God, I finally beat Havel without cheezing him for the first time. He could've two-shot me if he's fast enough, though
Game doesn't run too well. You guys got suggestions? I got an i5 2500, ATI 6770, and 4 GB of ram.
Try turning up everything for Dark Souls in ATI Catalyst. It improved performance when I did that with the Nvidia Control Panel.
Game doesn't run too well. You guys got suggestions? For more optimal performance this is some real digging so ill make instructions.
0. First Open up Catalyst Control Center>Performance and tick Enable Graphics Overdrive. 1. Open Presets and Add a preset, Name it Default and press Save, Make another one but name it Dark Souls, 2. Navigate to C:/Users/*accountname*/Appdata/Local/ATI/ACE/Profiles 3. You will see Default and Darksouls, Open Darksouls with notepad. 4. You will see these 3 "CoreClockTarget", "MemoryClockTarget" and "CoreVoltageTarget" under them you will see want_0,1,2 5. What darksouls does is run want_0 so copy the variables from want_1 and paste it in want_0 EG. want_0 28000 want_1 50000 With the change want_0 50000 want_1 50000 So pretty much copy want_1 and paste it into want_0 6. When you are done save and Reopen CCC and open presets, click darksouls than play the game. 7. When you are done press default to set everything back to normal.
After having played countless hours of Dark Souls, I have come to find out that Demon's Souls is incredibly easy. So far I've killed the boss in world 1-1, 2-1, and 3-1 without dying. I've also gone through most of the world in 4-1. I didn't fight the boss there as I only needed an item from the place. I came close to dying in a few places, but I'm doing pretty good so far. There's only two bosses I'm worried about right now though, the Firelurker and the Dragon God.

I'm playing it now and I think it's harder than Dark Souls by a long shot. You can't just run past everything just to get to a fog gate in most cases. You can essentially have infinite "estus" and mana replenishing items, though. Though even then it's kind of limited by max inventory weight which is absent in Dark Souls (thank god) The X-1 worlds are pretty easy and fun, except for 5-1 (maybe 4-1), but fuck that entire world. Bosses that annoy me the most are probably Maneater, False King, and Old Hero. I hate the Flamelurker and Armor Spider but they can be cheesed the fuck out of. The game is made a lot easier through with what is essentially Iron Flesh without a movement handicap (though magic and fire will still fuck you up per usual), and Second Chance which revives you to 50% hp if the flurry of attacks didn't do enough damage to kill you again, or fall off a cliff. Not to mention the blatant and easy to do item duplication. Upgrading is a complete pain in the ass and the game makes you grind for shit a lot more if you're really set on getting a specific type of gear. You'll also be forced to hunt specific Crystal Lizards for what are essentially "slabs" for a few (important) upgrade paths, which is very annoying. Also the game has no poise system so you'll get knocked around with full armor sets. And shields blow ass compared to Dark Souls in terms of "stability". Not to mention you'll have half (or 75% with the cling ring, I think) in soul form, and if you die in human form the world tendency will shift to black, with a completely black world making some enemies be able to completely one-shot you on NG+, not to mention the Black Phantoms that can seriously fuck you up. The general feel of the game is really "buoyant" or "bouncy" to me and is quite fast paced. It can be hard to read some enemies and their timing. Explanations being for people who haven't played or don't know much about Demon's Souls. I could talk about this game all day. :v:
Both Demon's and Dark Souls are "easy" (hard compared to most games, but definitely not as hard as people make them out to be). The rage part is that you have to trek through all the old enemies you might have killed 5 times already and waste time because of some cheap cunts with a bow (or a wheelskeleton), but I really wouldn't say it's hard (that's a grind, not hard). Even the very first time I played trough Dark Souls the worst was Ornstein and Smough, and I only died 10 times to them. Real HARD is Ninja Gaiden Black (on Master Ninja if you feel like smashing Xbox controllers, not exxagerating). Generally, I hope the next Souls game is much harder, but fairer. Make the enemies much harder (I mean come on, Black Knights can be pretty much murdered at any level with some patience and method), but don't make me walk for 5 minutes and kill 50 enemies again every time I die.
Also, I'm seeing tons of ghosts running around. I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen any summon signs or been invaded yet.
but don't make me walk for 5 minutes and kill 50 enemies again every time I die.
I'm curious as to what they could do to keep the game open world and have a faster way of reaching the boss gates without making the game feel less "open" or the point of it being that, redundant. I'm thinking in addition to making enemies drop upgrade materials, they should be placed in the world more, so grinding would be less necessary but it'd still take an amount of effort to get what you want; the way embers are placed being a good example. This would give you a good reason to still explore the world, and having a fast way to the boss gate wouldn't defeat any need to go back and explore.

Though even then it's kind of limited by max inventory weight which is absent in Dark Souls (thank god)
So far I haven't run into any weight problems. I've been running everything so far with the default Wizard's set and the witch's hat (I had to go through a lot of shit to get that)
The X-1 worlds are pretty easy and fun, except for 5-1 (maybe 4-1), but fuck that entire world.
I expected the boss of 3-1 to be stronger than she was. I mean, I know she's not a terribly difficult boss to kill, but she wasn't all that strong.
Bosses that annoy me the most are probably Maneater, False King, and Old Hero. I hate the Flamelurker and Armor Spider but they can be cheesed the fuck out of.
I died so much when I first fought the Flamelurker. I'm sure this time around I'll be much better, since I know how to spend my souls and everything.
The game is made a lot easier through with what is essentially Iron Flesh without a movement handicap (though magic and fire will still fuck you up per usual), and Second Chance which revives you to 50% hp if the flurry of attacks didn't do enough damage to kill you again, or fall off a cliff. I guess it would be useful for duplicating shards? I wouldn't say I've "grinded" most of my shards, as they kind of came to me naturally, but I was able to get my Estoc to +1 Crescent Estoc. I think it was crescent...It's a magical estoc that does magic damage and gives me some magic regen.
Also the game has no poise system so you'll get knocked around with full armor sets.
Yeah, not having any poise kind of sucks. BUT, the good thing about playing online is that you'll basically get an "average" of everyone's world. When I started playing again, all my worlds were one point away from being full white. All I had to do was kill the boss of the first worlds and now I have pure white in them.

Playing offline after intentionally making world tendency to black to get an item though will suck. That's going to be something to deal with once the game eventually gets shut down. Hard/Sharpstones you'll have to buy a good amount of if you don't stick with one weapon or are using some from the same path. Crescent is pretty friendly in terms of finding materials, the pure stone though can be an asscramp to get and it's generally easier to roll with a +4 with them because of this. (don't get me started on sharp weapons, oh my god)
[t]http://oi48.tinypic.com/5xs0y.jpg[/t] turns out I can now run the resolution fix this makes me a happy man
Been trying for a week to get a wired Xbox360 controller to work with this game. Only thing that functions is the home button.
Happened some time ago, forgot to upload.
i just plugged mine in and it works off the bat
Shit don't work on my computer. I've tried everything from PS2 to a Wiimote and it's just not having any of it. GFWL is fuckin' with me hard.
Really want to be a Blade of the Darkmoon but I also need that brass set [editline]1st September 2012[/editline] What to dooooo
My friend completed the game yesterday and I am heavily surprised how well he managed to beat the game.
You have to betray/kill their leader to get the Brass set, so you need to be in NG+ to use both.
I'm new to the DLC area. What's the best defense against those monsters that cast the dark magic at you? The description in the dark orb spell says it's physical, but it still hurts like fuck with decent physical defense
You have to betray/kill their leader to get the Brass set, so you need to be in NG+ to use both.
Well What else did I imply in my post
I assumed you were new sorry :v:
I'll just get a friend to drop it so I can enforce justice in the right attire
Is it best to start a new character for the DLC or to take an old one who is already pretty highlevel? What is also the recommended level for the DLC areas?
60ish I heard.
Open these ports Port forwarding must be enabled on the TCP port 80. Port forwarding must be enabled on the UDP and TCP port 3074. Port forwarding must be enabled on the UDP port 88 Port forwarding must be enabled on the UDP and TCP port 53 Port forwarding must be enabled on the TCP port 443 and then 1024-5000 for UDP this worked for me, I still have trouble summoning time to time but I think thats just the game, but I can be summoned, and invade all the time.
OK, just forwarded these ports, I'll see what happens. But... uh, excuse my technological illiteracy, but when you say UDP ports 1024-5000, do you mean enter the starting port as 1024 and the end port as 5000?
PC and the DLC announcement, with the PC port having an "Enhanced edition" thing with the DLC included will be my dream.

Dark Souls: You Died Edition
Funny how things turn out.
So I got this game yesterday and I don't think I'm doing too badly, despite not having played before for any real length of time. The Taurus Demon went from being really difficult to piss easy when you just do plunging attacks on it constantly.
At what soul level should I face Quelaag?
At what soul level should I face Quelaag?
I usually kill quelaag around / below 20 but that's just me

A few things I'd like to see in the next From game (assuming they keep to the DS formula, though a different game would be great too, though I know Otogi 3 is out of question): -More useful weapons/armour. You have a few useful ones, but a lot are trash, and that hampers variation a lot. For example for a lot of weapons don't have any real place, neither do a lot of upgrade paths, either because they plain suck or because it's so easy to get another weapon that is much better (and while this is always true in games, it's moreso in DS). -Make boss battles a bit more interesting (I mean apart from the "OHGODOHGOD NOT AT THE BONFIRE AGAIN PLEASE NO"). Dragon's Dogma was amazingly fun when you had to fight big enemies for example, they had weakpoints that could make them drop their weapon, fall to the ground and whatnot. -Fix the camera and lock on. Not the first time the lock on turns off while I'm backing and I turn around, exposing my ass to the arrow that is flying towards me. -Less unexplained stuff, or at least warn/hint that we're about to do something that might preclude us from a lot of things. Games nowadays have huge neon signs pointing out every single thing, and I hate that. Dark Souls is the opposite end, some things could really be explained or at least heavily hinted at. You know, so I don't have to wait for NG+ to get some stuff.
Funny how things turn out.
Jesus I remember that, when was that even?
