Which Rapier? The regular Rapier has no Dex scaling from what I see, which, unless I'm missing something, would make it pretty bad for a Dex build.

I just recently got this game on PS3 and other than me getting my ass kicked multiple times i'm enjoying it. Is it supposed to have really bad framerate drops?, the game runs smoothly and then as soon as fire or another effect comes up the FPS just goes to shit.

New Londo and Blight town for example.
And I hate having to wade back through the same damn enemies every time I want to repair or level up.
welcome to dark souls motherfucker
Ricard's Rapier has a B scaling in Dexterity.
Actually at +15 it goes to A. Every other rapier except for Velka's has B at +15. [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline]
I'm on my first playthrough I just got the Taurus demon to less than 10% of its health and then it hits me and knocks me off the wall to my death. Honestly, this game doesn't feel fun-hard so far. It just feel like a sluggish combat system and high damage means if you fuck up more than once you die. It doesn't feel interesting enough to keep my playing, tbh. [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline] I heard good things about it and I'm kind of disappointed.
I thought the movement system and combat system was incredibly slow when I started playing, now I love it.
welcome to dark souls motherfucker
great but that's pretty boring artificial difficulty imo
I've had two fights in the arena, both of which are laggy as hell and one of them spammed black magic and magic that apparently hits me. Yeah, fuck that. I'll just continue to invade people than fight with honor.
great but that's pretty boring artificial difficulty imo
Block attacks, pay attention to stamina, don't position yourself to be knocked over an edge should you be knocked back, etc. It's not artificial difficulty, it just demands that you adapt.
did you read the post he quoted [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline] there's no adaptation involved in fighting the same set of enemies 20 times
In my opinion you shouldn't make special trips to bonfires just to level up/repair stuff. Weapons have enough durability that if you repair them when you happen to be at a bonfire you'll be fine, same goes for leveling up since it isn't the sole method of getting more powerful.
Walking around with greater than a level's worth of souls on me always feels like a liability.
Walking around with greater than a level's worth of souls on me always feels like a liability.
That's why enemies respawn. Anything that is lost isn't permanently lost, even if you can't get back to your stuff. In the end, you will lose tons of souls and soft humanity to deaths, that's just how the game is. When you go into a situation that is likely to kill you, by all means, spend them. Putting souls into weapon upgrades is probably a better long-term choice though. Leveling is important too, but it's secondary.
Been on Akinator and doing Dark Souls characters... he guessed Solaire, Darkmoon Knightess, Gwyn, Alvina... but not Rickert. :v:
Walking around with greater than a level's worth of souls on me always feels like a liability.
I used to worry about that stuff too when I started but the pay-off is usually way more than worth it you're gonna die a bunch and you're gonna drop your souls often it's just a fact of life when you're starting off
Walking around with greater than a level's worth of souls on me always feels like a liability.
Since you're starting the game, you're probably not carrying around that many souls to begin with. Don't worry that's chump change there. Anyways, eventually if you play enough you're just going to shrug off losing a bunch of souls and humanity.
Walking around with greater than a level's worth of souls on me always feels like a liability.
I lost around 129K souls when I fell off a ledge, and died before I got them back. I made that back within half an hour of progressing through the game, not farming. You'll learn through experience that the amount of souls you have really don't matter. Also, could I please get invaded by somebody that doesn't spam Dark Magics? Nearly beat somebody in a duel, then they just ran away, cast Pursuers, sprinted toward me and used that one spell that was meant to break blocks.
It's actually a fairly decent mechanic. It ensures that the player stays on their toes at all times but is lenient enough to allow you one fuckup before you lose your souls for good. But as others pointed out, once you get the feel of the game walking around with 300k souls on you is just everyday life. One helpful hint I can offer though is that if you drop your souls/humanity in a bossfight and want to retrieve the souls you dropped just enter the bossfight again and molest your bloodstain. Then wait for the boss to be distracted/on cooldown/far enough and homeward bone out of there. You generally want to always carry a bone on your person at all times.
punishing the player for fucking up is retarded the game needs to hold your hand the entire game so you dont die [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline] like seriously i fell off the cliff and died wtf????

Fortunately I learned to be careful 'round Merchants just after being Taurus. :v
i carry around 1million souls around me or so usually after pvping for a few hours, i think i lost 7 million once by getting distracted and walking off a ledge
Walking around with greater than a level's worth of souls on me always feels like a liability.
High risk/ high reward.

This pretty much sums it up.
I've decided on starting a Sorcerer as my second, taking-to-NG+-character. I've been looking around and it seems like everything I need to really get rolling is located in The Duke's Archives and the DLC content.
High risk/ high reward.
What's the reward of carrying around a lot of souls? Carrying around humanity would increase your item discovery and defense, but souls... you don't get anything. Carrying around more than a level's worth of souls is pointless unless you're a PvP character or you're just helping people or something.

I noticed a good amount of enemies late game have good magic defense, so with half of your melee weapon's damage being magic, and the other half being physical, you might not be hitting very hard. It may or may not pay off to have a decent lightning weapon or two, or ideally, something with high physical damage and lowish stat requirements (especially if it doesn't rely on scaling), like the Great Lord Greatsword or Obsidian Greatsword. If you're able to buff it, even better, because you'll be doing some ludicrous damage if your Int is high. The Moonlight Greatsword and butterfly horn are pretty outstanding in PvE and PvP alike, but be aware that some people use Great Magic Barrier which will basically make your weapons and spells useless, which is why I try to not use weapons that deal magic damage. tl;dr you could probably do some serious fucking up of shit with an Obsidan Greatsword and Crystal Magic Weapon, if it sounds like something you'd like to try.
Having lots of souls on you kind of implies you've progressed pretty far, so rather than traveling back then having to endure the same hardships that got you said souls, you can progress.
I have a question about the shields, so what is the advantage of the big tower shields over the normal ones. The bash seems pretty useless to me, not being able to parry is a big downside to. They have have higher defense but still, are they worth using?
What kind of character was the most fun for you to play? I chose Bandit, and I'm not sure I'm having fun!
