Yeah each attribute has much more of a significant effect than in Fallout 3
Strength
Carry more, don't get accuracy handicaps with heavier weapons, more POW when you punch, more health
Perception
Sequence (decides if you attack first), ranged combat distance modifiers, first aid, doctor, lock picking, traps, pilot (fallout tactics). Also allows new dialogue options and decides how far away enemies are from you in an encounter
Endurance
Health, poison resistance, rad resistance, passive healing rate and decides how many extra max hit points are added each level
Charisma
Modifies NPC speech reactions, barter prices, lets you recruit more people (FO2). Pretty useless considering the nature of Fallout 1 and 2.
Intelligence
Keep above 4 points or your character will be retarded, adds more skill points to be used per level, dialogue options and many skills
Agility
Recommended to be pretty high or you will be attacking like once while everyone attacks you 10 times each (agility lets you perform more moves while it is your turn), modifies all weapon skills, traps, lockpicking, stealing and also increases base armour value(?)
Luck
More necessary than in FO3: Increases chance when rolling dice (i.e. rolling for a critical hit), crit chance, gambling, chance for a positive encounter, chance for a special encounter, stops your weapon blowing up in your fucking face (jinxed trait)
Forgot to add this
Every single attribute listed here can change your dialogue options somewhere in the game
Yeah I know, but I was going for stats that closely mirrored me in real life. I am a very unlucky guy.
There are two people with ropes in Shady Sands. Go search out for them.
Also rage when a child gets stuck in the doorway.
I compulsively pick pocket everyone I meet, so I have a lot of ropes. I made my tag skills Sneak, Steal, and Lock pick (YES I KNOW THE CONVENTION...) and was fortunate enough to meet a caravan when I first stepped out of the Vault. Right out of the vault I had 300 caps, free leather armor, 5 Stimpacks, and enough ammo to destroy shady sands if I really wanted to.
MY adventure starts. First, Vault 15 for free leather jacket, then Radscorpion cave quest, the Junktown where something went wrong. I arrive at 05:00, so I wait for one hour so that they let me in. Oh shit, the guard shoots at me with his wepon, fuck this the town is hostile I kill everyone and get all of Killian's stuff. The Hub. I wander around until I get the Necropolis directions, go there, get the water chip (I didn't even have to say that I am a robot to Harry, he just called me a pretty girl and let me through :smug:), fixed the water pump, got my thanks, and then went back to the vault. Now to kill The Master yay.
Gear: Shotgun, indefinite ammo since I get more than I can use from enemies, Metal Armor, Ian.
It's in the only working computer
[editline]09:58PM[/editline]
You can also get it off the mutants in the sewers but it means they die
Uh nope they don't if you fix the water pump, although they will die in 40 days anyway to another super mutie raid
The Hub guard shooting you is a really stupid bug that I'm annoyed was actually left in the game. To avoid him becoming hostile, you have to enter The Hub in the DAY time and even leave at day time or he'll open up on you thinking you're some no good large rat or something
It's never happened to me before.
[editline]12:39PM[/editline]
Also it was Junktown

Woops I meant Junktown as well
So I bought this, but where can I download something that removes the time limit?

Check the gog.com forums, there is a mod there for anything and I think some of the people there actually make mods

Mmmmkay I'll do that. Thanks man.

I used to see this when I was a child in the videogame magazines around my house. I had never played the game though.
I always thought it was some kind of robot or a bunker where people would hide.
It took me this many years to see that it's a fucking helmet from the Brotherhood of Steel.
Bought the collection last night. I just hope I can get used to the combat.
i've gotten started now, i'm doing great, only fucked up one quest, and that's pretty good for a first run? i'm planning on doing all 51 quests cept for the negative karma ones since i won't be running fallout 1 anytime soon again. awesome game though enjoying every second.
for my fallout 2 run i'm gonna install restoration project and HD mod and try to do all 121 quests and the 30 restored quests from game data. i'll probrably be replaying this game sometime after Mass Effect , Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate trilogy. wish me luck.
Playing Fallout suddenly made me feel like playing Fallout 3 again. I'm not saying Fallout is bad or it's boring, it just got me interested in the universe again. It's too bad that FO3 still crashes every 6 minutes.
Well, I've played a while and I have to say it doesn't play as bad as I thought it did. I gave it another chance (I tried it a few months ago), and I have to say I'm enjoying it. Just got done searching through Vault 15, and got a hunting rifle off a random encounter in Junktown.
I kind of like how this game only gives the slightest hint of where to look for your next objective... otherwise it's up to you to explore and find the things you need on your own. Pretty cool.
Also what happens if I don't get the water chip in time? Does the game end or something?
Okay I'm playing through Fallout 1 instead of 2 now, but I have to ask, how do I make my character run everywhere he goes? I'm sick and tired of having the bastard just casually walk everywhere like he doesn't have a Vault to save.
[editline]04:34PM[/editline]
Also where do I get rope? I've tried Shady sands and Junktown but I can never seem to find rope in any of the shops.

esc > preferences > always run toggle
Buy a rope off the guard on the right of the main entrance in shady sands, use it to get to the second floor (underground) in vault 15, there is another rope in the locker on that floor. Use that rope to get to the last third floor. The chip isn't there but you need to discover that it isn't there.
ITT, people who don't know that double clicking on a spot, would make a character run.
God damn I'm pissed I waited for three days for this dumbshit in the vault to move away from the door and people act like I'm an asshole when I give him a well deserved pop in the mouth.
if someone can link me to a mod that adds windowed support please do so I searched and all the things I found on NMA didn't work or crashed my game
Everyone seems to complain about this game's combat. Well, not everyone, but quite a lot of people say the system is crap.
I kinda liked it.

I think it's good. People who say that generally don't like board games, what people have to understand is that Fallout was made in a time where board games were your next gen system and Fallout was awesome for emulating that (it's a huge spinoff of D&D).

My only problem with it is that you can't put a fast forward on another person's turn, and if you fighting in a town you basically have to wait for EVERYONE to move, and waiting for this is very tedious.

You can fast forward people's turns in the preferences, you can even choose if you want yours speeded up. Try the preferences AGAIN.
God. Fallout was made by intelligent people guys.
Alright is there anything in preferences that lets me walk through people?
Alright is there anything in preferences that lets me walk through people?
No but I'm sure there's something in your inventory that can get them out the way.
I usually just kill them and hope no one cares.
I usually just kill them and hope no one cares.
That only works in New Reno.
I have to get that bundle pack haha. I haven't heard many people talking about tactics, is it any good? I am hoping they kept the same system for it and everything. Inventory, and battle-wise.

Battles in Tactics is what I would describe as... weird.
I just can't get over the turn-based/real-time combination

Probably because people today aren't used to the turn-based system. I know I wasn't, and I'm still getting used to it all (although I've gotten decked out in power armor and several weapons now). We've all gotten spoiled on real time combat.
Now, if only I'd leveled my damn lockpick skill, perhaps I could maybe get into Mariposa. :bang:
