.
They're comparing ArmA2 to OFP2, with good reason.
I can't stand ARMA cause the animations are still like robots. They still use the original animations from operation flashpoint 1 it seems. And the AI is horrible. They still run and stop and turn 45 degrees then run and stop repeating this process in a zig zag motion.
Personally I don't get why people flame this vs ArmA, and also those who think this is the ultimate military simulator.
ArmA 2 will be more realisitc. There.
Operation Flashpoint is more accessible.
End of discussion.

The whole bit that makes Flashpoint 2 so controversial is that the Flashpoint/ArmA series built its reputation on unforgiving gameplay. Making flashpoint easy is just fucking stupid.
Guys, do you really have to argue about OFP 2 and ArmA 2? It's not like you can't buy both of them.

Why would you want to buy both.
They are two directly competing titles. It's completely unfair that OFP2 is going to get away with not only the name of the series, but because BI isn't as anal about marketing, they're also going to get the cash cow, in what will be a woefully inferior game to ArmA2.

Damn man, where did you get the complete versions of Arma 2 and OFP 2 from?

I might just buy both to piss you off/sarcasm, its competition between business of course ideas/styles and other things are going to be copied. It is how businesses work, you think Apple or Microsoft got by with their own ideas?
Why can't people just drop the whole damn argument its a freaking game not an invention that will save us from global warming and put man on fucking Mars.
ITT we should talk about OF : DR not ArmA2, im sure there is a thread for ArmA2.
They're comparing ArmA2 to OFP2, with good reason.
Seems more like stupid nit picking.
They both look awesome. I'll probably get both.
I just want them to have damn ragdoll physics instead of stiff death animations.
As long as this game has adequate camo, great, stable control, and overall kickass gameplay, I'm happy. Hopefully it can run on multi-core and single core systems to gain more money to make more kickass games.

Arma 2 is not going to have ragdoll physics.
Arma 2 is not going to have ragdoll physics.
With good reason.
Spawn 15 ragdolls in gmod. Now imagine the lag you get multiplied by an absurd amount cause of ArmA2's general shit ton of units on the map. Now add the factor of the view distance. Now, remember that all ragdolls would have to be server side so you can still use them as cover and so that nobody somehow loots a gun from a dead guy that's dozens of meters away. ArmA's scale doesn't allow ragdoll support, and if OFP2 has them it's just more proof that it'll be half-assed and not a true sequel.
Ragdoll = overused, overrated, and has never looked that good in the first place. HL2 was pretty much the only game to get it to work right, and even then it's still shit.
Supose i am going to wait this. Also i am going to hope that they include AH-1 Super cobra now that is cool chopter.
Supose i am going to wait this. Also i am going to hope that they include AH-1 Super cobra now that is cool chopter.
Or you could just get it in a mod.

that chopper is in every damn game with a modern military theme and drivable vehicles
I bet both ArmA2 and OFP2 are going to require quad-cores and cutting edge graphic cards. The real fun in the prequels was that you could play with 50+ people. It felt like a real battleground.
Do you really think in either sequel, even with cutting edge hardware, we will be able to play with 50+ others?
Seems more like stupid nit picking.
More like:
Idiot talks about how OFP2 is shit, because Codemasters stole the name, and they can't make games worth shit. Then some people attempt to defend OPF2, then it spirals down to nit picking.

I know that in ArmA, a week after launch, I was playing in 50+ player servers. I don't see why OFP 2 or ArmA 2 would be any different.
Anyone else want to pipe in on this one? I don't have any actual experience with computer specs or technical shit.

I've played 128 player games in ArmA before. Shouldn't be too hard for ArmA 2 to have such numbers too.
I realize this is possible in ArmA. My point is: Do you really think this is going to be possible with the new graphic engines?
I realize this is possible in ArmA. My point is: Do you really think this is going to be possible with the new graphic engines?
Sure, why not?
Sure, why not?
Because new graphical engines are often more demanding???? Rendering the highly detailed models and environments in both OFP2 and ARMA2 is going to require an extremely powerful system if matches are going to have 50+ players.
I remember the developers of Age of Conan bragging about how their game supported battles with 200 players. The game ran fine on my system (45+ fps) with most options turned up when there was around a dozen players running around on-screen. However, once 20+ were on screen, running around, spamming attacks and spells, my frame rate would drop to almost unplayable levels.
Will either game use the shitty Conan engine? No, of course not. But this kind of things is not uncommon with many new games. They run great until a bunch of people are on the screen at once blowing shit up. ArmA and OFP are more like military sims and its not common to find 20+ players in the same spot shooting each other. However, I've played many arma matches where the action would often center around a few pivotal points. A few tanks on screen blasting the shit out of everything can really hurt the frame-rate.

To me it just looks as if they used the same models and edited them a little bit (Like the humvee) and made new skins in Arma 2 and added some better post-processing. Doesn't look like it will be THAT demanding.
To be honest I am dissapointed in OFP2's graphics. You have to admit we were promised better.
EDIT:
After a look on the OFP2 website, I take that back. GO OFP!

To me, it looks like BF2 with a little mix with Bad Company. Sexy but not the best. I'm not saying it as a bad thing. I honestly would hope the graphics would not be THAT good because otherwise, the game wouldn't be playable for people with bad systems unless they optimize it.
