That wasn't chaff, the pods were dropped partly during and shortly after an orbital bombardment. I'd double check it now but I can't find the book in my flat. Pretty sure they don't deploy chaff though (Also: Sidenote, New Plastic Grey Knights confirmed! Fuck yes)
Can't find my copy either. I'm pretty confident that chaff is not released though. I'll find my copy of the third book though.
I know I sound like a broken record, but seriously guys, if you want to see some amazing stuff, try reading the new Halo book. Greg Bear is a fantastic writer, the Forerunners are such badasses. Also, there were apparently 12 Halo rings. Don't know why there are only 7(6) now.
What's the name of the new Halo book? Has it been released? Does it continue the story after Halo 3?
Perhaps, but after seeing what the Halos can do, redundancy doesn't seem to be a necessity. The Halos weren't just tools of starvation for the Flood, they were actual superweapons. They killed all complex organic life, including Flood forms. I don't know, man. After reading what the Forerunners are capable of...it's kinda disturbing. Also, the Precursors were UGLY ASS MOTHER FUCKERS. Seriously. They were described as scorpion people.
I hate how they've done this idea of "it kills flood" its sort of retconned the idea that Halo doesnt kill the flood but its food as stated in Halo CE. Well I suppose any larger Flood forms may be affected just the same. Indeed, any biological life of sufficient biomass. However it's possible it doesn't get to the spores or something.
Halo: Cryptum And no its set like 100,000 years before.
Why can't they actually continue the story, instead of going on about stuff 100,000 years before the Halo timeline?
Because 100k years prior is where the interesting stuff happens.
Because 100k years prior is where the interesting stuff happens.
OH HAI THAR BMB! But in all honesty, I'm pretty sure most people care more about the actual Halo story arc than some useless lore from 100k years ago.
Most people haven't a clue. The "main" story is fairly uninteresting by itself. Especially as portrayed by the books, at least the ones I read anyway. That's really just "hoomans vs aleans lol". The interesting bits are when you dig a little deeper. Not OCD nitpick over every little detail of how Mjolnir works or the exact number of people present in X battle of whatever. Unfortunately I fear this new book is going to do that to the Forerunners now. Ah well, Halo is past it's prime now anyway. Expanded Universe shithole time starts now.
OH HAI THAR BMB! I only considered REAL Halo games canonical.
The Halo story arc ended with Halo 3, anything past or previous to that is "expanded universe" so you cant say they need more on the arc.
If I remember, Halo 3 ended with Chief's ship drifting towards an unknown planet, so if you ask me, the story is far from complete.
If I remember, Halo 3 ended with Chief's ship drifting towards an unknown planet, so if you ask me, the story is far from complete.
Your not getting me here. Your complaining about expanded universe, but making a sequel to a trilogy would be expanded universe because your expanding on something that initially finished. Halo: Reach, ODST and Halo wars are examples of expanded universe. 343 will directly continue the story. There'll be a Halo 4.
343 will directly continue the story. There'll be a Halo 4.
There will be a halo 4 for no other reason than making money. More insight on so-called "future-tech": Armor lock. When those marines and elites 'lock' their armor they are (supposedly) invincible. But what happens to all that momentum of that speeding warthog? Well there is the highly squishy lifeform inside that armor and the momentum goes all there. Sanghelie Slushie. Drink of kings.
That somehow make's me think your going to just negative on the halo side of things and root for the other side..Not saying that's bad or anything nearly every debate has it.
I'm sorry but I've said multiple times that I don't know too much about Halo but I DO try to be fair about the debates.
I lament the (earlier discussed) fact that whoever is controlling the franchise just likes to spam Spartans into the storyline. It's like every new game/book/comic/video has to have at least 3 new characters, which leaves us with like a thousand Spartans and no personality. What about civilians, and even Covenant? *Halo 1: "You are the last of your kind, built for combat, bred for war, etc." *Halo The Fall of Reach: The original graduating class of Spartans is introduced, with a set number of candidates that were trained and a set number that made it through augmentation. *Halo 2: In the Conversations of the Universe booklet that came with the limited edition, other Spartans were hinted to. There's a whole second story line that follows the Arbiter after he is made a pariah. *Halo Ghosts of Onyx: A crap ton of Spartan IIIs and minor Spartan-IIs are introduced, most of which die anyway. *Halo Wars: It's an RTS. You don't really get many chances for character development anywhere other than cutscenes. *Halo 3: A lot of people were annoyed with the short storyline; Arbiter's role was reduced to sidekick/NPC. *Halo Legends, Halo Waypoint, all the "new" expanded universe stuff: Clusterfuck of one-use Spartans are created for the purpose of like, a story or two. *Halo Reach: They tried, but not hard enough. In-game there was almost no character development, and one or two of the main characters was annoying enough that I thought "Good riddance" when they died. In my opinion, the most developed character was Jorge, the heavy quiet guy, and [sp]he was the first to fucking die.[/sp] I mean, it's great when they introduce normal (or even kind of normal) characters; ODST was about a squad of guys (albeit with the shitty romance subplot) and the Sadie's Story thing was interesting enough. The "franchise gods" just keep throwing us more Spartans because they're cool, essentially. Not to mention the Covenant. There was one point during ODST's preliminary planning stage (When it was only a campaign expansion in their heads) where they considered making it a story about Elites. Halo 2 is the only game where the Covenant are explored as anything other than a horde of genocidal aliens. The books do have more Covenant parts, but not nearly enough, I think. tl;dr: Halo needs more well-developed non-Spartan characters.
There will be a halo 4 for no other reason than making money.
Exactly. And that's what ruined the Modern Warfare series. CoD MW was actually okay, but now they just want to keep milking it for money.
Why can't they actually continue the story, instead of going on about stuff 100,000 years before the Halo timeline?
They are. Just not now. Also, fun fact. There were 12 Halo rings, and MENDICANT BIAS IS FUCKING RAMPANT AND IS KILLING EVERYBODY. [editline]13th January 2011[/editline]
Well I suppose any larger Flood forms may be affected just the same. Indeed, any biological life of sufficient biomass. However it's possible it doesn't get to the spores or something.
Seeing as the Flood is an odd mix of parasite and mutant, they assimilate the gene structure and quasi mutate the biological form of an infected subject. Essentially, they are as complex as the forms they assimilate. So in a sense, the Halos DO starve the flood by eradicating their food, as well as any advanced forms. Spores and infection forms/similar creatures are not killed, but do not reproduce and succumb to old age.
They are. Just not now. MENDICANT BIAS IS FUCKING RAMPANT AND IS KILLING EVERYBODY.
I thought this was known for a while.
There will be a halo 4 for no other reason than making money.
Yes, the cliffhanger has nothing to do with it. Halo is obviously a very monetary franchise but money isn't everything here.
I thought this was known for a while.
Yes, but when you read it from the eyes of a Forerunner... [sp]Basically, the main character is brought to the Forerunner capital as part of a trial to take down the old government, which jeopardized the Mantle by constructing the Halo array. Then, all of a sudden, five of the Halos go rogue, the main character's suit gets taken over by MB and shit's hitting the fan. The monitors(like 343GS) go offline, as do the Sentinels, and the Halos begin launching small fighters and support craft to take out the Forerunner fleet. Seven of the Halos escape to the Ark where they are locked down, the other five go off.[/sp]
Yes, the cliffhanger has nothing to do with it. Halo is obviously a very monetary franchise but money isn't everything here.
Actually it is. No matter how "different" a company is, it's still working for money and nothing else. Notice Valve suddenly added nanotrasactions to TF2 even though they said before that they don't like that type of thing. Money is money, and that's the only motivation they need.
People seem to fall for it, and buy pixels for 15$ a piece, so why would they not?
Exactly. A game company will pump out as many games as possible if they know a bunch of people will buy it no matter what. Quality? Who gives a shit about it when a series is popular? It being popular means there's no need for quality.
If I remember, Halo 3 ended with Chief's ship drifting towards an unknown planet, so if you ask me, the story is far from complete.
Legendary endings tend to be mysterious, Halo 1's legendary ending had Johnson and a elite hug each other before blowing up on the Ring.

Valve pumps out free updates, amazing deals, and cheap content for so long, and as soon as they add a feature to get them a little bit of extra money (they are a company after all), everyone gets all butthurt, and starts hating on Valve. Just shows how spoiled people are.

It's not like I don't understand, and wouldn't do the same. It just looks so "fuck this lets make something shitty 10 year olds will pay for because I have no idea what else to do anymore".
How about this: 3 Striders vs. One Scarab
To put it simply - the strider is a horrible horrible and once more horrible design that while looking dangerous is a spindly ball of doom that would die all too quickly to anything with a brain.
Your not getting me here. [editline]13th January 2011[/editline] Sorry you dont decide whats canon or not and refusing to accept something is called denial.
I'd argue that Reach, ODST and Wars are main cannon and in no form a part of the expanded universe. As all games from the official publisher would most likely count as cannon, with supporting content (books, toys, television, whatever else) counting as the expanded universe unless greenlighted by IP owner as main level cannon.
