TBH I've never understood why people suggest this. On my first character my shield and armor allowed me to block/take a few hits and without them I just died with the slightest misstep.
On this character, I ended up killing him with Pyromancy. Worked wonders. I actually managed to stagger him a few times with Combustion, which I didn't even expect to be possible.

Also, I'm working towards a dex/faith build. Specifically: 45 Vit, 40 End, 40 Dex, 14 Str, 14 Att, and 30 Fai which is supposed to put me at SL 120. It's supposed to be a PvP build and that's why I started it, but I didn't realize I only had a few days of Gold left. I'm going to work for it anyways since I might renew later on.
Which stats should I be pumping up first? I've just been applying points as the mood strikes me thus far, but I'm thinking maybe I ought to fill up Vit, End, and Dex first and then work on Fai. Thoughts?
this will sound stupid but havel's AI is pretty retarded and if you keep moving to his right he will always miss you, which makes it incredibly easy to backstab him
i want to make an archery based character
anybody know a suitable build/proper stat placement
that's a hard one nomad, i'd dump points in dex and take the composite bow until you get the pharis bow
there's also a ring that reduces damage falloff behind the giant in anor londo which would be good for pve sniping
i'd take chaos blade + maybe target shield or silver knight shield
vit 40
end 40
str 16
dex 40
the other stats are up to you
focus mostly on dumping stats on dex first
rings are up to you again, darkwood grain/RoFaP maybe and not too sure with the armor
oh yeah that reminds me, why do people keep recommending the pharis bow? the stats don't seem to be as good as even the longbow. is it just because it's got more range?

I think it has godly scaling but dont take my word for it
[editline]13th March 2012[/editline]
It has s rank dex scaling but only e rank str. Only for super high dex users then, else other bows are better
OK... so following up on that, does forging a bow into an element or something apply elemental damage to its arrows? Because that would make scaling a bit pointless anyways.
no
as far as i know applying an element to a bow does nothing
which sucks
i think you can buy elemental arrows and bolts from merchants though

Black Bow of Pharis
Dragonhunter Great Bow

also at +15 a long bow has more damage, and has S rank Dex scaling. also D rank strength scaling. so it's better all around.
[editline]12th March 2012[/editline]
well its range is still shorter
but that's what the hawk ring is for so w/e
haha that greatbow arrow fakeout to backstab was sick
also i've been thinking i want to make a lightning weapon to complement the quelaag's furysword i'm planning on forging
should i go with a rapier or an iaito?
What should I turn my Shotel +10 into when I already have a Quelaag's Fury Sword and Lightning Uchigatana? If nothing of elements there is always +15
Sen's Fortress, finally managed to get out of the main building, on the last bridge to the bonfire, dashing across.
My finger slipped and hit B and I jumped off the bridge.
FuckfuckfuckfucklfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckFUCK!

Fighting the four-kings as a level four mage with two other players.
Attempt 1:Failed
Attempt 2:Failed
Attempt 3: Comple-No...I failed.

Invading gankers in a nutshell.

Also managed to beat new game+ 4 kings just now.

would be a bit redundant if he's already got a quelaag's furysword

Chaos then.
Chaos then.
...which still deals fire damage, and makes it no less redundant
I say +15 because buffable and scaling damage.

For me it was:
Attempt 1: Failed
Attempt 2: Failed
Attempt 3: Beaten in less than five minutes by walking up to them and two-hand swinging a black knight sword until they all died, without the luxury of Iron Flesh or even blocking. This is the attempt were I learned you had to keep the Abyss ring on during the boss fight.
So if I leave a Covenant via Oswald, will they still hate me or whatever? And can I then proceed to rejoin that Covenant in the same playthrough, or do I need to wait for the next? I joined the Forest Hunters' Covenant even though I don't have Live just because I wanted to buy the Uchigatana from Shiva, and I later want to join the Chaos Servants to save Solaire, and later the Sunbros for the Lightning Spear.
if you leave a covenant via oswald you will not gain any sin and you can rejoin the covenant at any time
however any levels gathered in that specific covenant will be lost so you will have to regain them
actually if you are for instance sunbro + 2 and leave via oswald, when rejoining you will be +1, however i don't know if this works with all covenants
