I always make a bunch of small chests and carry my stuff around. If they're too heavy, you can lock them and put them down, and noone can take your stuff.
Also I think we should upgade towns front gate to wooden pallisade or stone wall

I've read on the wiki that you can put these chests in fires and they'll break, and then you'll be able to take the items.
Large chests can be pushed and stuff, but can't be opened without the key.

Also, if you need carts, follow the arrow around to the other side of the house on the hill, to the other dock/pier thing, theirs a mine on the right side of the road, if the left is the ocean. There is like 30 carts in there.
