that chopper is in every damn game with a modern military theme and drivable vehicles
So what? Now the super cobras are almost as good as the apaches. And apaches are fugly while Cobra is teh secks.
I love the design of apaches :P
Because new graphical engines are often more demanding???? Rendering the highly detailed models and environments in both OFP2 and ARMA2 is going to require an extremely powerful system if matches are going to have 50+ players. I remember the developers of Age of Conan bragging about how their game supported battles with 200 players. The game ran fine on my system (45+ fps) with most options turned up when there was around a dozen players running around on-screen. However, once 20+ were on screen, running around, spamming attacks and spells, my frame rate would drop to almost unplayable levels. Will either game use the shitty Conan engine? No, of course not. But this kind of things is not uncommon with many new games. They run great until a bunch of people are on the screen at once blowing shit up. ArmA and OFP are more like military sims and its not common to find 20+ players in the same spot shooting each other. However, I've played many arma matches where the action would often center around a few pivotal points. A few tanks on screen blasting the shit out of everything can really hurt the frame-rate.
I can look at like 300 people in ArmA 1 at once. Why wouldn't 50 be possible in ArmA 2? You don't see everyone on the server at the same time either.

Nothing more; nothing less. There's companies that make games for the entertainment value and then there's companies that make games to make a profit. Most of them are #2, but BIS isn't one of them (they make games for the military so they can slap on high prices anyway. good market move) Codemasters isn't really the bad guy by tainting the OFP title - they're just using the title as a marketing tool
Ragdoll = overused, overrated, and has never looked that good in the first place. HL2 was pretty much the only game to get it to work right, and even then it's still shit.
Actually CoD4 nailed it for me.
COD4 has limited ragdolls, the ragdolls have set places to fall over, etc.

OFP was made entirely by BIS and Codemasters only published it. They also claim it's "the return of a genre defining series" when the gameplay is CONFIRMED to be nothing like OFP. Also contract-wise Codemasters does NOT have the right to make a sequel, but they do have the rights for the name. Strange but true. According to BIS the contract says only they have the right to make a sequel, but it may not have the flashopoint name.
They paid for the name, they'd be stupid not to use it.
They still broke the license agreement. Edit: How dare you quote an old version of my post
To be honest I am dissapointed in OFP2's graphics. You have to admit we were promised better. EDIT: After a look on the OFP2 website, I take that back. GO OFP!
You were promised better. They did not deliver. The graphics plastered on OFP2 website are PRE-RENDERED and EDITED.
Sorry for the big ass bump, but will this game actually have ragdolls system? And is the editor like the Arma 2 editor? And how many vehicles will there be?
Sorry for the big ass bump, but will this game actually have ragdolls system? And is the editor like the Arma 2 editor? And how many vehicles will there be?
According to Wikipedia, the editor is real time. I didn't bother to look at their source though.
From what I understand is the Editor will be just like Arma 2, Arma, and the original OFP, with a few minor differences, one of them being you can change things on the fly in-game while not aborting the mission to change it, then reloading OFP, Arma and Arma 2 have no ragdolls, But do have nicely animated Deaths (Except when a body goes flying due to being on top of an explosive) .. I'd like to hope there are Ragdolls for when a body tumbles through the air, but if not, OFP And Arma death Animations have always been pretty good, and similar to each other

It pretty much came down to a choice: "Do you want get more attention and sales or not?" They would've been really stupid if they didn't use the license. I like the game for what it is, not what it is trying to be. Way too often do I hear people say "Well in ArmA2 this was done like that blah blah". Why are they comparing OFP2 to ArmA2 in a way that would make ArmA2 seem like the most realistic game ever? ArmA2 is realistic, yes, but it is not something that every other realistic FPS should copy.
OFP2 will not be a realistic FPS.
Uhhuh [editline]06:09PM[/editline] Define realistic
In my idea, it's gonna be realistic but not to the point of the original OFP or ArmA so if they had not have called it Operation Flashpoint 2 just to get lots of hype then it could be a great game and wouldn't get nearly as much hate.
Why does professional act like he has played the game
Because he HAS.
Holy crap! the graphics of the images :D
This game hopefully will run better than Arma 2, because for me Arma 2 had some REALLY shit performance.
Are they still keeping those ridiculous daytime muzzle flash effects?
sue eGO for copyrights
Arma 2 is great and all but (classic Bohemia Interactive) it lacks a bit of polish (polish like spit and shine polish, not Poland polish) For example when a mounted machine gun is realoaded, the magazine dissapears and then a new one appears and your guy doens't even move his hands. I know it's just me being a bit of a graphics whore, and function over beauty and all that. But it just helps complete the illusion for me, so graphics are a large part of making a game seem "realistic" OFP2 seems to have this much desired polish that I desire. I'm not saying that this is better game than arma 2, I'm just saying it looks a little nicer, and for me at least, graphics are almost as important as gameplay when it comes to making a game "realistic".
Not much people are gonna get this. Most people are fucking stupid and are gonna be like FUCK THAT I WANT MODERN WARFARE 2!
I'm getting MW2 over this heap of shit.
Not much people are gonna get this. Most people are fucking stupid and are gonna be like FUCK THAT I WANT MODERN WARFARE 2!
And those that actually want a realistic military large scale sim-feel for a game are going to go for ArmA2
Argh. I know if I buy this for PC I won't get the same experience just because everything I do on my computer is limited by what it can handle. I was originally gonna get it for the PS3 but it seems like it's going to be scaled down for the PS3 :(. [editline]10:32PM[/editline]
Not much people are gonna get this. Most people are fucking stupid and are gonna be like FUCK THAT I WANT MODERN WARFARE 2!
The general public yes. But I want both...this looks a little bit more of a sim, but they always advertise things like that. Arma2 is the first game I've really encountered that actually was that frustratingly realistic.
I have a feeling that because this is going to be released on consoles (not trying to sound elitist here) it won't be any good. One of the best things about OFP, ARMA and ARMA 2 are the mods and modding capability. By releasing it on console, they are severely limiting the community. Also, most console players are much more oriented toward mindless games, not deep tactical sims like OFP. Although this shouldn't be a problem for PC, if they make the game the same on all systems, it will be dumbed down for consoles, then the PC version will suffer as well.
