When we were collecting sheep and dying them one person just stood in the pen to keep them from despawning.

I'm beginning to lean towards random encounter, because like that at least it would make the bed a kind of 50/50 good/bad kind of thing. No one likes waking up to the sight of zombies.
I've only had a monster wake me up once. It was a Zombie on my server. I suspect it got in due to the giant hole in my walls from an earlier creeper explosion. I was trying to sleep so I can get back to work the next day. But being murdered in bed was not a part of that plan.

Two were skeletons that didn't hit me before I punched them to death.

Is anyone else having severe performance issues with this update? I can barely play Minecraft now.

A double door, or 1 door?

My client updated to 1.3_01. Anybody know of the fixes? (I am already aware of 1.3.)

As soon as you build a decent house, use a single door. Every time I have used double doors, I would get a mob every time I went to sleep. As soon as I switched to one door, my nightly surprises went away. Thats just my own experience. Test it out if you have the time and let me know how i worked for you.

I have made a couple different houses, and so far the ones that made a difference all came down to the door. But the one that works the best so far is a main chamber that leads outside, and then a room built onto the side of the main chamber with a single door leading to it.

There are 3 entrances to where I sleep, one involves going up a ladder and the other two have to sets of doors, and I have never been woken up

All the testing I've done so far is on the surface level. Exactly on the surface level.
