I feel like I am the only person that isn't working self centeredly
Everyone is building tonnes of little shanty houses and making the whole place hideous while I am helping with mining iron or foraging for food

Get used to it this is how every FP town goes. Eventually the newcomers get bored and the diehard stay.
I haven't made it to the camp yet so I don't know how the leadership is there.
Pvt. Ryan has a pretty good grasp of the game and so does Scribs.
I haven't played since 07 so things may have changed but I will guide people to the camp later tonight.

A) 1x1 houses look like ugly little sheds
B) 1x1 houses don't have enough rooms to relax in
C) everyone (apart from you) hate them

Hey I am with you. I'm Evilbits.
OK Guys I've decided to also build a 2x2 house, but I'll finish my 1x1 house and let it stay there, since it's just a few planks away from completion.
Then when it's done I'll store all the planks I need and nails and stuff, and it'll be easier for me to make a 2x2 house. Donnu where I should build it though.
I'm in! Getting the game atm.

you know you can level the ground before you build buildings right, use the shovel and examine the tile edges
