Yes, but these aren't Spartans. None of them were wearing Mark V armor, and none of those were variants. They've gotta be ODSTs or another type of UNSC unit.
The Fall of Reach was before the first game, so they must have some sort of earlier version of the armor.
The helmet with the skull on it was a variant.
Doesn't look like it. Upon further review(and checking of the Halo Wiki), it would seem that you are correct that they are Spartan IIs, but no type that we've seen before.

I bet it's Grey squad.
All the suits are variants included in Halo 3 from what I noticed.
They're SPARTAN II's. The reason for their armor being as they haven't received their MJOLNIR armor yet.

Grey squad is in Cole Protocol. Not Fall of Reach, and Grey Squad are SPARTAN III's. Who of which the first generation were being trained when Reach was glassed.
Well that was crap.

Green squad then? I remember them being mentioned back in Ghosts of Onyx, either grey or green, but it was a squad of Spartan 2's who had been sent on a mission and vanished after.
They better actually bring something new to this instead of adding a new pistol and changing the shields and the health around a bit.

Ehhhh... Ghost's of Onyx, I'm pretty sure you're thinking of X-Ray squad, who went out of the military compound and vanished, because they disturbed the Sentinels.

It's not Gray squad, they're in deep cover in Covenant space. These guys must be some of the other Spartans who we never saw, the ones that kinda just hung around behind the scenes or were mentioned once or twice(IE Cassandra, etc).

No, I'm thinking of a Grey or Green squad. The missing members of the Spartan II's. It's not Contact Harvest, or Cole Protocol, though I think it was mentioned in First Strike or Fall of Reach too.

They're not missing. Some died on Reach, and some died on Onyx, and some are inside Onyx's core.
Hmm. Well, I swear there are still missing Spartans, and these might even be Green squad. I don't remember anyone supposedly being Russian or anything in the books, at least not in Johns squad or anyone elses.
That was awesome, no doubt. Wanted gameplay, but it's alleviated much confusion. Definitely a ODSTs, not SPARTANS. Anybody wanna guess that the FNG was Buck?
No. Those are Spartans. This game takes place before HALO, so the armor variants are going to be entirely different (they are earlier versions of what John uses). We haven't seen them before, because they became outdated during the Halo trilogy. But don't think they will be weaker like the ODST's were..they are still fully-trained Spartans.
There won't be any AI's though..I'm guessing this game will rely heavily the members of your squad. No lone-wolf stuff anymore. It would be so awesome to tackle an objective with 5 other Spartans who are fighting along side you, rather then having them all run off to their own objectives.
God, the trailer was so awesome though.. so much about it screamed badass. This game is going to be great.
Microsoft still owns the rights to Halo.
And Microsoft is still forcing them to milk out this series when Bungie probably wants to make a new IP.

You know nothing about the story of Halo, do you?
read the books and you'll know who the Spartans are. It's based off the books, not to sure though...
[editline]11:11PM[/editline]
FNG is probably Chief, he was solo but joined a squad in the books
[editline]11:12PM[/editline]
I could be wrong since I'm basing this off memory

I doubt this will be about the Cheif. Hopefully the rest of Blue team or green team.
I think it may actually be Blue team, but the FNG was silent and Chief is known to be silent.
Bungie can make the best trailers, but the execution of some games isn't (Halo Wars/ODST)
I still love Halo3 :D

Chief wouldn't be treated like an FNG. Everyone knew chief, and everyone knew he was always the leader of all the Spartans.

true, ignore everything I have said so far lol

Halo Wars wasn't them, and ODST was very good IMO.
The first trailer for ODST, where he crashed in New Mombasa and it showed him sneaking about, was so jizz-tastic. Especially the music too.
I hope Bungie peaks with this game, fuck.
What I want in this game is possibly parallel campaigns, one from the perspective of the Spartan team leading the ground defense and one from the team leading the space defense. That would be fucking awesome.
HOLY shit that was a whopping meh fest topped off with a big nothing special.
OMG I missed the vga's. This happens with everything I want to watch
OMG I missed the vga's. This happens with everything I want to watch
I almost missed it, I was in line at Wal-mart buying some new speakers when it started. luckily my roommate was recording it (I missed last year's)
They're putting this at video game awards?
"HOLY SHIT THAT TRAILER WAS AMAZING! I LOVE HALO! THAT WAS FUCKING AMAZING"
"Okay, and the final nomination, halo: ODST, cast your votes now"
what?
Why do they keep milking halo?
