I don't get why people want mine carts, it's not like you are going to be hauling more than you can carry with 64 stone per inventory slot and you have like 40 slots

sloping all block corners would be pretty neat though so they connect like tiles in Wurm
I love how Notch really picked up his work in the last 3 days. Suddenly he updates his blog with everything worth mentioning now and it seems he's got plenty to come :D

I can see minecarts being used as faster transportation, but then why not just make them trains instead.
A mining cart would be great just for transport too.

yeah, for ONE direction and then you need to haul it back up the mine. A steam powered mine cart or train kind of platform would be really cool though, just a furnace on a cart

I just stumbled upon a farm last night, i heard lots of animal noises coming from a wall in my castle and broke it open to reveal about 30+ sheep and 20+ pigs all in a pit. So i made some high walls and cut out the mountains to make a rectangle farming place :D
I would post screenies but i can't take any, do you have to use Prt Sc?
I have no idea how he is going to implement doors, will they be 2x2 or will they be blocks that can be any shape and then a hinge?
When he updates the game for the new crafting (I'm guessing today?) will he also tell us how to craft them too. I don't feel like playing guessing games, I want my doors!

at night animals despawn and you are going to have a zombie farm instead

I'm assuming a 1x2 block but very thin, like the signs. Obviously on a hinge, but can't say for sure if it'll be instant swing or normal swing.

no what I meant was are there going to be hinge entities which attach between blocks and door blocks so that the user can customise the shape, size and opening direction of the door

I don't know if I like the idea of mine carts. I just don't see that much of a point to them. I guess if we did have them I would make amazingly elaborate mines with tons of carts that all go to one storage room. I'd actually like that a lot the more I think about it. It'd just have to be executed right. Make the entity be able to move by itself without you pushing or clicking them and have them able to hold a fairly large amount of storage. Then some kind of elevator lift so you can have them move around levels of your mine since we don't have slanted tiles.

That would be a very fitting way of adding electricity, and with it, better lighting. I'd also prefer it if it needed a very thin "decoration" called wires to transfer power; you could have lamps on the upper layer in a 1x2 tunnel, but you'd need a wire decoration on the ceiling.
fake edit: didn't Notch talk about adding a wiremod-like system of levers, doors and other machines? I feel that electricity would merge quite well with that, along with the upcoming door update.

I personally wouldn't want minecarts to be too resourceful and automatic. IF you could use it as an extra storage device and push it back to the other end of the track (like a movable double-chest), I'd love that. Anything else would feel like it's too easy.

Oh God yes, this would be so great.
So basically I was working on my new castle far far away from spawn and my current mission was to dig a tower so far down that it hit lava. Well I found the lava...and died. Now after one game day and half a game night I decided cartographer should help me so I made a land mark in hopes I can find my castle. If there were ladders I could have climbed out of that lava...
