It's an indev map editor, but it's also an infdev map viewer. You can scroll through each layer of the map, from top to bottom and it conviniently shows you the location of any minerals. It's helped me quite a bit, but I feel kind of guilty because it's (a sort of) cheating.

I just used NBT Forge to see if I was close to any diamond. Hoooo fuck am I off.

It's been a while but as an update to my game: First and foremost I explored to the north west of my first fortress looking for a spot to settle down again and build a castle. Secondly I found that spot and decided instead of building on land or in a cliff that I shall build it on top of water. I began construction a week ago but due to IRL shit I couldn't continue. Now after just over an hour this is my progress. Storage room containing 3 large storage chests. Tower reaching to the seabed and digging further down to serve as a mine shaft as well as a multi-level watch tower. I'm building it out as I go with the hopes that the structures shape will form to it's requirements rather than making one large square. So I make hallways leading to rooms rather than a giant box with separated rooms inside. I'm hoping it will help make the architecture look nicer and more unique as opposed to general building.

Anyone have any use for gold? It's weak and slow, what do you use it for?
