Why the tech of the Halo Universe is a step backward.
So let's assume that in the future we don't use plasma and we use something like in Star Wars?
If not good ol' roasted lead.
Unrelated bit: I can imagine if there was any material kinetic space weaponry were made of, it would be depleted uranium. Ultra dense, no planet is (directly) irradiated in the process. I think it was in the Gulf that soldiers used depleted uranium-tipped bullets, which were ultra-effective at piercing armor, as well as irradiating the land and soldiers who used and were shot by them.
So we are on topic of Star Wars now?
It's a comparison of how they could possibly be used also. We also said Mass Effect, not just Star Wars.

"Armor Piercing Bullets" have a depleted uranium tip, as do anti-tank rounds.
Mass Effect actually pointed out the most likely path that heavy weapons will take - railguns, basically. Magnetically accelerated projectiles. Boom.
the regular assault rifles wouldn't be too useful if mass effect was real because their armor would stop a bunch of little pebbles hitting them(Shepard falling through space without a lot of holes or scars is proof) and walking through space enviroments would be more dangerous than the bullets
The thread's become speculation about future weapons tech - and I'm totally cool with that. It's interesting :)

Yeah, I like the idea of discussing ALL future weapons in video games, not just Halo.

And because the recoil would be horrendous without Element Zero, which is, as far as we know, completely fictional.
ITT: We discuss the future of mankind's weaponry based on videogames
Star Wars has very directed laser technology - theoretically impossible by today's science - that are meant to do pinpoint damage for the most part. In real-life, a blaster shot would literally go through walls and people without stopping.
Halo has more broader plasma technology used by the covenant - plausible but unrealistic - that travels slower but pretty much smacks a surface and spreads the burn from the impact, creating more violent damage and while not as precisely fatal (with the exception of specific weapons like the Needler Rifle in Reach), is even more excrutiatingly painful.
Damn, you are so original and witty! Where ever do you get your humor from?
what humor? its truth about a game
i think we will use lasers because we have laser beams already
or wait no because we'll go blind
"Armor Piercing Bullets" have a depleted uranium tip, as do anti-tank rounds.
Aye, you're right. It turns out the Gulf is just a specific example of uranium's effect on the personnel and environment involved.

Well the official explanation for the Blasters used in Star Wars sounds theoretically possible at the very least.

Of course, thats your opinion.
And its wrong, get a new one. We can like what we want, and dont need you to tell us whats good or not.

The lasers we use today are only industrial because they're WAY too large and require too much power to be used as an actual weapon. Industrial lasers would make amazingly powerful weapons for one good example: We use lasers to cut TANK ARMOR.

yeah but we need eye shielding to cut stuff
yeah but we need eye shielding to cut stuff
We have machines do all the cutting in modern factories. I know this because I saw how Soda Cans (also made by lasers) and the M-1 Abrams are assembled on TV.
And if you mean for a soldier, most combat takes place at long range.
yeah but we need eye shielding to cut stuff
Not too difficult to implement onto a soldier's uniform.

How It's Made?
yeah but they have shields
Grunts and Jackals (technically) don't, but they use plasma weaponry just as efficiently as Elites.
How It's Made?
I saw Soda Cans (specifically Coca-Cola) on How It's Made but I saw the Abrams being made on the Military Channel.

NOW YOU KNOW.
[sp]Yes, I know Bill Nye has nothing to do with How It's Made, I just felt it'd be appropriate.[/sp]

The only image I specifically remember from that show was a clip of him obsessively washing his hands.

Seems like you guys are still missing the fact that the plasma weapons in Halo have a solid core. Basically it's a bullet that creates an aura of plasma around itself.
On top of that, if you were wearing armour like the Halo 1 marines have, being shot through the armour would be devastating, it would spray thousands of molten globules of metal into your wound, a real nightmare for any physician to have to clean up. On top of that, if you couldn't get to medical attention in time, the chances of infection and necrosis in the wound are so much higher because of all the slag.

they're aliens i guess
but marines use it too but i think they have heat shielded clothing or something

Bollocks. I was going to mention that :(
Hey, at least you wouldn't bleed out.

He got killed by Spark. What an asshole.

Another reason why all the other games it looks more like modern kevlar and the like.
