eh, no, not if you use the lava at the bottom of the map I think, i just did it with stone next to it to start with, but then i kept running into it and dying, so i put glass round it (i will find out for you, give me a minute)

Using the infdev bottom of the map lava, the pathway can be made from anything and then erased,to leave just a pillar of lava, which does not solidify.
EDIT EDIT:
to delete the lava, simply replace it with any block, then destroy the block, it only destroys that single block of lava though, so you can make floating blocks of lava, by deleting the blocks of lava round it:

as far as i know, all of this only works with the adminium (bottom of the map) lava on infdev.

You don't need to contain it at the current point in time, however you do need one wall running against the edge of the lava so you can place the sand over it, seeing as the lava appears right where you place the sand.
Journal Day #One
I have found a uninhabited cave, I set up my crafting materials there, it is not far from my old home. I need to find people, I am too lonely here, Everyone is just gone. I have been having nightmares alot, I found this notebook in the cave I feel less alone with it, aswell as some bones, I have picked up some dirt and put it in my cave, and by some magical power I do believe, animals seem to somehow spawn there, I have gotten most of my food this way. Pigs and sheep do this randomly, I have gotten wool from the sheep to use for clothing, it is very cold now. I will search for other magics here.

What are the min requirements of a tree? I am starting a tree farm(well trying to expand/improve it) I am currently at 3 tiles away from anything (like trees or walls) and 7 tiles high. Can I go smaller?
Journal Day #Two
I was searching for gravel at night, and I found it, but found it in the lake the family would go to every sunday, Gravel Lake. It gave me memories, I was chased by some sort of green creature, it had more than two legs. I made it back to my home and blocked everything up, I won't leave until tommorow, it is a good thing I made a trail of torches to the lake, It is just around the cliff from my cave, I will get as much gravel as possible, harvest my plants, and cut down my tree. Hopefully tonight will be safe.
Anyone else think there should be a second way to make a light source or something?
Because if you don't find coal by nightfall, you're pretty much screwed.

If I don't find coal by first nightfall, I normally dig a 4x4 hole and block it off and chill in there for the night.
Maybe I should buy this.

Nothing like being in a mine for an hour seeing only grey then going up to the surface and seeing all of the bright colours. So damn beautiful.

Its early in the morning, I haven't slept, I've had too many nightmares of what might happen if the bombs start again, I've occupied myself by building tunnels, I found some coal and iron. I also harvested the plants too early, mother would be disappointed in me. Its hard to breathe down in the tunnels, so I planted a tree there. I have a little sheep that comes around in my cave once in a while, I take his wool for armor.
I never knew I could do all these things. I feel like I am in a game, I.. I don't know what I'm thinking anymore, Its not the same without everyone. I think I need some sleep, I think thats it.. yeah that has to be it, I'll think of something nice before I sleep, like..like umm, I'll think of how the dinner was we had when everyone was... no, I have no time to think of stuff, I need to mine, atleast I feel like I do.

Anyway, I'm having a bitch of a time finding Diamond. I'm one tile above the lava at the lowest point in Infdev, and I just. Can't. Find any. And I've given up on making trees at this point, as cutting them down takes even a day.

2.5? I would say minecraft is full 3D. Infdev is infinite (hurhur) times better than survival too.
