Longsword has an ideal moveset, with broad slashes and thrusting moves. Besides it scales well enough with dexterity and strength. The silver knight sword is also really good. The Balder Swag sword is also decent.
Scaling doesn't matter saying I won't be leveling though. But yea, what Foogooman said, I can't wield the longsword, so I'm using the battle axe.

I wouldn't recommend the battle axe. It's too slow, as an SL1 you need to be able to dodge quickly if an attack misses. Fire Axe for PVE and Reinforced club for bosses imo
I'm new to dark souls, I'm wondering what kind of armor and weapon I should use.
I'm playing as a wanderer, dexterity build and I'm fond of curved swords.
I have yet to find armor that is better than my starting gear, so have I missed anything? I have just defeated the boss of the depths.

Elite Knight armor is really good if you have the END to wear it. You can find it in the forest. Also if you Like curved Swords, You can upgrade a +10 one to Quelaag's roughly halfway though the game.

Have you seen those warriors from Lordran? They've got curved swords.
Curved. Swords.

My favorite strategy is to use different parts of different armor, trying to max out my defense but still be in the low weight range, so that I have maximum mobility. Get the Crimson Healer as soon as you enter in Blighttown, it has a lot of defense but is still really light. Also in Blighttown there is the Shadow Garb set, it is also pretty nifty. I also recommend the Elite Knight armor that can be found in the Darkroot Garden. Although the wanderer has a good starting set, get the Crimson Healer set in Blighttown, is one of my favorite.
I usually wear the head and torso part of the Crimson armor. Then the wanderer machettes for my hands and the heavy boots or elite knight leggings.

Well that is a damn shame. Anyway try to get the lightening upgrade for your sword as fast as possible. It doesn't scale, which is not in your interest anyway but has already massive base damage and additionally a lot of lightening damage.
You probably know this though :v:
It's really only boring for me if I'm on PC where usually it's connection failed galore. Hosting/gravelording on console is much more fun because then the multiplayer actually works. Dunno if people would disagree but even at SL 100 I still get failed to invade in all of the hot spots.
I have to agree. Network code for PC is just worst than ever it could be. Everything would be just great if fromsoft decided give Valve their game instead of microsoft. I'm SL32 right now and had only 2 spirits of vengeance one at forest and second one at blighttown(I wonder how many trouble he got). Also how does your gravelord sign chance in other worlds if you change location? Is it appears near bonfire?

It updates on your location (where you stand) evry ten secconds.
SL1 Biggy and Smalls are giving me the hardest time ever
The massive radius on that butt blast they have always manages to get me at some point, and it kills me in one shot
I honestly don't understand anything what you guys talk about, I only scratch the game knowledge you guys have. I plan to rebuy it for my xbox360 when the prepare to die edition is out again, I had 2 chars with about 5 hours of playtime that's all, confused to hell now.
I can't decide if I want to play as an archer or typical slow big sword guy.
Being just an archer isn't really something you can do in Dark Souls. The game isn't really designed for that type of play. It's possible but it's not something you'd want to do on your first play through.

I caught up with all of the jargon once I was half way through the game with my second character, and I spent a bunch of time just looking everything up on the wiki. Now I'm on my third and fourth character, one being a pure dex build (Which is pretty fun) and the other being an SL1 character who I plan to use for some interesting PVP once I beat the Four Kings
Generally I would suggest just looking for a good build on the internet and looking up what sort of gear would work the best around it. I'm not sure how well a pure archery build would work in the long run, so I would go more for the pure strength idea

Why not play a fast Dragonoid with a huge axe?

I remember when I first browsed this thread, long before I owned the game. It was all gibberish to me too. :v:
Good lord that feels like forever ago.
Think I'm going to give this build a try. http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?b=YmFuZGl0LDQ1LDEwLDQ1LDQwLDEzLDExLDgsMTAsMCwzNCw0NCw0Miw0NSwzLDIyLDE1Myw1MSwwLDExMyxub3JtYWwsbm9ybWFsLG5vcm1hbCxub3JtYWwsMCwzMCwwLDAsMCwwLDAsMCwwLDAsMCwwLDAsOSx3b29kZW4sd29vZGVuLHdvb2Rlbix3b29kZW4sMQ==
I'd like comments/criticism on it too if that's okay.
I remember back on my PS3 when I played a dragonoid using nothing but a shield and the dragon stones
the claw attack fucking owns
shame I'm never going to farm 30 dragon scales again on PC, that fucking took forever

If you don't feel like grinding for them you could use a trainer to give yourself infinite upgrading materials since scales fit into that category.
So I have to start over again because I lost my Pyromancer buff-heavy build (wasn't really that good).
Been thinking of going with one of those overpowered Dex+Power within+Darkmoon Blade+Washing Pole builds or something.
I already have 20 points of dex and I wonder if I should just continue in that direction.

That feeling was amazing :v: I never understood anything at the beginning. The purpose of Humanity was unknown to me, all the items were totally confusing and the online components far to complicated. Luckily the most players will give you good advice, besides there are loads of awesome guides and tutorials on youtube that help you out.
Is it me or are there a lot more enemies in the Duke's Archives? I don't remember there being more than two casters.
Also, the Crystal Golem hasn't dropped the broken pendant for me to access the DLC. Do I have to defeat Seath first, or am I bugged?
Also, the Crystal Golem hasn't dropped the broken pendant for me to access the DLC. Do I have to defeat Seath first, or am I bugged?
You have to rescue Dusk for it to drop the pendant.
Oh god me and Teh Zip File just had a hilarious fistfight in Anor Londo. I had 45 vitality, he didn't even get me down to half. :v:

[editline]7th October 2012[/editline]
And then me and Zip tore Pebbles & BamBam new assholes. 900-ish damage with Black Flame against Smough, oh lawdy.

Archers are very powerful. I just don't think people take full advantage of them. If you play as an archer, you really understand how great a bow really is.
Being able to pick off enemies in one shot at a distance is great.
I didn't find jekyll and hyde very hard assuming you kill simon before Garfunkel, huey becomes a fucking beast when he absorbs louie

If you learn to noscope then a bow is indeed incredibly powerful. It's just I don't know how to counter things that always have a shield up.

Wow, charcoal pine resin on demon great axe looks awesome.
Oh sure, it only adds like 50 damage, but it looks so cool.
