Why the tech of the Halo Universe is a step backward.
OP hasn't read extended fiction. Canonically, humans win ground engagements, aliens win space engagements. Space engagements trump ground engagements, for the same reason that if somebody is invading you by landing boats, ground victories are essentially meaningless (Assuming the adversary has virtually limitless materiel) unless you cut off the source of troops in a naval battle and enforce naval superiority.
On the subject of space, if you want camouflage (At least in the visible spectrum) there's no reason to paint ships anything other than black.
There's no real need to paint ships for camouflage since really damn hard to even see another ship from a distance in the first place, and by the time they're close enough to identify you'd probably be blasted by a couple dozen plasma bolts.
It would be like painting a missile or airplane blue just so it blends into the sky.
When you're a 7 foot wall of muscle that can dual wield flesh melting repeater plasma rifles, you don't really need camo.
Unless someone lightly punches you in the back.
"That apache would stand no chance against a wratih. I am sorry but coveneant armor would hold up to that. You have to remember that future human weapons that are mmuch stronger are being used. A fighter jets bullets would do virtually nothing to a seraphs sheilds. And yes camo masks thermal signatures because the sniper without zooming has infared vision and if you aim over someone in active camoe they don't appear. Explain how humanity would destroy a supercarrier. Explain please i'd love to know. Also scarabs would be able to survive so much against anything pretty much. Sheild would deflect those SAM shots. Everything you say is ridiculous it really is. All the coveneants technology would resist our modern day weapons. Remember that even wepons in the future that are stronger than our wepons today can barely destroy them. Can you imagine todays? Think before you post."
LOL U MAD?
Stronger? The whole point of this thread was pointing out how much weaker the weapons used the UNSC are.

Human ingenuity allows us to adapt.
And, yeah, they actually manage to make armies look decent and well organized, though Star Wars loses the point compared to Mass Effect thanks to blind stormtroopers
Actually Stormtroopers are very accurate, they just missed a lot for the purpose of the movie. Remember that Ben Kenobi said that only Stormtroopers are THAT accurate? (When they saw the Jawas) So even a Jedi as old and wise as Ben Kenobi thought they were accurate.
airplane blue just so it blends into the sky.
They did.
They did.
Seriously? Can I see your source? (Picture, article, ect) This sounds hilarious!
Plasma as AP wouldn't be too bad actually. It wouldn't need any penetration power at all as it would simply make the armor destroy itself.
It isn't really plasma anyway, it's some kind of forerunner magic.

what about ZOMBIE STORMTROOPERS
Agree'd.
In my opinion the halo univers has brillant stuff in it, but the whole thing is spoiled by the incoherency. It doesn't feel like it's a futuristic universe set 250 years later. Mass Effect or even Star Wars are way better at this because they actually create a whole universe or succeed extrapolating what's new at our time and imagine how these new things will be old and not used anymore or more or less changed throughout the years.
And, yeah, they actually manage to make armies look decent and well organized, though Star Wars loses the point compared to Mass Effect thanks to blind stormtroopers.
[editline]3rd January 2011[/editline]
They work as a whole. And by Whole, I mean a whole civilization, not just an individual.
It doesn't feel like a futuristic universe because it isn't supposed to be.
It's supposed to be the present 500 years from now.
This alone is brilliant in itself.

500 years is alot
look at 500 years ago and then look at today
or look at even 30 years ago and look today, because technology evolves just that fast
We all have our opinions.
[editline]3rd January 2011[/editline]
Yeah, you do. All you're doing is making yourself a better target.
Elites aren't really ranged warriors, they get up close and personal. The jackals and wraiths take care of picking shit off from a distance and pounding the enemy into dust.

Halo is filled with amazing future tech.

not really
bullets bounce off their shields(I think they did this in halo 1 or reach)

Yeah, I know that. That's even worse because that enables an enemy soldier to shoot at them as the Elite charges forward, trying to close the gap.

Then don't use bullets.

it's not that amazing
it's alittle more than today but we have most of the stuff they have like homing rockets, railguns,
it just looks cooler
This I guess, covenant on foot seem more than able to kick the shit out of any military on earth, but throw vehicles into that and things get a bit skewed.
Yeah I always wondered about this, considering how ridiculously OP the scorpion is, you'd think all the marines would have to do was deploy a tank batallion and win.
~100 years ago electricity was discovered.
You're saying 500 years into the future isn't futuristic?
Halo is filled with amazing future tech.
Yeah, they have lots of amazing tech, like a practically unarmored and completely revealing troop transport vehicle. (Warthog)

Exactly! Along that point, 11 years ago, we used FLOPPY DISKS and a Gigabyte was a lot of data. Look at the difference in computer graphics alone.

which was invincible until halo 2
:( rip warthog jumping
If anything the covie's are backward at Tech that can combat the flood.
Needlers are pretty much instant Kamikaze.
Practically unarmored what
If anything the covie's are backward at Tech that can combat the flood.

they could combat the flood
i mean they glassed that section earth when the flood ship came to earth and problem was solved like nothing happened
[editline]4th January 2011[/editline]
Practically unarmored what
there's not even doors
or even seatbelts for all of that bouncing they do
and the turret is wide open like a jeep from ww2
their tanks look like a construction vehicle with a cannon
which was invincible until halo 2

So who cares? That doesn't change the fact that if that design were used in real life, it'd be insanely easy to shoot the passengers.
Stronger? The whole point of this thread was pointing out how much weaker the weapons used the UNSC are.
He quoted a poster from the OP's thread in Bungie.net and called him mad.

yeah but you were INVINCIBLE
imagine an invincible jeep that wouldn't hurt u if an explosion happened under you
and you'd never fall out no matter how many flips you do in mid air or how fast you flip
and that your standing with no supports while it flys through mid air upside down with a good posture
He quoted a poster from the OP's thread in Bungie.net and called him mad.
ahhh.
Really..I found killing flood with covie weapons to be the longest and intense times in the world.
I mean compare how a halo 1 pistol vs a needler.
Most of the time using a needler = death
You're making no sense now.

lol assault rifle or pistol in halo 1 was easy mode for the flood

That's the point, it was because it was a video games, we're talking about how this would work and how well it would work in real life and it wouldn't work like that in real life.
