an intelligent discussion
Haha that's a good one.
We don't really know if the Combine have cloning, they just turned humans into super soldiers, not clones.
This is true, but I think it's implied that they have cloning; otherwise, how would they have set up the Overwatch forces so quickly and efficiently? [editline]9th January 2011[/editline]
Haha that's a good one.
Please elaborate.
This is true, but I think it's implied that they have cloning; otherwise, how would they have set up the Overwatch forces so quickly and efficiently?
Efficiency and a massive number of Citadels, combined with the probability of them keeping a few members of their invasion force on the planet until it could it get its bearings.
Efficiency and a massive number of Citadels, combined with the probability of them keeping a few members of their invasion force on the planet until it could it get its bearings.
Well, either way, you get the point. The Combine need only teleport a massive number of Citadels to whatever home planet they are invading, and they've pretty much won the war.
B) You add some countermeasures to the pods - good example would be 40k which also uses droppods but each of those pods has an onion structure, each layer filled with various countermeasures it sheds as it goes down making it near impossible to shoot them down.
No, 40K drop pods don't have an onion structure, you're thinking of the ones from the Starship Troopers Novel. 40k drop pods do go hella fast though, so much so that its fatal to a normal human.
I don't really care, OP. The game is fun to play and that's enough for me.

I remember a few cases where they just dropped themselves into the enemy or battlefield.

Although that might just be dreadclaws.
Say, do Spehss Marines use drop pods most of the time? I remember a few cases where they just dropped themselves into the enemy or battlefield.
I guess that's entirely possible for them jump from a thunderhawk from few hundred metres. But from the orbit.... Nope.
I come back to this thread after awhile and I see users talking about combine and 40k :psyduck:
Say, do Spehss Marines use drop pods most of the time? I remember a few cases where they just dropped themselves into the enemy or battlefield.
Space Marines use droppods all of the time.
Say, do Spehss Marines use drop pods most of the time? I remember a few cases where they just dropped themselves into the enemy or battlefield.
Depends entirely on the circumstance.
Drop pods have a layer that comes off in the atmosphere and basically acts as chaff. Although that might just be dreadclaws.
Nope Drop Pods don't, or haven't been described as doing in anything i read.
Read dark creed, although that's dreadclaws not traditional drop pods.
I come back to this thread after awhile and I see users talking about combine and 40k :psyduck:
A few pages ago it was "MASTER CHEEF WOULD SO OWN THE MAS EFECT UNVERS"
A few pages ago it was "MASTER CHEEF WOULD SO OWN THE MAS EFECT UNVERS"
I still think Master Chief is a stupid name.
Read dark creed, although that's dreadclaws not traditional drop pods.
Dreadclaws are an entirely different machine to drop pods, for a start they also go up too, drop pods don't. Dreadclaw =/= current imperial drop pod.
I still think Master Chief is a stupid name.
Yes it is, which is why it's his rank not his name.

Afaik, most people don't know his name, so just fall back to his rank, also they sometimes use it as a form of affection/respect, i.e simply calling him Chief. Technically his real name is John, 117 is his Spartan-II Designation
Though there's no denying that everyone refers to him as Master Chief despite him being called John-117 in the Halo games.
It's simply the title of that position: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Master_Chief_Petty_Officer_of_the_Navy
Though there's no denying that everyone refers to him as Master Chief despite him being called John-117 in the Halo games.
It is his Rank, the people who talk to him (with the exception of Cortana) are military and therefore call him by his rank since they do not know his name.
It's simply the title of that position: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Master_Chief_Petty_Officer_of_the_Navy
I realize that and I was referring to how I ALWAYS hear people say Master Chief in REAL LIFE and how I've NEVER heard anyone say John-117 while referring to him. Have you ever heard anyone say "Halo is a game where you play as a Spartan named John-117!"
Actually it's only externally of the games that we know his name. Most people may not even be aware that he has a name Besides, Master Chief is easier to say than John 117 or Master Chief John 117, so it makes sense that people call him that, plus it's more recognisable, when asking about John-117 most people would go "who" wheras if you say master chief, any one who has played the games knows who you mean.
+ john is such a lame name anyways and saying john117 sounds like some kid's online name it's lame cuz he has no last name
it's lame cuz he has no last name
Did anything canon say that?
i don't know but it wouldn't be mentioned anyways i remember something about them losing their last name or something john117 sounds lame
Did anything canon say that?
I think he actually has a last name, but when becoming a Spartan you are forced to give it up.
He had a last name of course but all the Spartan II`s were kidnapped as children and were only referred to by their first names from that point on. The people who trained them probably never even knew what their last names were.
Actually it's only externally of the games that we know his name. Most people may not even be aware that he has a name
Wrong. Watch the ending of Halo 3.
Covenant are not meant for the ground but they excel in numbers, also they are abnormally strong, if ANY of the species get close to you you are dead. Elites will break your neck, brutes will smash your skull and jackals and grunts tend to have a liking to human flesh. Also, the technology is dumbed down in the games, in lore, by the time it was shot you would not know what happened, the human assault rifle has the same effective range in lore as the sniper in the games. Basically, everything is dumbed down but the covenant tech is dumbed down just a bit more.
