Stephen runs it on a PowerPC, and I run it on an Intel with OSX, are you running Safari or Firefox? -- also make sure you have an up-to-date version of Java.
Note: Epoch failure, that is one of the nerdiest jokes I have ever heard... but it's awesome.

Hey man, I use Ubuntu, I've installed all the latest Java packages from the synaptic manager and the login box comes up as a grey box with a red cross in the corner, are the synaptic packages outdated or has something else went wrong?

I know Cameron (one of the Devs) runs the game on Ubuntu, in Firefox... You might try that.
The scripting is easy after you get going with it, and beat the first two challenges. You may want to look at other people's code to learn the syntax and everything. It's not too much like C or C++ though, really.
And the help channel is very useful in learning.
My main gripe is the Java. The Java is bad.

Although it says you don't need any programming experiance to start playing, you kind of need it if you want to do anything. Is there any actual tutorials on the hackscript API thingy. Cause all the tutorial on the website is just a list of commands that don't mean much.

Lucky. I don't get the difference between petty cash and banked cash. But I just attacked someone on the same level as me and tried to empty his petty cash but he had nothing. Is it possible to empty bank cash?
