Any tips and info I should need as a newbie?
Damn, Dark Souls doesn't work on my laptop for some reason. Menus are intensely laggy and there's a large amount of what I would call 'tearing' on the logo screens and menus
odd

Don't rush into enemies like in regular rpg's. This game will not allow you to make mistakes. Every mistake can be punished with death. I would not recommend using magic at first playtrough. Do not pick master key as starting gift. It's also bandit class have that. Play game as it meant to be played. Pick warrior or knight. Check wiki for more info but you likely can spoil yourself about bosses and stuff.
make sure that when and if you invade someone if they bow at you that means they want you to backstab them before the bow ends. They will love you if you do.

Actually, the Thief starts with a key. But yeah, don't start as a thief. That is, unless you want pretty gimpy stats all around besides Dexterity.

Whoops my mistake. Russian translation can confuse me with original names sometimes. I don't think you can play relaying on endurance at first playtrough without knowing game's mechanics.
I presume I should get the fps and resolution fix?

What's wrong with using Master Key? If you're legitimately playing through the game blind, then there's no problem using it. I always pick it, since it gives the game a much more 'open' feel instead of keeping you on a more linear path.

I heard the 60 fps fix has issues like falling through floors or something

You can fall through floors if you slide down ladders, and even then it's a really small chance. I've fallen through the world once in 40 hours of play with the patch.

The reinforced club is a pretty good option if you find yourself having a tough time finding/deciding what weapon to use, it'll carry you through a good part of the game upgraded at +5, though its moveset is generally considered to be pretty bad.

Forgot to say most important thing. Play on xbox360/ps3 controller if you have one overwise download mousefix. And yeah download resolution fix but not fps one. For fps unlocker you have to play offline.

That'd explain why I've used the 60fps patch for 40 hours and been online the entire time.
Seriously, people keep saying that you can't be online while using it but I've been invading and summoning the days away. :v:

Are you kidding me? If you're playing it for first time you could skip gaping dragon and go to lower blighttown without having any trouble in upper one. Only if you know how to get to these places. Master key is meant for second time playing the game. Without it you're playing it how developers wanted you to do so.

Meh, I got used to 30 fps. 60 would be "HOLY SHIT THAT'S FAST".

That's exactly my point, though. First time players aren't going to know how to do that, and instead use the master key for things like fighting Havel at the end of the Burg, which IMO is a great challenge for early-game characters.
With a game like DaS you can't really say "the devs want you to play THIS way." If they really cared about that, they wouldn't have designed the game around exploration and open areas, not to mention putting the Master Key in the game in the first place.
In other words, Master Key isn't there as some kind of veteran player level-skip item, it's there to reward the brave.
The funny thing with the 60 fps fix is that I used to have 15 fps on the Gaping Dragon, but now I rock between 60-57.
whoa damn the Eastern Armor is awesome, how did I never find it before

I did that to someone last night. :v:
Got invaded right before I opened Sif's door...
I'd love to use the 60 fps fix but I'm not sure if I could possibly be banned from GFWL and Xbox Live since I use my Xbox Live gamer tag.

Nobody has been banned for anything in Dark Souls ever, up to and including blatant trainer use (just check the book of the guilty if you don't believe me).

oh
i'm on my first playthrough and i'm doing dex build w/ rapier

Actually that makes the game easier since you can poke enemies from behind a shield.

As long as you're able to get through the game and kill bosses, it's quite good. Dex builds are great, pretty much all of the weapons that you would want to use (fast with respectable damage) scale off of dexterity, even with some larger weapons like the claymore, you'll generally get more damage out of it from leveling up dexterity rather than strength.
If you can get your hands on a katana, like the Iaito in Blighttown, you'll probably be set. Though rapiers are terrific as well, especially when buffed.
If I buy the Master Key from the merchant underneath the Firelink aqueduct in round one, will it still be on my character for NG+?
Has anyone else had issues with DSFix?
I usually run ~15 FPS at any given moment with it off, but when I go into the file to unlock the FPS I go down to 5-10 frames. I've changed the resolution too, and it goes lower than that (my native resolution).
I really don't understand this, could it just be an issue with my computer? I have a very bad processor, so that could be the problem entirely.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Why would you want to unlock the framerate if you're not even hitting the 30fps it's capped at?

If you kill the undead merchant you get the uchigatana which scales well with dex and is pretty fantastic when it's upgraded. There's the "washing pole" too, which has a longer blade, but it's harder to get.
I thought those ghosts in New Londo would be trouble, but then I started two-handing Artorias' cursed greatsword. I don't have the Int or Faith to use it properly, but it cleaves them in half pretty handily.
Yeah, I think New Londo's gonna be pretty simple.

Yes

true, haven't abused that too much yet though, seems hella clutch and i think that'd mess me up when i switch to a different moveset

yeah, i want to get a katana pretty soon but i love how easy corridor fighting is with the rapier
plus i can abuse the shit out of the rapier's reach and the "kick" attack

was really tempted to kill the undead merchant for his katana, but i can't convince myself that i won't need him ever again so i don't want to kill him lol
Does anybody actually play this using a mouse and keyboard. I just got this game, and it is hard as fuck. These controls though are so fucking horrible that it just makes it extremely difficult to enjoy. Any ideas?
