I added an ore map mode for Cartograph so you can see where the ore is
like this

black = coal/red = iron/green = gold/blue = diamond
(kind of hard to see but if you use a program to see the separate colour channels it's easier)
Can I have that?
Figured i should post an update on sky castle, it's used over 4000 blocks so far =)
I just bought minecraft for me and my friend.
What's the difference between infdev and indev, and how do you get to infdev?
http://www.minecraft.net/infdev/
Infdev means 'infinite' so the map is 'infinite' and the size of the map changes the further you venture out and can be as big as the size of your hard drive.

Me too friend.
By making that ore map mode on cartographer you basically changed the way people play infdev.
bought the game to see what all the hype was, seems like as it gets developed it could get pretty fun

ok ok i made the post before playing it jeez
If you fall into water, will you be safe no matter how far you fall from?
You need to have enough water, 5 blocks deep should be enough for any distance. 2 blocks doesn't cut it, I fell 20+ blocks down and 2 only made me lose 7 hearts.
If you fall into water, will you be safe no matter how far you fall from?
You should be, unless it's only few blocks deep.
fucking ninjas n shit i swear
..
If you fall into water, will you be safe no matter how far you fall from?
Not necessarily. If the water's only one or two blocks deep, you'll still die.
Also, I think that NBTForge would be more useful than Cartograph for finding Minerals, as you can scroll through the layers and such....
If you fall into water, will you be safe no matter how far you fall from?
Depends on the depth of the water, I think if the water is 4 squares deep, then yes, shallower than that and it depends on the height (top tip, hold space while you're falling into the water, makes you sink less).
Fuckin' ninjas, how do they work?

Automerge broken :C
ok I just got the game but I realised pretty quickly that I will definitely die at night, how do I make string and how do I survive the MASSIVE onslaught at night? I've tried making a pick and tunnelling into a cliff but it gets dark by the time i'm 4 tiles in

Press ESC, go to options, set the difficulty to peaceful.

1. You get string my killing spiders.
2. If you want your house to be in a cliff side, you'll need torches which you can get by mining coal and crafting it with a stick. Once you get your torches, right click to stick them to walls.
3. Don't leave your house until the sun if up if you can't fight, most of the monsters will be killed by the sunlight.
Also, craft some armor and a sword, it'll help you survive if you can't get home in time.
Here's the recipes for crafting.

I believe you mean coal, not oil.
I'm struggling to find my area with Cartograph. See, I built it in the side of a huge cliff face next to a big lake, so you'd think it'd be easy, but there are no ways to prove that any given area in the picture is my base.
When morning swings round again, I'll make a pillar or something...

Got it. See if you can find it - it's a small 4x4 stone structure with a few tentacle-like things coming off of it.
To celebrate, I held a Creeper party.

I didn't want to be rude, though, so I ended up inviting all of my best friends to this shindig.

Exactly, I just made the layer of the materials map in photoshop transparent.
