Well fuck, my game is bugged

If I move past that red line, the game goes black, frozen. Maybe a glitch in the level generating algorithm but if I move past that line and stay there for more than 5 seconds, the game crashes.

Quite inconvenient because it's preventing me from building my castle any further. Maybe the lake is haunted.

I'm going on a quest to get to the other side of the mountain range. Perhaps if it loads from another angle, it will not crash. The journey will be long and perilous, but my castle depends on it. I'm bringing my best swords and armor, as well as a good supply of torches and dirt for makeshift tents. Wish me luck, facepunch.

Foogooman's log, night 1:
I made good progress today. I've been erecting large dirt pillars so that I can find my way home once my journey is complete. Here you see one of them, with a block facing the direction of the next pillar, and so on until I reach home. Out in the dark I can hear them, the skeletons, zombies, and other creatures of the night. I am safe in my mud hut.

Day 6: Tragedy strikes as I reach the back end of the dreaded mountain pass. Once again, all goes dark. I fear there may be no hope to circumvent this castle-denying glitch. I now venture head on into the heart of the accursed lands in hope that I can slay whatever evil lie there. I can only travel in short increments, as the crashing makes me need to refresh my browser to continue. There is a chance that I may become stuck in the event horizon of the loading event, never able to return.

Really hope you backed up your world save before attempting this...
Or that you don't get lost behind the event horizon...

Toss some dirt down there and you will never have to worry about food problems again (although it does grow really slowly).

It's infdev, there isn't an external save system. The game saves automatically every time it closes and you pick up where you last were.
Just got back from a quick errand, I now venture forth.
Back up the world folder in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves then?
Yeah, thanks, after I posted I started checking around in my documents, figured there would be a save folder..

I have reached the heart of the anomaly. Here, time is slowed down, you can only travel one block in the time it would normally take to travel 100. Progress is slow. A curious thing is beginning to happen. As I get closer to the center(at least, I think I am getting closer) the amount of time I get before crashing has begun to increase. This is a good sign.

Foogooman's log, day 7: Time is slowly returning to normal, I find that I can spend up to 10 seconds before everything goes dark. Am I getting closer to the center, or have I passed it? Is that why time is returning to normal? I can't be sure. I will continue to travel, staring at the ground and walking backward because the anomaly gets angry when you look at it.

Foogooman's log, day 7: For the first time in what seems like days, I am able to look up and observe my surroundings. The anomaly has turned me around, I am lost. I construct a dirt pillar to get my bearings. What is that? The terrain on that end appears to be empty. That is towards the anomaly from which I have apparently finally escaped. Dare I return?

I've just started a quest to find diamonds and other rare block types.. Are they usually underground?

I added an ore map mode for Cartograph so you can see where the ore is
like this

black = coal/red = iron/green = gold/blue = diamond
(kind of hard to see but if you use a program to see the separate colour channels it's easier)
