This has got to be one of the smartest posts on the Bungie thread: "But your acting like were fighting them now. 500 years from now, our weapons suck. We dont even have big-ass bombs anymore. (i.e. JDAM, Hellfire, Sidewinder) Now we just have a big ass cannon on a big ass ship thats a big ass sitting target for the Covenants even bigger-ass ships. Now, instead of decently accurate assault rifles. (i.e. M4A1, L86, M14, G36), we have an "assault" rifle that cant engage a big-ass target over 20 feet away. Those SMG's we all love? GONE. The Big-ass Javelin? Now thats replaced with a 2 shot rocket launcher that can barely lock on to a big-ass Banshee over 200 feet away. Snipers? We have some of the best snipers possible. (i.e. Barret M82, L96A1 (Artic Warfare), PSG-1, M-21, M40A3) Gone. All replaced with a big-ass 4 round sniper that takes 2+ hits to take down a target. Even big-ass grenades are more useless...... big-ass"

If they worked like a real life weapon they'd be the most overpowered bullshit on the planet and break the game. Also the sniper rifle takes 1 hit on any un-sheilded opponent.

Anything that can glorify Half-Life and put down Halo is obviously intelligent and well made points.
There's no doubting the fact that we should have better fucking tech than the shit in Halo.
They do. Id love to have a 7.62 assault rifle thats pretty much recoiless. A .50 handgun that is actually useable. A semi automatic 14mm sniper rifle. A caseless 60 round submachine gun. The only thing you can complain about is the shotgun which is the only thing thats inferior to what we have now, being pump action and tube loaded. You cant predict the future, we may have something better in 500 years but we might not. I think its just stupid when people think that modern day weapons are better.
There's no doubting the fact that we should have better fucking tech than the shit in Halo.
Compare stylized gameplay elements with similarly stylized modern day weapons. Think what if modern day weapons appeared in a balanced way in a Halo game. This will represent the difference. And they must necessarily be even worse than the ones in Halo because those are newer and more powerful.
I skipped 20 pages, why are we talking about Half-Life now?
Anything that can glorify Half-Life and put down Halo is obviously intelligent and well made points.
It's all opinion. Personally I like both games, though I've played more half life. I don't see why people on here glorify half life and put down halo honestly, when both are in essence linear shooters. In fact halo is the game with the more robust multiplayer experience. That being said, if I had to pick between the two, I would pick half life because of mods.
Half-Life 2+ is a shallow, piss easy cardboard cutout carefully (and a lot of the time not so carefully) crafted to fool you. It's a great experience
either you're bipolar or i'm not getting the joke
Well Halo is slightly less linear, with big open levels like The Silent Cartographer. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
either you're bipolar or i'm not getting the joke
Because if it succeeds in fooling you then it is epic. And I'll let it. But it's still a cardboard cutout.

But the maw makes up for it. It would be amazing if half life had more levels like that. Highway 17 is probably the closest thing, considering how large and open it is, though it's still pretty linear.

I like Assault on the Control Room actually, dunno why everyone hated that. I feel it really helps the story by giving you the actual feeling of battle fatigue.
I like Assault on the Control Room actually, dunno why everyone hated that.
I like Assault on the Control Room actually, dunno why everyone hated that. And the music makes it all better.

All of the weapons in the game have had most of their stats tweaked, unrealistically, to provide balance within the game. I have no doubt that most of the weapons would be far more powerful in real life, let's take the sniper rifle for example. It fires 14.5mm tungsten sabot rounds from a 114mm case. Compared to a real life Barret m82a1, which fires a 12.7mm copper jacketed lead slug from a 99mm case. The only reason I can think of as to why a round as large as the 14.5x114mm would take 2 or more rounds to take something out is because of game balance. The Russian 14.5x114mm round was designed from the start as an anti-tank round. Whereas the .50BMG was designed primarily as an anti-aircraft round for shooting down lightly armoured airplanes. I could go on, but I think I've made my point clear.
Don't they put a big fat waypoint where you need to go? I'm pretty sure there's like arrows in the ground at least. The Forerunner architecture is pretty repetitive and I like they don't try to dilute that by adding random shit just for the sake of "breaking it up" or some other artists buzzword.
I too loved it, one of the only big battles you see between the marines and the covenant. And the music makes it all better.
Yeah, that part was good. The outdoor bits of the level were amazing, but I just got so sick of the indoor parts.

Apparently I'm smoking something you can't read. Try again.
Apparently I'm smoking something you can't read. Try again.
do you mean the SUPAH DUPAH ROCKIT LAWNCHAIR is better because it has two barrels along with almost no recoil and is quickly reloaded? Those are genetically modified super soldiers operating those weapons i'm pretty sure that it says they have something like 12 times the strength of a normal heavily muscled person in the books
Well, it looks like froztshock and CakeMaster have everything under control; I'll be back in a bit.
do you mean the SUPAH DUPAH ROCKIT LAWNCHAIR is better because it has two barrels along with almost no recoil and is quickly reloaded?
Erm, its a recoiless rifle of course it has no recoil, despite what games like COD think rocket launchers dont have much recoil.
Erm, its a recoiless rifle of course it has no recoil, despite what games like COD think rocket launchers dont have much recoil.
no it's a rocket launcher, it fires rockets, a recoiless rifle would be like The Carl Gustav that fires cannon shells.
no it's a rocket launcher, a recoiless rifle would be a handheld cannon like The Carl Gustav.
Oh shit it is isn't it. Never mind my bad. But my point still stands rocket launchers dont have much recoil, its not like its going to fly out your hand from shooting it.
Erm, its a recoiless rifle of course it has no recoil, despite what games like COD think rocket launchers dont have much recoil.
Since when do rocket launchers have recoil in CoD games? Never noticed any recoil before. Rocket Launchers DON'T have recoil in real life.
Since when do rocket launchers have recoil in CoD games? Never noticed any recoil before. Rocket Launchers DON'T have recoil in real life.
The RPG flings up when you shoot it, I think it does it even worse in battlefied bad company 2.
Highway 17 is probably the closest thing, considering how large and open it is, though it's still pretty linear.
Highway 17 was pretty fun. It was my favorite chapter. I wish it was longer though. I loved driving the car along that highway and having the option of stopping by the old towns and buildings. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
The RPG flings up when you shoot it, I think it does it even worse in battlefied bad company 2.
Well the RPG has absolutely no recoil in MW2. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] Page 35 is a lie!
This thread is amazing but goddamn you people post so fast I can't keep up!
