It depends what kind of ascencion you like. You can upgrade weapons to Divine, Occult, Raw and many more. You just need to get the right Titanite shards and the embers which are scattered across Lordran. Check up the wiki, it has tons of information about that.
I forgot how hard this game is when you don't wreck shit to oblivion. :v: I'm running about with a +5 Claymore in the Depths. The Gaping Dragon has kicked my ass twice, even with Knight Solaire and another summon helping me. It's balls, I tell you.
Gaping Dragon is huge and slow as fuck though, how do you even get hit by it? And I'm not bragging about my dodging skills since you don't even have to dodge, you can just literally run around the huge room and his animations are so slow he will never be able to hit you. Just make sure to kill the channeler before you go through the fog door. [editline]6th March 2012[/editline]
I rolling with a +10 claymore at the minute and it says on the wiki that you can go to +15 regular. Which blacksmith allows you to do this & what ember do you need?
You need the Very Large Ember, found in a pretty tall building in New Londo after you've opened the floodgate.
Isn't lightning a better upgrade for the claymore due to shite scaling?
Is it? In all honesty I'm shit with stats in games like this so if that's a better upgrade then I'll go for it instead. Edit: Lightning +1 seems worse than before regular's +10
Isn't lightning a better upgrade for the claymore due to shite scaling?
Lightning is pretty much the best upgrade as far as PvP is concerned. It essentially doubles or otherwise significantly increases the damage a weapon does.

Edit: Lightning +1 seems worse than before regular's +10
I think the normal physical damage will be reduced but you gain some nifty lightning damage which gives you great advantages. There are a lot of enemies who are extremely vulnerable to lightning.
Feels good to give people who help you out something in return, like a ring or two or some shields. :v:
Isn't lightning a better upgrade for the claymore due to shite scaling?
It depends. Most people use the lightning claymore because they don't have to build any strength or dex, just enough to wield it. Then they can pump VIT or END. It has decent scaling, I think. C/C, but it doesn't change the scaling if you up to +15, just the base damage. The bonus to non enchanted weapons, however, is that you can use resin to add a shitload of damage plus an elemental effect, and you can also use Crystal Magic Weapon. If you DO make it +15 though, then it's a waste because there are better weapons to make +15 for buff purposes. Manserpent greatsword, Zweihander, Flamberg, just about anything. If I were you, I'd go with a +5 Lightning Claymore, keep it on hand in case you get invaded before you get to your end build or whatever. Plus it'll do some great damage to most bosses (although personally I suggest fire for bosses). I can post some popular builds if you want, or just link them and explain how they work. Should give you a fair idea of what you want and how you can achieve it.
Lightning is pretty much the best upgrade as far as PvP is concerned. It essentially doubles or otherwise significantly increases the damage a weapon does.
It's good for pvp because you'll be putting points in Vitality instead of dex/str or whatever the weapon would otherwise scale from. Also, you shouldn't upgrade Claymore to +15 as the scaling stays C/C, pretty terrible in my own opinion.
Shit. You guys made me want to start playing again... I think I'll make a massive glass cannon build. [editline]6th March 2012[/editline] I wonder if I can get a super cheap capture card for <$40...any ideas? I want to start recording my general shenanigans.
I would not recommend it, recording on consoles is a major pain in the ass and can be expensive.
I can spend like $50 on a card, that's not a big deal at all. The big problem is that I don't have a tower PC, so I can't use something that needs to be physically installed to the motherboard. Actually, I do have a tower. but I probably can't install things to it.
I can post some popular builds if you want, or just link them and explain how they work. Should give you a fair idea of what you want and how you can achieve it.
That'd be helpful! I think the reason I seen a drop when I put the lightning on was because most of my points have been pumped into Str & Dex. Which weapon would you recommend if I kept this up?

Which weapon would you recommend if I kept this up?
Well, don't forget to build vit and end too. Here's a list of popular builds and how your stats should be set up by level 120. It's a great list, I use it myself to start off builds. So, if you're pumping strength and dex, your best bets are either Pure Strength, or a BKGA build. Which is effective and fun, but you will get A LOT of hatemail for it, most likely. The important thing, though, is how you prefer to play. A lot of the time, my suggestion is to find a weapon that really fits the way you like to play. For me, it's the Darkblade and Channeler's Trident. Generally I can't use both of those on one build, of course. But the point is, neither of those are "recommended" weapons, but you can always make them fit your build one way or another, depending on how you like to play. That's the most important part, really. hell, you could make dual claws work if your eally wanted too, you'd just have to accept that you're at a disadvantage. But that usually makes the win more fun, so it's personal preference.
Actually, speaking of scaling, I've always wondered what's better for bows, Lightning, or Normal? I would ASSUME Normal since it has a MASSIVE Dex scaling, this is for my thief character, so I'd have claw which has A scaling and bow that has S scaling.
Actually, speaking of scaling, I've always wondered what's better for bows, Lightning, or Normal? Bows in general don't do huge damage, though. Usually they're for status effects (poison arrows) or chipping and being annoying (large arrows). The only time you enchant a bow, afaik, is for INT builds (in which case an Occult Black Bow of Pharis +5 does like 700 damage with Moonlight Arrows) or when you want to use the Avelyn, in which case you Lightning +5 it and use lightning arrows. Not that I recommend that, particularly.
(in which case an Occult Black Bow of Pharis +5 does like 700 damage with Moonlight Arrows)
Jesus, that's silly.
You mentioned occult and intel builds? Doesn't exactly match up. Thinking of it I never remembered to check out how much damage my pharis could do with the best arrows in the game. Also I find alot of these builds disagreeable. The first one you are better off if you have slightly less vitality and more endurance so you can ninja flip in smough's armor IMO. While the dex build using faith makes some sense this way it misses out on all the fun stealth stuff from intel. Why start an intel build with anything other then sorcerer? Seems to me like he has the most stat points total out of all classes because he has the least resistance while also being low level.
Jesus, that's silly.
You need your int to be like 50 for that, though. 45 is the usual INT cap unless you want to get White Dragon Breath, in which case you go to 48, but that's a waste. Only reason mine's at 45 is so my MLGS, Trident, and CSS all hit like a truck. Rest of my points are in Dex, Vit, and End. I do love the bow, though. Gives you so many options. I usually run one of these: TCC in left hand, trident in right hand Trident in left hand, MLGS in right hand Bow in left hand, MLGS in right hand Lots of ranged pokes, and a lot of punishment. People get angry when you pelt them with bows, but when they come in I roll away and smack them. It's fun. My paypal is $5 short of being able to buy a sweet capture card, so until I figure out how to remedy this problem, I won't be able to get one. :< [editline]6th March 2012[/editline]
You mentioned occult and intel builds? Doesn't exactly match up. Thinking of it I never remembered to check out how much damage my pharis could do with the best arrows in the game.
Arrow damage bonuses are a bit bugged atm, they only do full damage if the damage type on the bow and arrow stack. lightning bow + lightning arrow, etc. Magic bow + magic arrow = oh god it hurts. I'll take a picture of my stats and damage to give you the idea. 700 is only possible with a headshot (manually aimed), but I've hit 550-600 arrows regularly. [editline]6th March 2012[/editline] You know what, I apologize. It's not an Occult BBoP, it's a Magic BBoP. That's for Faith builds. I actually use a Magic Comp Bow +10 instead. BBoP only does crazy damage (S scaling) on a faith build. This doesn't hit for 550 like I said, but it hits damn hard.
Wouldn't enchanted be better? EDIT: woops realized just now it was composite not pharis bow. Also that seems like it would be jolly good fun with that 50% more damage rings in invasions. Also I'm terrible i just wrote that silly wall of text about a game i haven't played in a month while I have homework due tomorrow and its 11 PM ohoho.
The only difference between Enchanted and Magic is that the base stats change. Enchanted base stats are more physical than magic, Magic is more magic than physical. I figure if I'm using magic arrows and scaling off of INT, I might as well make my damage as much % magic as I can. If the damage source is split (i.e., say, 57 physical and 57 magic), the physical damage is reduced because of armor and the magic damage is simultaneously reduced by whatever magic resistance you have. So the more you split up the damage, the less damage is actually done. So I figure if I minimize physical damage and maximize magic damage, I'll do more damage in the long run. I have two midterms tomorrow, and I need to do 18 pages of homework and write two full pages, I've done neither ohoho. I love the trident, but the bow actually outdamages the trident. Velka's I don't use much, it's more of a "Well, I have the build for it, so...whatever." I do sometimes use it with the bow and Pharis' hat, though. :3 [editline]6th March 2012[/editline] I usually use a +15 Crest Shield for magic resistance. Don't need Grass Crest, have herbs.
Aye but herbs can run out on you. Also don't the effects stack?
Fuck the 4 Kings, on my first playthrough I beat them quite easily. I don't know how I managed that. But now I am getting my ass kicked so hard. Any advice? Besides is it possible to summon phantoms into the abyss?
Aye but herbs can run out on you. Also don't the effects stack?
The effects stack, yeah, but the 90+% magic resist is worth extra stamina regen. That's really not as vital as you think, it's more useful for 2h weapons. [editline]6th March 2012[/editline]
Fuck the 4 Kings, on my first playthrough I beat them quite easily. I don't know how I managed that. But now I am getting my ass kicked so hard. Any advice? Besides is it possible to summon phantoms into the abyss?
It is, but you don't really need to do it. Get yourself to roughly 56 poise, equip your best weapon, then just run up to them and hug them while you hit them. They'll maybe hit you with the hilt bit of the weapon, but it won't do much damage at all. usually you can take them down really quickly like this. Just be careful that they don't grab you or do the exploding move. Them grabbing you can be fixed just by healing, but the explosion can one shot you if you're not careful. Also, fire weapons are good. If you have those to a decent level (Quelaag's Furysword is great, for example), then use those. Not essential, though.
Actually if you just stay in front of them they won't use any of their special attacks and only bash you a few times but that attack makes barely any damage. It was really easy once I found that out.
I've always wanted to make an ultimate fighter build but I just don't have the follow-through. Just the idea of running around with a dragon bone fist and a lightning caestus with a ton of VIT and almost no armor sounds like fun but it's always annoying getting to that point as far as PvE goes.

I use Sunlight Blade on my Dragon Bone Fist. :v: No chest armor, baggy pants like a man. You punch them with the sun.
I hate players in PvP that simply charge you on first sight even if I am still fighting some other creatures, they should simply wait and at least make a gesture to show that the fight is about to begin. Those idiots only want humanity and souls.

They might be taking it out on the wrong people though. Heck I even dropped a Black Knight Sword and the guy just backstabbed me while I was doing it.
Exactly 8 hours and 42 minutes in and I'm at Anor Londo again. Finally got my Man Serpent Greatsword from Sen's Fortress after a bit of farming and threw it +9. I love the look of the weapon; so brutal. Now I just need to finding armor that matches with the sword.
