what SL is recommended for the new dlc?

IIRC these two sets will beat the fully upgraded eastern armor set in terms of defense. If you want to go through the game without worrying too much about upgrading armor or poise, the gold hemmed set with a wolf ring should carry you through NG just fine. Armor that's upgraded with twinkling titanite is my personal favorite thing to do when I want defense (for lightweight, poiseless defense, I'd recommend the crimson set), because at one point of the game it's really easy to get the titanite, and it'll allow you to have a fully upgraded set without having to grind or go into multiple NG+ cycles for the slabs to upgrade standard armor (which is a waste unless there's literally nothing else you'd rather use a slab on).

I alleviated Lautrec's suffering by kicking him off the cliff by the Fire Keeper. Would a Divine Longsword outperform Astora's Straight Sword? I've heard the Sunlight Straight sword is good, but I'm not far enough to have that yet. :( I like the moveset/speed of the longsword family so I'm trying to find a good one to keep using.

And if you want to do it legit, try to get rid of the mage first, it helps and then backstab the hell out of him with a hint of riposte if you know how to pull those off.

Never have killed friendly NPCs either.

I accidentally attacked Quelena of Izalith in Blighttown Swamp while I was fighting boulder ogres, I stayed a safe distance away and behind a concrete pillar and she ended up walking into the swamp to try and get a better view of me. Apparently she was in there long enough to get poisoned, walked back to where she spawned and just stared into the air until she died. :( Does this fuck something up big time?

Other then that she's not considerably important aside from a bit of background story to Izalith.
