How long were you mining?I usually lose track of time when mining, a lot of people do :v:
You probably lost track of time and when you came out a night or more has passed, and a mob set on fire(hostile mobs) were burning because of the sun and they started the fire
Or it was just lava lakes

I was mining for like 5 minutes through some mountain and then I went over it to find coal (which I did) and then on my way back I was like oh shit is that tree on fire

You can get lava pools on the surface somtimes, it's kinda rare but nothing new.

it just randomly picks one
