One of his notable heroes is actually Alchemist. It's only notable because he broke the 1k GPM mark in a pro game before Alchemist's recent buffs, not because he plays him often.

This.... This scares me.
A lot.
The good news is he probably only plays the Asian servers.
oh no, i'm not prepared for him
Ok so I got gifted this and am completely new, any tips?

Start out in bot games. Learn to look at the minimap. Be aware of when enemy heroes are missing from the minimap, as they may be wandering around the map looking to pick off a hero who's alone, such as yourself.

Thats a pretty nice match, lets compare
Daedulus(5750) + ShadowBlade(3300) + Helm(1850) + PowerThreads(1450) = 12,350 gold
by 20 mins I usually have Crystalys + MoM + Ring + Shield = 5585 gold.
What the flying fuck indeed :suicide:, must watch that match. The drow player ive been looking for <3 ZSMJ
Trying to find pro players whose hero pickup include Drow Ranger, but sadly there are non from the current active players.
But it seems there is one, called ZSMJ, a Chinese farm overlord / best drow player/medusa player, who retired and now supposedly returning to the Dota 2 scene, hopefully for TI3. Also probably the reason why Drow is getting attention now from IceFrog.
His dotabuff profile if anyone's interested, playing 15 matches a day: http://dotabuff.com/players/113705693
here's a match with YYF and 430 on his team : 52434179
Sadly no drow pickup yet.
Holy shit I remember this guy!
It was always a real treat when someone casted his medusa games.
He is one of the best farmers that dota has ever had.
Dota is officially broken until Drow and Cent get nerfed.
Drow is powerful but was kind of a lack-luster before.
And Cent.. he's mighty powerful alright, but not unbeatable. Just the other day I beat Centaur as fucking Gondar, I built Blademail first (roflmao for Gondar) and Desolator for damage, Linken's to block single-target shit.
When our team got stampede stunned, I had activated my Blademail in anticipation of it, then Double-edge on our team but OH HEY WHAT Centaur is fucking dead.

Read wiki, read guides, play vs. bots, don't play Invoker.
[editline]beans[/editline]
On another note, tried Anti-Mage today. Mouse2: The Hero: The Novel: On Ice, and he's fun as all hell. Remind me to build force staff and blink dagger next time for 180% more fun.

Heroes like Lich and Skeleton King are good to practice basic concepts.
Also, there's guide called "Wecome to Dota, you suck", google it or look for it in the first post of the thread.

Pick a hero you like, play a couple of matches against bots upto medium level until you get good and comfortable before moving to pub matches.
So, after giving away about 4 keys to randoms, one of my friends finally decided to tell me he wants to get into DotA.
Anyone got a spare key they don't want/need?

Adding more to this: Read wiki for overall idea for every hero, then pick your favorite among them. (As in, which you are interested in most)
This page in particular sums up every hero in 2-3 sentences: http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Heroes
That page should be read trough by every starter guy.
So my friend 5ft away from me is doing Tidehunter level 1 jungle, and he's on par with both his and the enemy team's levels. Fucking wizardry.

I've got a spare key. I already used my first spare on another Steam friend, but I've got nobody to use my second spare on. I've got a group of 5+ common Steam friends who all play Dota together, so there's no need for anyone else, I guess. I don't really know any others who want to play Dota anyway, for some reason.

Do you have any experience to other similar games like LoL, and are you familiar with any of the heroes in DotA? Cause I played a couple of practise games against bots just to get the hang of the denying and shop system, but because I was familiar with all the heroes (Dotacinema, thank you) and I had played LoL previously, I played Rubick in my first real game and it went just fine.
So my tip would be to watch Dotacinema's hero previews. You get a good hang of what they are like. And play Lich. Lich is good as fuck.
although try not to play tooooo many games against bots. i have a friend who is like level 20 purely from bot games. they're nice for getting the basic mechanics down but real people are waaay different to play against
So the latest TF2 update means that you can now make your characters into zombies during Halloween.

How do you people find Anti-Mage so easy. :v: I always end up underfarmed.
Ok so I got gifted this and am completely new, any tips?
- Be quick about your mouse-hand movement.
- Bind your bag-slots comfortably. (For example; z,x,c,v,t,spacebar)
(Also learn to use Control-grouping, which means assigning your Hero, Cour and some other units you might have, for fast access. usually in 1,2,3,4,5..)
- Browse Dota2 wiki: http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Dota_2_Wiki (book-mark this on ur browser)
- Spectate high-skill Live games from the WATCH tab (might sound boring. might be boring to some people. but the page one games are quite high-skill, look for matches which are about to start, and just see what certain heroes do, and how fast certain heroes farm, right from the beginning of the game.)
- And play a lot. Heads-up here, you are going to learn how A Whole lot of different ability spells and inner game mechanics work, and how they work together, and so on.
(Some abilities are targeted into single units with your mouse [Magic Missile], some abilities just spontaneously happen when you push the spell without targeting anyone but damaging everyone around you [Scream of Pain])
Notably Heroes like Lich are good for beginners because you get to use/spam your skills a lot; Sacrificing creeps for Mana and using Frost Blast to Harass enemy heroes, is what your carry lane-partner will appreciate.)
In the end, Dota2 will prove to be the best game in the history of Mankind, which it is. So therefor play Dota2 and forget about LoL/HoN totally, and most other games too except like GTAV and HL3.
How do you people find Anti-Mage so easy. :v: I always end up underfarmed.
I wasn't as high-leveled as I could've been, but I wouldn't say I was underleveled. The Drow on our team kept taking a lot of the kills before I could get there through blinking, ended up a fair few levels higher than me. I was about on-par with the enemy team, though.
Can someone list the best solo heroes?
Talking about heroes who can use abilities to farm from a safe distance, while soaking up EXP and shit.
I know windrunner and beastmaster, what's some others?
Would magnus solo work? You buy a soul ring and use shockwave to farm/harass.
[editline]29th October 2012[/editline]
Also speaking of magnus, he's insanely underrated.
Hey guys I found a bow for a item.

Bounty Hunter is really easy to farm with. And yes Magnus is very underrated despite having one of the best initiates in the game.
Oh, and I already knew about bounty.
Him and beast are my favorite solo's so far.
Dire solo beast has an advantage over radiant solo beast. He can stack while in lane.
