Looks like it was linked to on the gamefaqs and gamespot boards. Might explain the number of people.
How do you get to visit valve?
Walk into their offices. They have a policy of always giving a tour to fans who are dedicated enough to visit.
Your awesone.
Thanks for all this info, this is stuff the press hasn't gotten for years!
Q:What's the deal with Ricochet, anyway?
RW: *Nervous laughter* Um... Well... Let me put it this way, I was one of the original developers, and I don't remember it so well. Anyway, we noticed something. If you release a game after working on it for two years, you'll get X sales. However, if you release a complete game after working on it for a single year, then spend the second year iteratively developing it and getting feedback from players, you'll both create a better game and have more sales. [4] The question then became "How far can we push this?" So they decided to make the smallest team with the shortest timeframe possible. It was Robin Walker and two other guys. Then, they were going to iterate for as long as possible until they made a fully-fledged, amazing game. Part one resulted in Ricochet. Part two got kicked in the head for a reason that even Robin can't remember. Robin's hand in the game has become a running joke among employees. [5]
So it's the exact same model that TF2 has, only in this case it worked.
Awesome.

I must find these so called offices and spycrab my way inside them, to prove i'm worthy of a guided tour of the deep insides of developer heaven.
Gawd I'd love to visit Valve.
If not valve it would be blizzard.
I have to say that the pyro, soldier, and especially the medic look incredible in those pictures
So this is all pretty awesome. Now, I have to ask myself why I'm not in Washington. >:C
ohoho man valve just gets more cool by the minute. someone better install a pressure release before we all explode due to awesome overflow.
Oh I gotta request a T-shirt!
Just a question. Why didn't you take any pictures of the staff? Like holding hands with them and stuff.
Just a question. Why didn't you take any pictures of the staff? Like holding hands with them and stuff.
And with pretty rainbows in the background?
What if we gather a group of ~100 people and just storm in looking for information.
We could have masks and everything!

Same reason I haven't said anything about the concept art for the new Valve IP I saw. No pictures past the lobby, and words don't describe the awesomeness.

What... new IP? Quit taunting me with your knowledge!!
Why are there 190 people reading this now?
Did someone invite the Steam forums again or something?
Haha, my bad. :P

Info about Portal 2/Engie update:
I heard ONE thing from Robin Walker about the Engie update. No dates, nothing like that. But apparently, when they released the engie video, a lot of people noticed a prop in the background. It was added just as clutter, some random item that might be found in the engie's room, but people made so much speculation about it, they went and implemented it. I have no idea what it is or what it does, but something in that video will become an item, but only because people predicted it will be an item. O.o
Also, I saw scrawled on a whiteboard somewhere "Paint can be applied to physics objects -- complete". I assume they're talking about Portal 2.

I looked at the Meet the Engie vid again, and the only thing I saw in it that isn't already in the game is that kill-counter. Unless...
Yup. Engie's getting a truck.
OP, next time you go. Ask Gabe if he would release a Half-Life 2 Beta retail that was non-canon. I'd love to play the Beta storyline.

He's talking about the "coming soon" video ;)

i doubt they make visitors sign those contracts that forbid you from saying anything
i doubt they make visitors sign those contracts that forbid you from saying anything
Of course not. Revealing any more about such agreements would break the NDA I signed.
I should really go there as its not far from where I live, probably a 1 day ride.
Did you ask what Chet does?
Did you ask what Chet does?
No, but I'm planning to send an email to Gabe/Robin in order to ask some of the questions I wasn't able to in time. If anyone else has questions to ask, let me know.
I found this thread to be really awesome, I'm surprised that more people haven't posted in here. I suppose those are the people looking for release dates or info on things instead of what Valve is...
Anyway, I have a few more questions.
Does Valve actually work on the weekend?
For Gabe: How well does he think Valve adjusts to its growing popularity and its role as, essentially, a role model for other established or aspiring developers?
For Robin himself and the TF2 team: If there was any one thing they could add or take away from Team Fortress 2, what would it be?
Ask whoever: what Chet does
Ask whoever: What do Valve think of the modding community and do they play mods that are submitted to them?
Ask whoever: With such an old engine, what really made valve want to upgrade their older engine one to make the beautiful engine (modification) Portal 2 seems to be running on, I understand it's to keep up with the current market, but what else?
Ask Whoever: Do you think Portal 2 will effect mods/ older half life maps running on that engine in any way.
Also when we get the new engine for Episode three in 2015, Gmod will be redundant, the maps, the mods, the tools... everything, it will be...
Beautiful.

I can answer some of those. Valve is actually very heavy into the modding community. CS, TF, L4D, and DoD all originally came from mods to source games. They play mods regularly, but it's not like they play every mod.
Actually, the engine Portal 2 is running on is the same good old Source engine we all know and love. It's just got a few new features in it. For that reason, it shouldn't affect older mods.
I'll still ask them, these are just my jabs at the answers.
Anyone: Are you going to pickup Prospero (a game that was being worked on sometime after Half-Life 1) anytime in the future?
Anyone: What gave you the idea for the G-man? How did you come up with his mysterious, yet somewhat sinister personality?
Gabe: Do you still have the Ringo wig?
Anyone: Can you please make an Opposing Force shirt?

If you want to request a shirt, send it to store@valvesoftware.com I suggest you ask for a Ricochet Tshirt as well. :D
