You either... SMACK, step backwards. SMACK, step backwards. Rinse repeat.
OR, you change the door to your fort so that there is only one block baddies can see you through, with one block below that you can attack through. Easy pickings then, as long as skeletons don't decide to shoot you through it.
Anyone have a list of what the cartographer ore colourcodes mean, and a good way to make a mark that can be seen from the normal map.
This is my guess. Black is coal, red is iron, green is gold, and blue is diamond. -nodnod-
Someone should make a 3d MC map visualizer, where you can see the whole map in 3d and look around in it and such.
Anyone have a livestream going?

I set mine up again. I'm not sure how long I will be on, though.

Unless for some reason you did not make a labyrinth underground you shouldn't have any reason for them

just make two different pictures then lay them over top eachother in gimp. Then make a new layer and mark where the diamonds are. Move the layers around so the one you made is on top the regular map. Thats what I do.

I took a slice out from where I had already dug a lot of tunnels and overlayed the ores map with only blue filtered. Now I can easily mine towards each diamond vein and cross them out in red when I get them.

Multiplying like crazy
Hmm.. When you render a picture using Cartographer, does 1 pixel = 1 block?
If so, then have found directions to the nearest Diamond vein. Brilliant.
whoa whoa whoa whats this about the cartographer? I know it does surface but how'd you get those ore pictures.

What would be the point? Why not just play Minecraft?

In the .bat files that you use to generate the picture, edit the -1 to -5 for ore, -4 for height map without water, -3 for normal height map, and -2 for normal map without water.
There's a new version of cartographer out, with a GUI.
But fuck I swear those ore maps are full of shit, as well as the old version's block counting.
They aren't. Its just finding the right vertical layer where the ore is.

Wait, let me get this straight, there still are no caves in Infdev?
No sir there are not.
But Notch plans on fixing that and water in one swoop.
After being lost for an hour, I finally found my way back to my base in infdev using cartographer and a giant sand arrow. :science:
